1 2018 OHIO UROLOGICAL SOCIETY ANNUAL MEETING RESIDENT PACKAGE OFFERED Earn Up To 11 CME Hours OUS 2018 ANNUAL SPRING MEETING CLEVELAND April 13-14, 2018 Westin Cleveland Downtown 777 St. Clair Avenue NE
2 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Happy New Year! It has been an honor to serve as your president over the last year. We truly have a great organization. I wanted to extend an invitation to attend, what I feel, will be another great meeting. We are returning to the Westin in Cleveland, April 13-14th, Just as the great city of Cleveland has moved in the future, so has our organization. Over the years, we have tried to streamline our annual meeting to exceed the current day needs of continuing education. We realize that online CME's are an effective way to remain current. We have made it our goal to provide a meeting of value for all. The Friday night venue has taken on an energy itself. This year, it will be enhanced with a partnership with the AUA foundation. The first of its type where a state organization partners with a national. We are going to have a meet and greet with the public at the Welcome Reception from 5:00-6:00p.m. with some selected regional urologists. This will be advertized to the public to come and learn "what we do and how we do it". We will also continue, this year will continue with the mission statement of bridging the gap between physicians and politicians. This has been a great success in years past with excellent political guests. This will be from 6:00-7:00p.m., and we will welcome state auditor, David Yost. He will be running for Attorney General in the upcoming state election. There will be dinner and drinks in the vendor area to follow. The residents will have their presentations that evening. As one vendor said last year the planning was "very thoughtful". The Saturday plenary will include live robotic surgery with Dr. Adonis Hijaz, University Hospitals, performing robotic assisted abdominal sacral colpopexy. We have opened this up to the local PCP's, internist, and physician extenders for free CME's. The hope is to grow the meeting attendance and help referrals to the local urologist where ever the meeting should reside. We will be advertising in local newspapers with funds provided by the AUA Foundation. We have two great national speakers on the docket, Dr. Allen Morey, UT Southwestern, giving a trauma lecture and Dr. Brad Leibovich, Mayo Clinic, on current day trends with salvage nephrectomy. I recommend everybody to stay for the entire meeting. We are bringing in Tom Ferkovic RPH, to speak on current day trends in practice management and coding. The residents will get the opportunity to present an interesting and bizarre case after a chief resident bowl. I encourage you to get involved! If you are solo practice, large urology group, or academic, our meeting helps sustain the urological community in our great state. I hope to see you in Cleveland. Mark Memo, DO, FACS OUS President Youngstown, Ohio TREASURER S REPORT Jeffrey S. Cerone, MD, FACS OUS Treasurer Canton, OH Our organization has a total of $40, in our deposit accounts as of December 31, Our investment holding in our UBS account has $274, similar to We encourage everyone to pay their 2018 annual dues before the Annual Meeting (notices have been sent). It is our goal to make 2018 our best meeting ever. Please invite your peers to join OUS and participate in our annual meeting! SECRETARY S REPORT Dear Colleagues and Friends, I am very excited to share with you the wonderful program planned for this year s Ohio Urological Society (OUS) Annual Spring Meeting to be held April 13-14, 2018 in Cleveland. The OUS board has organized what promises to be one of our best meetings with a diversity of topics and speakers sure to benefit everyone, no matter their practice focus. Our program will begin on Friday evening with a Welcome Reception and an opportunity to mingle with colleagues and old friends from around the state. We will have the opportunity to hear from, and interact with, our political guest, Mr. David Yost, Ohio Auditor of State. This is sure to be a highlight of this year s program. As in the past, we will host our Moderated Poster Session on Friday evening; this is a chance to hear our residents from around the state present the latest research that they are working on. Our Saturday morning program will begin with resident research presentations highlighting the best projects from our urology training institutions in the State. We are pleased to once again offer a live surgical broadcast featuring a Robotic Sacrocolopexy performed by Adonis Hijaz from Case Western University, who is an accomplished expert in Female Pelvic Medicine. There will be opportunity for questions and real-time interaction between the audience in the meeting room and urological team in the OR. Our next session, New Technologies Forum, has been designed to provide you with some of the latest technical advances available to urologists that will improve the quality of care of our urologic patients. Featured speakers for this year are Drs. Khaled Fareed (REZUM), Dan Ricchiuti (UROLIFT), Sri Sivalingam (MOSES P120) and Herb Riemenschneider (HIFU). Dr. Allen Morey, who is a world renowned reconstructive urologist from UT Southwestern Medical Center University, TX, will then present a GU Trauma Update for the Practicing Urologist. This will be followed by a case-based panel discussion on Reconstructive Urology and GU trauma. We are pleased to have with us this year urologic thought leader, Dr. Bradley Leibovich from the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, NY, who is our NCS visiting professor. He will speak on Cytoreductive Nephrectomy in Renal Cancer, and then lend his expert opinion in the case-based panel discussion on Surgical Management of Complex Renal Masses. The afternoon session will have an interesting talk on Practice Management/Billing in the Modern Age by Tom Ferkovicm from the Medic Management Group, which specializes in management, operational, and financial health care consulting New this year is the Resident Bowl. We are thrilled to have all Ohio urology training institutions participating in this stellar event. This year s program will conclude again with a fun session featuring Bizarre and Interesting Cases that will be submitted by residents across the state. I encourage everyone to join us in Cleveland for what promises to be a great meeting! Please invite your local colleagues and partners and allied healthcare providers to come and participate in the OUS. Discounted registrations rates are available for all urology RNs, NPs, PAs and administrative staff. Best regards, Krishnanath Gaitonde, MD OUS Secretary

5 NEEDS Urologists are often faced with clinical situations related to, or resulting from, GU trauma which is a field of Urology that sometimes does not get enough attention. It is important for practicing urologists to be aware of the latest management principles and surgical treatments for managing GU trauma and its sequelae. New developments in reconstructive urologic techniques represent an important knowledge base for urologists. Kidney cancer is a commonly encountered condition in a urologist s clinical practice. Patients with advanced kidney cancer often require a multidisciplinary approach. Cytoreductive nephrectomy plays an important part in the management of advanced kidney cancer. In this setting, urologists need to be aware of the role of this procedure, especially in the era of newer immuno-chemotherapeutic treatments. Renal masses can have complex presentations such as bilateral masses, large tumors, etc. Urologists should be aware of the management principles and surgical techniques in these situations. New technologies continue to be developed for the management of common urologic conditions such as BPH, nephrolithiasis and prostate cancer. Minimally invasive BPH therapies are making a strong come-back with the advent of techniques such as Rezum and UroLift. Endoscopic stone surgery continues to be a mainstay of treating nephrolithiasis, encouraging the development of new technologies such as the Moses P120 laser. Since its FDA approval, HIFU is gaining popularity as an ablative treatment option for prostate cancer. Such new technologies are important for urologists to be aware of, as they are integrated into practice. EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES At the conclusion of the OUS 2018 Annual Spring Meeting, attendees should be able to: 1. Describe the management principles and various surgical treatments for patients with GU trauma and its sequelae. 2. Describe new reconstructive surgical techniques for urologic conditions. 3. Recognize the benefits of new technologies in urology for common conditions such as novel BPH treatments, endoscopic stone fragmentation and HIFU. 4. Recognize the role of cytoreductive nephrectomy in the management of advanced kidney cancer. 5. Recognize surgical techniques available for the management of complex renal masses. ACCREDITATION AND CME POLICY This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint providership of the American College of Legal Medicine and the OUS.
