The general membership will be asked to vote on proposed regional trauma plan revisions. The regional trauma plan will be disseminated within the next couple of weeks. Five executive committee member seats are up for election this year: physician, nurse, hospital, administrator, health department and EMS representatives. If you or someone you know would be interested in serving, please let us know. A nomination form is attached along with a list of current executive committee members and their contact information. It is important to have a vote from every member of the Northwest Regional Trauma Council (NWRTC). If you are unable to attend the meeting, a proxy has been attached for you to assign your voting privileges to another member who is attending the meeting and can vote on your behalf. Continuing education will be provided for physicians, APRNs, nurses, and EMS. 4 CONTINUING EDUCATION All participants are required to complete and sign a verification of attendance form. After the program, a certificate of completion will be provided to activity participants based on documentation of actual attendance time. Physicians: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint providership of the University of Kansas Medical Center Office of Continuing Medical Education, Kansas Trauma Program and Northwest Regional Trauma Council. The University of Kansas Medical Center Office of Continuing Medical Education is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The KU Medical Center Office of Continuing Medical Education designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. APRNs: The University of Kansas Medical Center Area Health Education Center East, as an approved provider of continuing education by the Kansas State Board of Nursing, presents this offering for a maximum of 6.0 contact hours credit applicable for relicensure of APRNs. PRESENTATION DESCRIPTIONS Pediatric Trauma: Stabilization & Transport This lecture will strengthen the healthcare provider s knowledge and comfort level when taking care of pediatric trauma patients. It will cover topics such as the primary & secondary survey, abdominal trauma, chest trauma, damage control resuscitation and transport. It will finish up with an amazing case study. Current Recommendations in Spinal Immobilization Spine boards have always been a part of modern EMS. But are they beneficial? Andrew will assess the science of spinal immobilization practices and evaluate the risks and benefits of using a spine board and will discuss current recommendations in spinal immobilization. Snake Bites: Types, Symptoms, and Treatments This presentation will provide an overview of types of snakebites and snakebite management. CarFit: Fitting Older Adults to Their Vehicles CarFit is an educational program that offers older adults the opportunity to check how well their personal vehicles fit them. The CarFit program also provides information and materials on community-specific resources that could enhance their safety as drivers, and/or increase their mobility in the community. This presentation will provide information on state, regional and community-specific CarFit resources. Level IV Site Review: Sharing Our Experience Designated trauma centers must meet the essential criteria that ensure trauma care capability and institutional performance, as outlined by the Kansas Trauma Program. The Kansas Trauma Program provides confirmation that a level trauma center has demonstrated its commitment to providing the highest quality trauma care for all injured patients through a site review process. Dr. Craig Concannon and Mary Gray, Mitchell County Health Systems, will share their level IV trauma center s site review process experience. Agriculture & ATV Injuries: Managing Treatment This presentation will provide an overview of agriculture and ATV injuries occurring in the NW region of Kansas and discuss management and treatment of associated injuries. Aeromedical Considerations When Transporting Trauma Patients by Air This presentation provides an overview of utilizing air medical transport from initial notification to delivery at a tertiary care facility. Discussion will center around best practice for trauma patients and processes to accomplish an efficient transport. FLEX s Focus on EMS/Trauma: Past, Present, and Future The Medicare Rural Hospital Flexibility (FLEX) Program focuses on supporting the quality improvement in critical access hospitals (CAHs), supports the operational and financial improvement in CAHs, supports the health system development and community engagement including integrating EMS in regional and local systems of care, and designation of CAHS in the State. The FLEX program has provided funding support for trauma education the past several years. This presentation will provide information on how the FLEX Program is refocusing its efforts and will be supporting EMS initiatives including performance improvement and use of field triage guidelines education.
