2 About FACT FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology) is the UK s leading media arts centre, based in Liverpool. It is a space where people, art and technology meet. Since the opening of the award-winning building in 2003, FACT has welcomed nearly four million visitors, and every year over 300,000 people visit the three galleries, lab spaces, café, bar and four cinema screens. In 2016 FACT commissioned 18 new artworks, and presented 53 ambitious re-stagings of existing work. FACT s commissions and exhibitions also toured across the UK and to Australia, South Korea, Spain and France, resulting in 486,000 visits. Over the years, FACT has worked with internationally acclaimed artists, including Pipilotti Rist, Krzysztof Wodiczko, Weerasethakul Apichatpong, and Wu Tsang. FACT s critically acclaimed Learning Programme experiments with the notion of the art centre as an expanded classroom for lifelong learning, a space for critical dialogues, artistic experiences and intergenerational encounters. In 2018, the exhibitions and public programme are an invitation to play with FACT, celebrating a decade since Liverpool was European Capital of Culture. This feeds into FACT s mission to originate, articulate and present a programme of excellent innovative art through three keys strands: Exhibition & Public Programme, Learning, and Research & Innovation. About Invisible Flock Invisible Flock is an interactive arts studio based in Leeds, making groundbreaking innovative work to be experienced and participated in by thousands all over the world. Described in the Guardian as real innovators, their multidisciplinary, technologically driven practice seeks to redefine and disrupt traditional perceptions and models of global art practice. Drawing directly from the world around us they aim to create art and foster relevant and contemporary practices that have a long lasting transformative effect, having built GPS powered AR art games, transformed discarded beach plastic into 3D printed artworks, and created large public sound installations as well as pioneering digital pieces that exist out at sea. Invisible Flock has an irrefutable reputation for artistic excellence and innovation, both nationally and internationally saw the organisation developing and showcasing work in Kazakhstan, Kenya, Indonesia, India and all over the UK, including a brand new commission for the Hull City of Culture opening ceremony, experienced by 342,000 people and reviewed as overwhelming and extraordinary by The Times. Invisible Flock presents work for galleries such as the V&A, MIMA and Watermans, festivals such as UK-Indonesia Festival, The Tbilisi International Festival, Brighton Festival, L Entorse
3 Lille, Lagos Theatre Festival and Unbox India as well as collaborating with British Council, Jerwood Charitable Foundation and Wellcome Trust. About Rewire Rewire is a meditation on water and the future. It is an epic, sonic, spatial, elemental work made for the iconic Toxteth Reservoir in Liverpool, built in 1845 to hold and supply two million gallons of water to the people of Liverpool. Within the environment created at the reservoir, technology and magic will become indistinguishable. Employing bleeding edge technologies to conjure kinetic and digital landscapes, the work will exist as an investigation of the human body in space and nature. Rewire will explore, and bring to life a global world of water from those living at the forefront of climate change, the monsoons of India to the disappearing islands of Indonesia. Rewire will directly invite large audiences to experiment, play and imagine the future of water both here in Liverpool and around the world. Rewire is part of Liverpool 2018, a year long programme of cultural projects to mark the tenth anniversary of Liverpool being European Capital of Culture, welcoming international artists to collaborate in its creation. Rewire is a partnership between FACT, Culture Liverpool, Invisible Flock and Dingle An engagement programme alongside the making of the work will run from April 2018 inviting the communities surrounding the Reservoir to become an integral part of the project. Rewire will run from 19 September through to 7 October 2018.
4 Purpose of Post The main purpose of the post will be to manage and coordinate the project, ensuring the successful development and delivery of production and installation processes, together with the engagement programme. To this end, the Project Manager will keep an overview of the project at all times, and will work closely with FACT and Invisible Flock, in addition to the twenty plus collaborators involved in the project. As part of the production responsibilities, the Project Manager will manage all operational processes, including developing the visitor experience, planning and budgeting for the installation and deinstallation, all public event permission and health and safety requirements, as well as invigilation, mediation with the public, and documentation. In this context, the Project Manager will work closely with the Technical & Site Production Manager who will take responsibility for the overall technical production of the work, as well as the onsite delivery, technical safety and maintenance of the installation. The Project Manager will also lead on the programme of residencies, liaising with the appointed artists to coordinate their stay as well as the development of their proposals leading up to, and throughout the duration of the project. He/she will be responsible for the production of a large scale participatory event during the summer months, leading up to the launch of the project. This event will reach out into the community, asking the residents of the Dingle to contribute to the final artwork through sound-making workshops. The Project Manager will collaborate with the Fundraising and Development and the Marketing and Communications teams to support them in developing their Project Plans and meeting their goals and targets. Finally, the Project Manager will undertake all project management duties, ensuring compliance with all funding agreements and applicable policy and procedures. This will also include: overseeing and monitoring the budget, alongside FACT and Invisible Flock, ensuring that timelines are followed and deadlines are met, calling and coordinating partner meetings, and producing reports for stakeholders as required.
