1 Community Education Program Summer ext Science Explorers Join the fun! Ages 7 to 10 years old Days & Time: Mon. to Fri. 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Location: Worcester Elementary School Cost: $195/Week, includes supplies Instructor: Science Explorers 205 Amusement Park Adventures June 25 to June 29 Come along for the ride as we build, mix and spin our way to an awesome Science Explorers' carnival day! Visit the midway where you'll experience first-hand a rockin' rollercoaster, bouncing bungees, and creations and concoctions straight from the lab including a super spin-art machine, homemade ice-cream, awesome art potions and a "gingerly-made" soda. 206 Mysteries & Mixtures July 9 to July 13 We ll reveal many mysteries of science as we investigate creepy creatures, learn troll tricks, capture a rainbow in a bottle, make instant snow, mix up glowing slime and conduct lab tests on mystery substances. 207 Take a Dive July 16 to July 20 Dive into the world of marine biology! Dissect a real shark, participate in a fisherman's challenge, examine the anatomy of a fish and learn the ancient technique of gyotaku or fish rubbing, learn to survive at sea with a homemade solar still, create a kelp forest and make your own submarine. 208 FUN-omenal Physics July 23 to July 27 What do you get when you take the physics of motion, add into some electrifying experiments, and mix it up with some chemistry? Everyone has a blast! Create your own motorized invention, experiment with light and flight, make your own kaleidoscope and experiment with giant floating bubbles. 209 Earth's Mysteries July 30 to August 3 Explore the amazing mysteries of the Earth! Go back in time and create cast fossils, get an up close look at the food chain as you dissect an owl pellet, harness solar power to cook a yummy snack, and create a tornado in a bottle! There is so much to discover about how things work on this incredible planet. Creative Art Classes Ages 7 to11 years old Children will practice skills and create beautiful creations during the art program. Each week will focus on a different topic. Register for one week or for all five weeks. Days & Times: Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Location: Worcester Elementary School Cost: $100 per week* includes supplies $450 all five weeks! Instructor: Gina Zummo 200 Famous Artists June 25 to June 29 Look into the lives of your favorite artists: Monet, Pollock, Michelangelo, Warhol, Van Gogh, and more! What would it have been like to be Michelangelo while he painted the Sistine Chapel laying on his back? You won t know until you try it yourself. Join us to find out! 201 Clay Creations July 9 to July 13 Clay is always a favorite! We will explore the world of threedimensional art while utilizing the media of clay, sculpey, and much, much more. Get your hands dirty while you create art that can be functional or nonfunctional. 202 World of Art July 16 to July 20 Art can take different shapes and forms depending on where it was created in the world. Find out the reasons why different cultures create different styles of art. Come journey around the world with us as we replicate the art of many fascinating cultures. 203 Grab Bag! July 23 to July 27 Calling all crafty kids! Craft-making is an art form too. Work with fabric, beads, string, wire, and other materials to create a masterpiece. Mix it up and let your creative juices flow! 204 Mixed Media and Textiles July 30 to August 3 Explore the world of design. Experiment with paint, fibers, ink, printmaking, and anything else that inspires you to create! You will experience new materials and techniques that will take your art to another level.

Time: 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Cost: $75 Or 303B Time: 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. 401 Musical Theater A ges: Grades 3-12 Date: June 25 to August 3 (Mon Friday) Time: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (11:30 on Fridays) Summer Music Opportunities The Summer Orchestra Concert will be held in the Methacton High School Auditorium on Thursday, July 3, 2012 Location: Arcola Auditorium Cost: $450 Instructor: Judi Anastasi So you want to be a star? Join us for an experience in learning lines, songs, and dances. Students will assist with sets, costumes, lights and sound. Acting skills for drama, comedy, musical theater, dance, movement, and vocal will be taught at this camp. A final performance will be on August 3, World Music Drumming (Grades 4-6) Date: June 18 to June 22 Days: Monday Friday Location: Skyview Music Room Cost: $90 Time: 9:00 a.m. Noon Instructor: Miss Natalie Andreoli Based on the drumming traditions of West Coast Africa and the Islands of the Carribean, this class is designed for students to explore various percussion instruments and experience the tradition of world music drumming. Through imitation and repetition, students will perform in an active, hands-on atmosphere. They will learn proper drumming technique, sing traditional songs, and experience various roles in an ensemble. 800 Summer Band Program Dates: June 18-July 5 Days: Monday through Thursday Cost: $115 Full Band: 4:30 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Instructor: Mrs. Traci Bugosh Students must have completed a minimum of 1 year of instrumental lessons. Students will participate in both large ensemble and small group lessons each week. Small group lessons 4:00pm-4:30pm Monday Woodwinds (flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophones) Tuesday Brass (trumpets and French horn) Wednesday Brass (trombone, baritone, tuba) Thursday - Percussion 801 Introduction to Jazz Date: June 18 to July 5 Days: Monday Thursday Cost: $75 Time: 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Instructor: Mrs. Cindy Heffernan Open to any student in any grade that has no prior jazz band experience. Student must have completed a minimum of 1 year instrumental lesson on a band instrument. 802 Summer Jazz Date: June 18 to July 5 Days: Monday Thursday Cost: $100 Full Band: 7:30 p.m. 8:30 p.m. Instructor: Mrs. Cindy Heffernan Students must have completed sixth grade. Percussion, guitar and bass students need to be able to read music. Jazz band instrument techniques and ensemble studies will be taught. Section als: 8:30 p.m. 9:00 p.m. Monday Saxophones Tuesday Rhythm section Wednesday Trumpets Thursday Trombones Community Service High School students (must have completed 9 th grade) may earn community service credit through participation in Concert Band and/or Jazz Band. Applications for will be accepted by until May 30, The Summer Concert Band and Jazz Band Performance will be held in the Methacton High School Auditorium on Thursday, July 5, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. 813 Early Childhood Summer Music Program (K-1) Date: July 16 to July 20 Days: Monday Friday Location: Woodland Music Room Cost: $90 Time: 9:00 a.m. Noon Instructor: Miss Natalie Andreoli This session is designed to expose children to a variety of vocal, instrumental, and environmental sounds. Students will sing, chant, move, and play instruments. Using an exploratory approach, students will use a range of materials to learn basic musical elements and skills through play. Students will enjoy a hands-on atmosphere, while exploring their singing voice, creative movement, and story-telling.

Kids Time Ages 6-11 years old Dates & Time: Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (11:30 on Fri) Location: Worcester Elementary School/Gym Cost: $90 per week. $500 (for all six weeks) Join the fun at this enriching and fun camp designed to beat the summertime blues. Certified teachers and high school aides will keep the fun going with arts/crafts, physical games, group activities, games and more. Sign up for all six weeks or choose the dates that work best for your family. Insructors: Na Park, Desiree Getz, Sean McCracken. Minimum: June 25 to June July 2 to July 6 *$ July 9 to July July 16 to July July 23 to July July 30 to August Chess (5-14 years) June 25 to June Chess (5-14 years) July 9 to July Chess (5-14 years) July 30 to August 3 Spend a week playing and learning about chess from the Silver Knights chess coaches! Our coaches are highly-rated professional chess instructors who have taught tens of thousands of children to play, many of whom have won state and national championships. Campers are broken up into groups by skill level, so we accept anyone from total beginners up through experienced and highlyrated tournament players. Each camper receives a T-shirt and a tournament-style chess set. Activities include learning openings, tactics, endgames, studying master games, playing rated games against fellow students, and analyzing the students' games. Campers will take short breaks for snacks and fresh air every hour. Full Day Campers will enjoy lunch and recess for an hour from 12:00-1:00. Each day of this camp, we ll make foods that Josefina, Kirsten, Kaya, and Samantha & Nellie would have eaten if they were really little girls in that era. Girls will decorate an apron to use and take home at the end of the week. Girls are welcome to bring their dolls along! Instructor: Kitchen Wizards Date: July 16 to July 19 Times: 10:00 a.m. to Noon Location: MHS B103 Cost: $100 + $55 material fee payable to instructor 451 Cooking Around the USA Camp (Boys & Girls: Ages 10-14) Camp will feature food from a different section of the United States of America each day including Southern Cooking, Hawaiian, California Cuisine and Philly Phoods. Instructor: Kitchen Wizards Date: July 16 to July 19 Times: 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Location: MHS B103 Cost: $100 + $55 material fee payable to instructor 452 Create Your Own 3D Video World (Ages 9-12 years) Children ages 9-12 will learn how to create their own 3D video world. They will design and modify their own world however they want. What characters, animals, props, scenery, etc. will be chosen for their virtual world, and what will they do? The children will love how creative they can be with 3D in this advanced course. Max. 12 students Instructor: Computer Tots Date: July 16 to July 20 Times: 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Location: MHS C155 Cost: $ A/405A/406A Mornings Only (9:00 a.m. to noon) 402B/405B/406B Afternoon Only (1: 00 p.m. 4:0 0 p.m.) 402C/405C/406C Cost: $265 Location: MHS FDR Full Day 453 Cartoon Adventures ( Ages 6-8 years) You will find yourself inside a cartoon and then the fun begins! You will choose between hundreds of images and then you will create a cartoon strip with backgrounds, speech bubbles, wacky tunes and special effects. You will even be able to record sounds and words to make your cartoon come alive. 4 Sport Camps and Clinics Summer Swim Clinics Ages 2nd-6th grades Dates: June 25 to July 27 Times: 9:00 a.m. 10:00 a.m. (Monday --Thursday) Location: Methacton High Pool Cost: $ Level 2 Intermediate Swimmers. Join this group of swimmers who know how to swim and want to work on their technique. Summer Swim Clinics Ages 4th-12th grades Dates: June 25 to July 27 Times: 7:00 a.m. 9:00 a.m. (Monday --Thursday) Location: Methacton High Pool Cost: $ Level 3 Advanced Level is for those swimmers who need equal amount of yardage and technique work to move up into the elite group. 617 Level 4 Elite Level is for those swimmers who are competing in USS Swimming and will be training for the Long Course Swim Season. 651 Warrior Basketball Camp Grades: 3-8 Date: June 25 to June 29 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Location: Methacton High School Boys Gym & Girls Gym Coach: MHS Basketball Coach, Jeff Derstine LEARN BASKETBALL THE WARRIOR WAY Warrior Boys Basketball Camp is designed to provide opportunities for basketball skill development in a fun and competitive environment. The week long camp features: Individualized Skill Instruction Team Offensive and Defensive Strategies Fun Competitions (Hot Shot, Knockout, King of the Court, etc.) Tournament Play (1 on 1, 2 on 2, 3 on 3) 5 on 5 League Games 600 Methacton Cheerleading Ages: 5-12 years Date: July 23 to July 26 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Location: Methacton High School Boys Gym & Girls Gym Cost: $135 Coach: MHS Cheerleaders, Deana Ellison Have your child come join the Methacton Cheerleaders for a fun filled week of cheerleading! Campers will learn cheers, chants, jumps, stunts and dances. At the end of camp, there will a brief performance for parents and friends. The campers will receive a t-shirt at the end of the week. The camp will be run by the Methacton High School varsity lacrosse coaching staff. Each session will include instruction and drills emphasizing individual skills and team concepts. Position-specific instruction will be provided. Each session will conclude with a scrimmage. All players must provide their own equipment including mouthpieces. 632 Summer Speed & Quickness Ages: years Date: July 9 July 13 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Location: Methacton High School Track Cost: $75 Coach: Christian Stamm The Arcola Track & Field coach will be offering a 4 day camp this summer. All instruction will take place at the Methacton High School Track. We will also be using the high school's gyms and/or hallways during poor weather. Each camp will focus on increasing the athletes speed, quickness, and flexibility. Exercises and drills will be geared towards improving skills for all sports. Campers should bring their sport specific footwear (i.e. spikes if applicable) and be prepared to run on all surfaces. All levels of ability are welcome.
5 Registration Information To register by mail, complete the registration form in this brochure and mail it with your check or credit card information to the community education office. NEW! Online registration is now available at on the community education page. A convenience fee of $5 will be added to your total to process credit card payments. Please include a separate check for each class selection. Registrations will be accepted in the order they are received and payment must accompany registration. Confirmation will be sent via . No confirmation will be mailed, unless a self addressed, stamped envelope is enclosed. Fees are NOT refundable unless the class is cancelled. Classes will only be offered with sufficient enrollment. School closings due to inclement weather, All evening programs are cancelled. Gold Cards are available to residents more than 60 years old. Please include a copy of your driver s license showing proof of residence and age. The Community Education Program is under the auspices of the Methacton School District, is selfsupporting, and is a not-for-profit organization.
