2 THE BULLETin CALIFORNIA STATE COLLEGE SAN BERNARDINO March BOARD OF TRUSTEES ACTIONS REPORTED The Board of Trustees of the California State University and Colleges took actions on the following matters at their January 25 meeting:. Amended Title 5 of the California Administrative Code to increase the number of units needed for the residence requirement for the bachelor's degree from 24 to 30, and to provide that 24 of these units must be upper division and 12 must be in the major. They further authorized the Chancellor to designate particular extension courses and credit-by-examination as appropriate for residence credit and authorized the campus Presidents to permit alternative means of meeting residence requirements where individual cases so merit...authorized the Chancellor to establish and adjust an Instructionally Related Activities Fee which shall be charged all regular students beginning in the Fall of Revenues from the fee shall be used for the support of instructionally related activities in the CSUC in accordance with the recommended guidelines of the Committee on Finance, one of which indicates that "the level of the fee shall be established for each campus by the Chancellor upon the recommendation of the campus President, initially not to exceed $10 per academic year and not to be increased beyond that level before fall, 1981."..Augmented the Board's budget request to the Legislature and the Governor to provide, in addition to a 9^9 percent salary increase for all academic employees, an equity salary adjustment for librarians averaging 5 percent. pl^ A two-minute tape recording covering current and forthcoming FOR INFO PDTLINE activities on campus can now be heard by dialing Highlights of College events will be covered in the brief summary. 4 COI^GE TO OFFER SCHOOL AUDICMETRIST CERTIFICATE The College has received state approval for courses which can lead to certification as a school audic»netrist. The State Health Dept. has established that satisfactory ccxipletion of two courses in ai^iometry offered here will lead to a certificate of registration as a school audiometrist. This certificate is required of all credentialed school nurses before conducting hearing tests. The College offers the two courses in audiometry through the Deot. of Health Science and Human Ecology. "Basic Audiometry and Hearing Problems" will be offered in the spring quarter, 6-7:50 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. The advanced courses will be taught in the Fall. Spring Quarter class schedules have arrived on campus, heralding the approach of the spring term. Copies are on sale in the Bookstore at 40^ each. Packets may be picked up at the Admissions and Records Office beginning next Monday, March 6, Academic advisement also begins on March 6 and continues throughout the week, ending Friday, March 10. WIND ENSEMBLE IN CONCERT PERFORMANCE A varied program of instrumental works ranging from Richard Wagner to Henry Fillmore will be presented by the Cal State Wind Ensemble Wednesday evening, March 8, The program will begin at 8:15 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Creative Arts Building. Conducting the 41~piece ensemble will be CSCSB Director of Bands, Paul Curnow. Opening with "A Festival Prelude" by Alfred Reed, regarded as a brilliant and powerful work for the modern wind ensemble, "Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral" by Richard Wagner and "Caccia and Chorale" by Clifton Williams, also will be performed. One of the earliest pieces for full concert band, "Toccata Marziale," will begin the second half, which includes "Variants on a Mediaeval Tune" by Norman Dello Joio and concludes with Fillmore's march "Americans We." The public is invited to attend the Wednesday evening performance without charge. it rtr tt VIVIEN BULL EARNS PH.D.- A. Vivien Bull, Lecturer in French, has been notified by the University of New Mexico that,effective December, 1977, she has completed all the requirements leading to the degree of Ph.D. In French. Dr. Bull, a native of England, who joined the CSCSB faculty in 1976, received her B.A. from^ Cambridge University and her M.A. from the University of New Mexico. Her dissertation, on the French novel, was entitled "The Problem of Evil: Interaction of Philosophy and Fiction to 1715." STAMPS GET INTO THE ACT AT THE GALLERY Stamps as an art form and art in the form of stamps will go on exhibit in the Art Gallery March 6.
