2 BULLETin CALIFORNIA STATE COLLEGE «SAN BERNARDINO November 1^, 1980 Annual Blood Drive Set For Wednesday The annual blood drive has been scheduled for 10 a.m.-3 Wednesday In the Health Center's main waiting room. The blood donated is deposited In the CSCSB blood bank account, which is at the disposal of faculty, staff and students, and members of their immediate families in the event of emergency. The only way to keep such a blood bank open is to periodically replenish the supply, and that's where the blood drive comes i n. There are also cash prizes to be won by donors. The CSEA and CPA have donated four $10 cash awards for staff or faculty to be given in a drawing following the close of the drive. Students are eligible for four $25 cash awards donated by the Associated Students and the Health Center Staff. Donating blood takes about an hour, which is granted all employees. Applications Due Monday For Sabbatical Leaves Academic Affairs Dr. J.C. nounced in mid-december. Monday Is the deadline for submitting applications for sabbatical leave during the academic year. The applications must be submitted to Associate Vice President for Robinson. Sabbatical award recipients will be an- A11 qualified faculty members have been sent applications and an explanation of the evaluation criteria. A minimum of six years continuous service in an academic or academic-administration position is required. Information regarding the application and the evaluation process may be obtained from Dr. Robinson's office. Personal Holiday Deadline Nears Employees who have not taken their personal leave day have until Dec. 31 to do so or lose the time off. Anyone hired as a full-time employee before the end of 1980 is eligible for one eight-hour day off with pay. Part-time employees are entitled to proportional time. Unlike vacation and floating holidays, personal leave days cannot be carried into the new year.

3 Seats Still Available seats are still available for the drama depart- Dr^^r^..r^-PtrNA, meht's ptemlere production of the year, Eugene For Drama Production O'Nelll's "Long Day's Joumey into Night." The play debuted last night and will run tonight and tomorrow. Following a two-day hiatus, the play will reopen Tuesday for another five days. Tickets are available In advance from the drama department. Pioneering Artist To Speak Here One of the pioneers of abstract painting In Los Angeles, Karl Benjamin, will present a talk titled "Insights Into a Painter's Development" at noon Tuesday in VA 110. Benjamin will discuss his work and the Southern California artistic environment since World War II; his talk will be illustrated by slides. Faculty, staff and students are Invited. An exhibit of Benjamin's works Is on display through Nov. 23 In the University of Redlands art gallery. Thursday Concert To Feature UCR Ensemble UCR'S collegium Muslcum will be featured dur- ha";/'"''"'' Collegium Muslcum, under the direction of Fred Gable, plays Medieval/Renaissance music using reproductions of instruments of the period and performs choral selections from the same period. Faculty, staff and students are Invited. There Is no charge. 5K Run Set Next Week Maps of the course are available at the Intramural PE office for those who want to study the course beforehand. SIgn-ups, however, will be taken just prior to the k start of each day's run. First place finishers In the men's and women's divisions will receive T-shirts and everyone who finishes will receive his or her choice of a pumpkin pie or a free turkey dinner at the Commons. In addition, the runner who comes closest to predicting his or her running time will receive a Turkey Trot T-shirt. PLANS OPEN HOUSE MuSICK'S Recreation _ - to re-creating the chamber performances of the 10 PERFORM IONIGHT ^y^h and isth centuries, will perform at 8:15 tonight In the Recital Hall. Mustek's Recreation, a classical group dedicated Mustek's Recreation members, who are in residence at Claremont Graduate School, spend their non-performing time researching the tempo, ornamentation and other aspects of those early performances and incorporating their findings into their programs. The instruments used by the group--among them a violin, a basso continuo, a harpsichord are reproductions of instruments of the period. Tickets are available at the door at $2 general admission and $1 for students with identification. SEQUOIA SKI PROGRAM «I- TV ticipate In a ski trip to Sequoia National Park PLANNED FOR DECEMBER PLANNED FOR DEC Faculty, staff and students are eligible to par- instruction in basic Nordic skiing, physical conditioning, equipment maintenance, cross-country orienteering, wilderness touring, winter survival techniques and first aid will be included in this extension offering. There will also be visits to Giant Forest, Moro Rock and the Wolverton Ski Area, and, weather permitting, moonlight touring. Anyone interested should contact the continuing education office to check on space availability. Cost is $30 pet person or $50 per couple. Richard Ackley (Academic Administration) had a chapter titled "Strategic Rocket Forces" published in the 1980 edition of Soviet Armed Forces Review Annual published by the Academic International Press. M.R. Burgess (Library) has an article titled "15 Planets Discovered by Science Fiction Writers" accepted for publication in The People's Almanac No. 3 edited by Irving Wallace and David Wallenchinsky. The book will be published In mid Dr. Michael Clarke (Public Administration) had an article titled "Welfare: Ideological Perspective" published in America the Beautiful: Reading In American Politics edited by Gary Jones and Jerry Semich, 1980, Burgess, Minneapolis. An Dr. Amer El-Ahraf (Health Science and Human Ecology) had a paper titled "The Administration of State and Local Environmental Health Programs Who is Responsible" published in the Sept./Oct. issue of the Journal of Environmental Health. Dr. Charles Hoffman (Psychology) and Dr. Edward Teyber (Psychology) had a paper titled "Undermining Fathers: A Response to Baumrind" accepted for publication in the American Psychol6g.tst.. Dr. Renate Nummela (Education) had an article titled "Stress Management: A Vital Theory for Education" accepted for publication in the Colorado Journal of Educational Research. Dr. Robert Senour (Audio-Visual) spoke on "Micrographics: Doing it Fast, Doing it Big, Doing It Everywhere" before the Pacific Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers Nov. 11 in Tucson, Arizona. Speaking Out pr. amer ei-ahraf (Health Science and Human Ecology) presented a paper on "The Health Impact of Refeeding as an Alternate Dairy Waste Management Technique" at the 108th annual meeting of the American Public Health Association in Detroit Oct. 20. Dr. Nathan Kravetz (Education) spoke to B'nai B'rith Nov. A on "Update on Argentina" in San Bernardino. The talk was a report on his Fulbright Scholarship stay in that country. Dr. Renate Nummela (Education) gave the keynote address for the Greater San Bernardino Area Women's Conference, Nov. 1. She spoke on "The Art of Living Alone." Dr. Dennis Pederson (Chemistry) spoke on "Careers in Science" before the Rim of World High School advanced placement science class Oct. 30.
