Kennedy Dr. Terry O Banion, a nationally acclaimed speaker and the President Emeritus of the League for Innovation in Community College, is speaking at Cypress College on Monday, December 2. His presentation Your Next Bright Idea Could Change Everything is open to all. Faculty are encouraged to bring their classes to hear this dynamic presenter. The spring 2014 class schedule is now available for purchase in the Bookstore. The printed version costs $2. An electronic version of the schedule is available online for free. Registration for spring begins on Monday. Spring courses begin the week of January 27, Late-start classes begin the week of The event will take place from 2-4 p.m. in the Campus Theater. Dr. O Banion s presentation is designed to inspire faculty, staff, and educational leaders to bring their best ideas to reality and to enrich student success. He will offer practical ways to explore and incorporate innovation into educational settings, communicate and implement bright ideas, and to envision, promote and increase student success. Dr. O Banion is a consultant to more than 800 community colleges across the United States and Canada, and is one of 11 Change magazine Idea Champions and the only community college leader on the list. Class Schedule Now Available in Print at Bookstore; Registration Begins Monday February 10, while second Half-Semester courses start the week of March 23. For Spring, Cypress is offering 1331 sections, about even with last spring when the college began expanding access following the passage of Proposition 30, and up 46 from spring Spring recess is the week of April 14-18, with the campus completely closed on Friday, April 18, for the spring holiday. Commencement is on Friday, May 23, 2014, at 6 p.m., in Gateway Plaza. The following day, Saturday, May 24, is the official last day of the is published each week. To date, 154 people have donated. A total of $17,500 has been designated for the Title V fund, which, when doubled, will be $35,000. So far, 25 employees have increased their donation, and nine donors are new to the President s Circle or have increased their President s Circle commitment to a higher Publication will be gobbling up turkey next week, so there will be no newsletter published on Friday, November 29. The next regularly scheduled edition will appear on Friday, December 6. With the fall semester wrapping up on Saturday, December 14, (and with a little good luck) the final fall 2013 edition Cypress will be published on Friday, December 13. This workshop will be facilitated by Terence Gleason and is designed for faculty and staff who provide website access to students. This workshop will provide an overview of the available resources available for required accessibility. It is designed for all knowledge levels and will use mygateway site studio, Blackboard Learn 9.1 and public facing websites. Participants will learn, discuss, and practice: General Access Strategies - text, images, audio, video and complex media types Accessibility Principles - Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, & Robust for all students General Tools - adding alt. tags, images and titles, captions, and long descriptions Auditory Tools - adding text transcripts of spoken dialogue for audio files Visual Tools - adding captions to video using YouTube Participants will take away resources, guidelines and references for future use To register please use the District-Wide Staff Development Registration Calendar under the employee tab on mygateway.
