3 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1. GOAL The goal of this study is to provide an independent calculation of the simplified carbon footprint of Innotech Solar EcoPlus and EcoFocus modules (230, 240 and 250 Wp) METHODOLOGY The methodology used is the simplified carbon footprint method according to the French tender [1]. Please note that these results cannot be compared with full carbon footprint studies! 2. DATA INNOTECH SOLAR 2.1. SOLAR CELLS The solar cells used by Innotech Solar are usually discarded by cell manufacturers. Innotech Solar is performing cell upgrading of these cells in Germany. Allocation of the impacts to the various cells produced in the factory was done in proportion to the economic value of the cells ( Allocation procedure [2]). The economic value - the relation between the normal price of a cell and the price of a ITS cell - is for EcoPlus and for EcoFocus. The price allocation factors are shown in Table 1. The solar cell prices are provided by Innotech Solar. For poly-silicon, wafers and standard solar cell production the CEDij values from table 2 of the French call [1] were taken and multiplied by the price allocation factor. Table 1 Price allocation factors The energy needed for upgrading was estimated by the manufacturer (Innotech Solar) [3] and is 0.45 MJ/cell ECOPLUS MODULES Innotech Solar produces the EcoPlus modules in Sweden: Size: 1665 mm x 991 mm Weight: 22 kg Composition: 60 cells of 156 mm x 156 mm x 180 micron multi 3.2 mm tempered glass with anti-reflection coating from Sunarc Technology 0.6 mm EVA mm backsheet: Coveme dymat PYE, 50 micron PET/125 micron PET/100 micron primer, is SmartGreenScans Innotech Solar Simplified Carbon Footprint 3

4 without fluoropolymers (360 g/m2: Coveme product data sheet July 2012) 3.14 kg Aluminum frame In the simplified carbon calculation losses of components during production are included, for example cutting loss of EVA (1%) and cutting loss of backsheet (4%). The energy for the production of the primer in the backsheet was estimated by using the proxy Chemicals organic, at plant/glo from ecoinvent 2.2 [4] and the CED v1.08 method in Simapro software. The composition of the primer is unknown. The French tender [1] excludes the frame ECOFOCUS MODULES The EcoFocus modules are the same as the EcoPlus modules (technical, electrical, performance, same components) with the only difference that the solar cells are optical bad looking and therefore the cells are cheaper. 4 Innotech Solar Simplified Carbon Footprint SmartGreenScans
