1 April 18 and 19, 2015 Some classes have an additional fee to cover resource materials. Remaining classes have a minimum registration of $5 per day, plus $5 for lunch. For example, Den Chief plus lunch is $10. Add Knots for no additional charge. However, taking just Den Chief (and no lunch) would be $5. Course fees for the 2-day Leave No Trace have the overnight meals included in fees. For other attendees, you may also reserve a campsite for your "Training Contingent" and stay the weekend starting Friday night, going through Sunday if desired. You should plan your own dinner and breakfast. Hurry, favorite sites go fast! Note: We'll have a "mug club" all day in the JTC atrium. Feel free to drop in. Plus: New! Troop Trailer Rendezvous on Saturday... Bring your trailer to show off your organization skills. Set up your best Patrol Kitchen, prepare for a cook off and participate for a prize! Courses: Camp Gadgets (open time both mornings) (for both youth and adults) Course fee: $5 Enjoy some hands on time making useful gadgets like soap bags, twig stoves or rescue bracelets. Bring any of your own favorites to show and share. CPR (3 hrs) (for both youth and adults) Course fee $15 This course is designed to give you the confidence to respond in an emergency situation with skills that can save a life. This course satisfies the prerequisite for Wilderness First Aid. Den Chief (3 Hrs) (for youth, adults may attend if desired) Course fee: $5 Boy Scouts wishing to become den chiefs will take this course to learn den chief responsibilities and tasks, and understand the den chief's relationship to the adult den leaders and activities with the den. New! Dutch Oven Diva - Sunday Only (3 Hrs) Course fee $10 This class will offer the students the opportunity to learn the history, care and use of cast iron Dutch ovens as a means to cook food. We will prepare several dishes using different cooking skills. The participants will be cooking outside using charcoal briquettes as the heat source. It is helpful if class participants have some basic kitchen skills. (This class is a great way to get some of your cooking merit badge items!) New! Fire Starting Without Matches (for both youth and adults) Course fee: $5 Take your pyrotechnic skills to the next level. Learn how to be resourceful for your next campfire. New! Games that Build Teams (1 hr) (for both youth and adults) Course fee: $5 Page 1

2 April 18 and 19,2015 Take advantage of the Synergism that results when two or more people play together to achieve an effect greater than that of which each individual is capable. It is the state in which the whole is more than the sum of the parts. Knots (1 Hr) (for both youth and adults) This popular class will teach you how to tie practical and often lifesaving knots. Merit Badge Counselor (1 Hr) (for adults) This module will guide new and potential merit badge counselors through their responsibilities in the role and will give them an understanding of the methods of counseling Scouts. It is a short orientation course for new merit badge counselors before they begin working with Scouts. OlSC Test-Out (4 Hrs, approx) (for adults) Course fee: $5 If you already have great skills, show us how you would guide your scouts to first class. Equivalent credit is given for the required (IOlSC) training for Scoutmasters and assistants. Outdoor Ethics/ lnt Trainer (2 Days) (for youth age 14+ and adults) Course fee: $60 This is the required course for YOUTH to hold the position of "leave No Trace" Troop Trainer. For adults, this course prepares you for any of the outdoor ethics activities for Cub Scouts! Boy Scouts and Venturing. It includes Nature awareness, Stewardship ideals and advanced understanding of minimum impact activities that will ensure your unit conducts all their outdoor programs with minimal footprints. Come prepared to make a 10 minute presentation on one of the 7 principles of Leave No Trace. New! Packing Light (1 Hr) (for both youth and adults) Course fee: $5 Bring your favorite back pack and what you think you need for a typical trek. Get tips about what alternatives experienced trekkers have learned. Patrol leadership (1 Hr) (for both youth and adults) ''The patrol method is not a way to operate a Boy Scout troop, it is the only way. Unless the patrol method is in operation, you don't really have a Boy Scout troop." -RSS Baden-Powell Pioneering Kit Training (5 Hrs) (adults only) Course fee: $5 The program starts with teaching knots, followed by lashings, and ending with a pioneering project. Skills learned are used in competitive games involving knots and lashings. The skills learned are then used to complete their pioneering project. This course applies equal amounts of learning and fun. Completing this course is a requirement for being allowed to reserve the Pioneering Kit Trailer to use with your Scouting Unit when camping at Crown. Just show your attendance pocket card to the Campmaster on duty. Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmaster Specific (Saturday) (8 Hrs) Course fee: $15 Page 2

3 April 18 and 19, 2015 This "SM/ASM" course is required to be counted as a "Trained" Scoutmaster, Assistant or Varsity Coach. Learn how to light the fire and keep it going, how to work with boys and the Patrol Method, how to add sizzle with the outdoor program, advancement and much more!! Please bring a copy of the Scoutmaster handbook with you. (Ask other troop members to loan you a copy if you don't have one.) Venturing Advisor Specific (Sunday only) (2 Hrs) (for adults) Course fee: $5 This course is required to be counted as a "Trained" Venturing crew advisor or assistant. This course includes updates of the new ALPS recognition program. New! Venturing Committee Challenge (Sunday) (2 Hrs) (for adults) Course fee: $5 This course is required to be counted as a "Trained" Venturing crew committee chair or member. New! Venturing Goal-Setting and Time Management (Sunday) (3 Hrs) (for youth) This course is a requirement for the Venturing Discovery Award. Finding a successful time management strategy depends on a person's personality, ability to self-motivate and level of self-discipline. Come try out methods to effectively manage your time. Venturing Youth Protection (1 Hr) (for adults) This course is required for Venturing leaders who have direct contact with youth. This training will help leaders understand and guide youth through possible problems as it relates to abuse. You will also learn about the issues you may face as a leader to help provide a safer environment for the crew members and to protect yourself from false accusations. This course must be completed to earn the "Trained" emblem for Venturing and must be renewed each two years to renew our registration. Wilderness First Aid (2 Days) (for youth age 14+ and adults) Course fee: $75 If you are planning a trek to Philmont, Boundary Waters or other High Adventure bases, you are required to have a Wilderness First Aid certified adult with you. This certification must be within two years of your trek. Course fee: $75.00 (course has a prerequisite of CPR) Youth Protection (1 Hr) (for adults) This session is designed to help you keep our youth safe from abuse. You will learn the Boy Scouts of America's Youth Protection Guidelines, signs of abuse, and how to report suspected abuse. After each section of material, you will answer questions about that section's topic. This course must be completed to earn the "Trained" emblem for Cub and Boy Scouting and must be renewed each two years to renew our registration. Page 3
