Janet explained that the MGO is a key resource for anything Rotary related. She loves to visit and speak with clubs because that s where it all happens. Janet congratulated Sunset Rotary on their Foundation giving for This shows Sunset s commitment to The Rotary Foundation. In 1985, Rotary International stood up in front of the world and said We are going to eradicate polio in the world! We are a humanitarian organization, not a world health or medical group, but with over a hundred countries endemic with the polio virus, we must take action. Rotary s work alongside other international sources, has reduced the countries endemic to Three. India was certified polio free in January. Consider: If we can do this in India, we CAN do it in the remaining three countries! The funding gap to bring polio to an end is estimated at $525 million dollars. The target date is 2018 a mere four years from now. Governments and other organizations are stepping up to the task and helping. The Gates Foundation is matching two-to-one dollar for every dollar Rotary raises. Rotary s End Game will close the funding gap and Rotary will see this through. Melinda Golden, a member of the Hancock Rotary Club said, By purchasing this furniture, the Hancock Rotary is meeting an identified need in the community and at the same time helping the environment. That makes us feel good. In total, Rotary was featured for 13 days in the newspaper, including a large article featuring all of the participating club members photos. Rotary was also heard over the radio waves as part of a PSA campaign through Cessna Communications, a popular multi-station company whose signal reaches throughout the Bedford County region.

7 Our club also took advantage of direct-mail advertising and advertising through the Bedford County Chamber of Commerce. Pictured left to right: Art DeCamp, Huntingdon Rotary Paul Harris Committee Chair; Chris Gildea; Dwight Beall; Yvonne Martin, Huntingdon Rotary Club President. HUNTINGDON CLUB NEWS On July 8 the Huntingdon Rotary Club recognized two members Dwight Beall and Chris Gildea for their service by presenting them with Rotary s highest honor the Paul Harris Fellowship award. Beall, the club s immediate past president, was honored with his second Paul Harris award in recognition of his service to the club and his service to the community, most notably as President of the Huntingdon Community Center Board of Directors. As Ted Aurand, Community Center Director attested, Volunteering is the backbone of our organization and Dwight is the epitome of that. He has done everything at the Huntingdon Community Center. Among his many accomplishments are securing the long-term lease of the former William Smith School and engineering the expansion of the current HCC site; setting up the afterschool program that runs during the school year; and establishment of the summer free lunch program.
