1 Eagle Bound Comer Scout Reservation Winter Blast
2 Things to Note: Sunday morning is the 5 mile hike. Scouts must have a water bottle that is completely full when they arrive as well as comfortable shoes Scouts should ALWAYS have a water bottle with them, as well as a Jacket and Toboggan Scouts should arrive on time for all class sessions. There are five half-hour sessions each morning to keep the attention of the first-year scouts. Attendance is taken during the patrol meeting time, so if they aren t there, they will not receive credit for anything completed that part of the day (Excuses allowed in certain circumstances). Scouts should be prepared to go to a Merit Badge after lunch. This means that they should already have their required materials. Scouts will not be permitted to leave the merit badge without consent of the merit badge counselor. Scouts MAY NOT have knives with them. This is because typically, Eagle Bounders do not have their Totin Chip yet and nothing in eagle bound requires a knife on part of the participants. Knives will be confiscated and given to the Scoutmaster. There will be an adult leader meeting during the first session of Eagle Bound(friday Afternoon), and it is asked that one (1) leader from each troop w/ Eaglebounders attend. 8 Requirement Information There are a total of 40 requirements for Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class that Scouts have a possibility of completing while participating in the Eagle Bound program. That is more than half of the 68 total requirements for these ranks. This leaves only 28 requirements for the scouts to complete on their own, while at home to achieve first class 9 of these requirements must be performed on a troop level (Show Scout Spirit, Participate in a Scoutmasters Conference, Pass a Board of Review) 6 of these requirements require water, which would be unsafe to do at a winter camp. The Scouts will work towards earning at least two merit badges while at winter blast those are Fingerprinting(noneagle required(5 requirements)) and First Aid(Eagle Required(26 requirements)) *note: scouts will not complete First Aid requirement 2D. All together the scouts will complete at least 70 requirements over the course of Winter Blast 8
9 Overnighter Info Scouts will meet in the Eagle Bound area by 5:00 pm (No earlier than 4:45). They should be in their patrol area to meet with their patrol leader to get checked in, begin setting up their tents, and discuss what they will be doing. By about 5:15 pm, patrol leader will then get ready to work with the scouts at preparing meals. While food is cooking, scouts will participate in a flag ceremony in the Eagle Bound Area. After that, we will eat, and should be finished eating and cleaning by 7:00 pm. Afterwards, we will have an activity for the scouts based on the amount of daylight left. Scouts should be in bed by 10:00pm. Scouts will be up at 6:00am to break down camp, and get ready for morning assembly. Requirements Taught on the Overnighter: while practicing and performing the flag ceremony, all scouts will raise and lower the flag (TF 6). During food preparation/consumption scouts will discuss safe food handling and proper disposal(fc 4d ).After Cleanup Scouts may complete the Totin Chip (SC 3c) and/or Firem Chit (SC 3e, 3f) requirements if they haven t completed them already. We will provide the cards, but they will not be given to scouts. Instead, they will be placed in packets to be handed out after the campfire (May be changed at director's discretion). If a scout has already completed one or both then they will be allowed to chop firewood, and prepare a fire for the Eagle Bound Fireside Show. Items list: Meat patties Vegetables (Carrots, onions, potatoes, etc.) Seasoning salt (Staff will portion it) Drink (Preferably a flavored beverage of some sort. Possibly cooler of punch from the dinning hall) Alternative meal for those who do not eat meat. Tents (Half of the total number of Eagle Bounders plus 1 for staff) Plates and eating utensils *Notes: I understand scouts will miss assembly. We will provide some sort of similar function in the Eagle Bound area. Requirement(s): TF 2, 3 9
