Food prep skills are at the heart of the programs, but kids are also exposed to other important food-related concepts. Etiquette, in and around the kitchen, and table service skills are conveyed in a way that keeps kids interested. Safety is emphasized along the way as kids dive into an education that also includes elements of science, math, reading, and health. Cooking methods, such as steaming, stir-frying, roasting, and/or preparation of cold/raw plates. Learn to cook a variety of international dishes including Thai, Persian, Indian, and Hawaiian cuisines. Persian Cuisine: Delicious sauces mixed to awaken the senses using the right balance of sweet, sour, salty, & tangy use of healthy and tasty Herbs, Basmati Rice, saffron, and much more - these are but a few of the unique ingredients that define Persian cooking. Throughout the centuries, the Persian Empire (modern-day Iran) freely mingled its rich culture with those of China, India, and Eastern Europe. This resulted in a vibrant cuisine rich in flavor, color, and texture. North & South India: Style of food: North Indian curries usually have thick, moderately spicy and creamy gravies. The use of dried fruits and nuts is fairly common even in everyday foods. Dairy products like milk, cream, cottage cheese, ghee (clarified butter) and yoghurt play an important role in the cooking of both savory and sweet dishes. Southern Idea style of food: is perhaps the hottest of all Indian food. Meals are centered around rice or rice-based dishes. Rice is combined with Sāmbhar (a soup-like lentil dish tempered with whole spices and chilies) and rasam (a hot-sour soup like lentil dish), dry and curried vegetables and meat dishes and a host of coconut-based chutneys and poppadum's (deep-fried crispy lentil pancakes). Hawaiian: Exotic flavors such as miso, sake, ginger, pineapple, cilantro, mango, and macadamia nuts have long enhanced Hawaii's simmering melting pot. Laborers from China, Puerto Rico, the Philippines, Korea, the Azores, and Japan introduced the ingredients when they came to the islands to work the mammoth sugar plantations. But today Hawaii can also claim a range of fabulous fresh produce, including earthy mushrooms, vine-ripened tomatoes, bell peppers, herbs, watercress, and other greens. 450 Cooking is Fun!
