1 DISTRICT 7360 NEWSLETTER July 2015 While almost every month of the year has a Rotary theme," July does not. However, I think RI President Ravi Ravidran s theme, Be a Gift to the World, will trump every other monthly theme I write about during the Rotary Year. For every one of us, the opportunities for helping those less fortunate have never been greater. In fact, The Rotary Foundation s six Areas of Emphasis highlight what Rotary is all about. These six areas are as follows: 1. Peace and Conflict Resolution/Prevention 2. Disease Prevention and Treatment 3. Water and Sanitation 4. Maternal and Child Health 5. Basis Education and Literacy 6. Economic and Community Development This is not to preclude the work we do locally for the betterment of our communities is unimportant. But Rotary is indeed global. While we are 1.2 members strong and growing to serve a world more than seven billion people, we can take heart in knowing our more than 35,000 Rotary Clubs are in 210 countries. That is more countries that the current number in the United Nations! By continuing to follow Rotary s motto Service Above Self and following the Four Way Test as our daily guide, we will truly be Gifts to the World. This year, I challenge each and every one of you to commit to the following: 1. Help your club qualify for the Presidential Citation in doing so, I promise you and your club will be more vibrant in promoting the Rotary Spirit. 2. Give $2.00 or more each week and become a Rotary Sustaining Member 3. Bring at least one new guest to your Rotary Club this year. 4. Attend each District Rotary event as you are able. Aside from the food, new friends, and exciting activities, you will embark on a new Rotary path, which will let you fall in love with Rotary once again (if you haven t already). In return, I promise to be transparent in leading our district, be held accountable in all my activities, and promote good business practices. Most of all, I will follow the Four Way Test, have it grounded in me as my Northern Star and challenge each of you to do likewise. All the very best for a wonderful year! Yours through Rotary Service, David A. Ford District Governor KNOEBELS AMUSEMENT RESORT AUGUST 22ND -- A FUN DAY FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY! Have you ever visited the number ONE family amusement park in the country which happens to be in our 7360 Rotary District? On August 22 nd, our district will congregate at 11:00 a.m. at Pavilion H for a wonderful daylong outing. Knoebels is a family owned park located near Elysburg, Pennsylvania. Parking is free and the rides are pay as you go. District 7360 will provide the beverages and grills. Please bring a pot-luck dish to share. Dress is strictly informal. In fact, a water park is on the premises with changing rooms, if you would like to go on the water slides or swim in the enormous pool. The Knoebel family has operated Knoebels Amusement Park since 1926 and actually own the land. The setting is beautiful! This is the largest free-admission park in America. Check out the web site and be amazed. On August 22, bring the kids and enjoy what will be a super family-fun event for all Rotarians. See you there! DG Dave Ford ALTOONA ROTARIAN TO RIDE FOR MS What 60 year old man in his right mind would sign up to spend a weekend on a bicycle with 400+ other cyclists riding 75 miles a day, rain or shine, hot or cold? But that s exactly what I plan to do on July 18 and 19 when I join the Keystone Country Ride to help raise money for Multiple Sclerosis. This will actually be my 18th Keystone Country Ride. Add in three other rides that I have done in Western PA for MS and I will break the 3,000 mile mark riding on my way back home on Sunday. That s a LOT of miles!

3 Over the past 17 years I have been fortunate enough to raise over $208,000 to help those with Multiple Sclerosis. That money helps to support those who have MS, goes to research that includes efforts to find new medications that are more effective in treating patients with MS, and supports patient education which is so important for those who have MS. I am asking you to support my effort knowing that there are many good causes that are worthy of our help and support. My goal again this year is to raise $14,000. I fell short of that goal last year, but I am not one to give up so easily. If you are willing to help, pledging can be as simple as responding to this with an amount. Once you pledge simply send me a check to the address below payable to MS Society Keystone Country Ride by the end of August. You can also pledge and donate on-line. Donating on-line is safe, simple, and convenient. If you wish to pledge and donate on line simply click the link below and it should take you right to my page. Just click on the button that says Donate to Me. If you have any trouble donating on line just let me know. < XBikeEvents?px= &pg=personal&fr_id=25906>. There are more than 400,000 Americans living with MS in the. Your support of this ride WILL help to make changes in their lives. Please consider making a pledge and donation- large or small- any amount will help us to fight MS. I greatly appreciate your consideration and would greatly your support. YOUTH EXCHANGE NEWS Carl E. It was so much fun. There was a total 54 young men and women this year. What a difference from our first RYLA eleven years ago, when we had only seven. This year we had Kathy Krinks and Ann Dunlavy to co-chair the event. The event was held once again at the Juniata College campus in Huntingdon, PA. What is RYLA? Rotary Youth Leadership Awards is a fourday program where the students from all over our district come together to meet new people and work on leadership skills, and team building. The students are selected from their schools and interviewed by a committee and are selected for this scholarship. The program costs nothing to the students and is sponsored completely by their local Rotary clubs. This year as always we had some wonderful speakers and activities. ShelterBox; Shavers Creek for team building; Getting to Know You with Cheryl Gonsman; Opening Keynote Speaker, Dr. James Troha, President of Juniata College talking about "Making a Difference Each and Every Day". Followed by a panel discussion with Dave Cadle of Through, Inc.; Pam Grugan, JV Sustainability Club; Doug Sloey with Blair Hope for Families; and Katie Smith with Planet Love Joy. We had breakout sessions during the day with Darwin Kysor on "Your Leadership Style" and Lauren Echols on Public Speaking. Another Keynote speaker was Dr. Susan Russel on "Dignity and Integrity".
