1 SEPT. 14th 6:30PM-7:30PM Sign up for Scouting at an elementary school near you! FREE model rockets for new members to build and launch! CAMPAIGN THEME: Blast Into Scouting CAMPAIGN INCENTIVE: ROCKETS PLAN OVERVIEW: Host registration at every elementary school in W. D. Boyce Council on one night: Thursday, September 14, 2017 from 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm. Connect membership and incentive to an exciting program. Campaign incentive: Each youth who joins on September 14th, will receive a rocket and a free invitation to participate in a Blast into Scouting Cub Launch. Develop council-level marketing resources to flood the market with this one consistent message: Go to your local elementary school on September 14th to join Scouting! Continue to develop Lion Program. Blast into Scouting Cub launches will be held across the entire council to excite new families in the fall. NEW ONLINE REGISTRATION: Register and approve youth through my.scouting.org. Families can register through Training to be provided at the July and August membership kickoffs. UNIT RESPONSIBILITY: Packs attend Blast into Scouting Training held prior to September 14th. Packs promote their unit throughout the summer at community events (parades, festivals, church events, sporting events). Where possible, packs attend School Open House/Meet the Teacher nights to promote Scouting. Packs staff all elementary schools on September 14 to register new Scouts. Designate a separate meeting within 10 days of the September 14th registration event to orient parents (and recruit necessary adult leaders). ON SEPTEMBER 14th, 2017: Packs and district volunteers staff every elementary school to register new Scouts. Provide a pack calendar with contact information and the date of orientation meeting (to be held within ten days of registration night). Turn in application at district turn-in location.

45 ADULT LEADER TRAINING Every youth deserves a trained leader and every leader deserves training. The Training Continuum, promoting Lifelong Learning, provides a seamless training program including Fast Start, This Is Scouting, Youth Protection, Leader Specific training, supplemental training and Wood Badge. A very good supplemental training opportunity is called Pow Wow. Cub Scout and Venturing adult leaders are considered trained when they have completed the web based curriculum at National s My Scouting ( aspx), including Youth Protection and Leader Position Specific Training. Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters must complete all of the trainings above as well as Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills to be considered trained. Youth Protection Training Youth Protection Training has been determined to be a mandatory training for all volunteers in the BSA and must be updated every two years. Modules are available online at scouting.org/pages/elearning.aspx for both Cub/Boy Scout Leaders and for Venturing leaders. Videos are available for purchase for the Unit Training Chair to keep in a library of resources, or training can be scheduled for your unit with the Volunteers District Training Chair or with your Unit Serving Executive. Age-appropriate videos are also available to assist in educating youth to recognize abusive or inappropriate sitations: It Happened to Me (Cub Scouts), A Time to Tell (Boy Scouts), and Personal Safety Awareness (Venturing). It is strongly encouraged that units provide this opportunity to their families after notifying parents/families of the training opportunity. This Is Scouting This Is Scouting is an introductory session that highlights the values, aims, history, funding, and methods of Scouting. It addresses how these aims and methods are reached in an ageappropriate style within Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, Varsity Scouting, and Venturing. This web based video includes review questions presented during the approximate 45-minute training session. The curriculum can be completed through the Training website: scouting.org/pages/elearning.aspx. Leader Specific Training Once a volunteer has a solid overview of the BSA s values-based program, he or she can begin training for a specific Scouting position through Leader Position Specific Training. This training proivdes the specialized knowledge a new leader needs to assume a leadership role. Supplemental Training Activities Scouting offers supplemental training opportunities for all Scouting leaders. Topics are listed below with their respective units: Cub Scouts Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation-recommended for all Cub Scout leaders; required for Packs that go camping off Council-owned property. Outdoor Webelos Leader Skills for taking Webelos on overnights. Boy Scouts CPR Hazardous Weather Safety Afloat Safe Swim Defense Venturing Crew Leadership Training: used by Advisors to teach leadership skills to all Venturers in the crew through nine leadership modules. Kodiak: week long course teaching relevant leadership skills to youth.
