1 Page 1 of 15 Alumni E-Newsletter October 2014 LIVING AND LEARNING CENTER UPDATE Produced by University Relations The Virginia Union University Board of Trustees announced a gift of $2.1 million, the largest one-time cash gift from a single living donor in the university's history. The Board also approve the anonymous donor's wishes that the bulk of the money be used to pay the remaining debt o the Learning Center, the conference and seminar facility that anchors the university's new Livi and Learning Center. According to the donor's wishes, the Living and Learning Center will be named for Virginia Union President Dr. Claude G. Perkins. "The naming of the Center after Dr. Perkins is appropriate because of his transformative
2 Page 2 of 15 leadership," said Dr. W. Franklyn Richardson, Chairman of the Virginia Union University Board of Trustees. "It's the work of Dr. Perkins these past five years that makes it possible for someone to visit this campus and be inspired to give a gift of this magnitude." "We cannot express enough our gratitude to this very generous donor," Dr. Perkins added. The $100,000 that will remain after the Learning Center $2 million debt is paid will be used to establish an endowment to support the Virginia Union Art Museum Galleries. The endowment will be named "The FUNd at VUU." >>View photos of the Living and Learning Center...
