Northwest Kansas Technical College serves the educational need of a seventeen county service area including the twelve counties identified in the "Counties Served" section above. Northwest Tech also directly serves Greeley, Wichita, Scott, Hamilton, and Kearny counties in Kansas. Northwest Tech is a progressive college that serves students in primarily the trial-state area but also has other state and nations represented within the college community. Northwest Kansas Technical College is seeking funds to develop a Mobile Technical Education Lab. The Mobile Technical Education Lab will consist of five simulated-based learning stations that will educate students about technical careers and give them the opportunity to experience a hands-on activity. This experience will give students and adults the opportunity to explore and discover new potential careers that they may have not considered before. 4 Brenna Balduff Northwest Kansas Technical College Northwest Kansas Technical College is seeking funds to develop the Mobile Technical Education Lab. This would include the purchase of four simulated-based learning stations, a walk ramp, and funds for the interior of the trailer. The four simulated-based learning stations include the Wood-Ed table, SimSpray, AC/DC Trainer, and the Hybrid Vehicle Systems Panel Trainer. The Wood-Ed table is a virtual wood-cutting training device. Students will be able to experience customized learning exercises in different categories such as the band saw, shaper, rip saw and more. The SimSpray is a virtual reality simulator bay for Automotive Body repair. Students will be able to virtually spray a vehicle. The AC/DC trainer lets students safety explore the fundamental concepts of AC and DC electrical systems. The Hybrid Vehicle Systems Panel Trainer is a mock front end of a hybrid vehicle that students will be able to modify. Project Objectives* What do you hope to achieve and how will it benefit the people of Northwest Kansas? Northwest Kansas Technical College's Mobile Technical Education Lab to allow K-12 and adult learners the opportunity to experience hands-on participation in in-demand technical fields as identified by the Kansas Department of Commerce. The ultimate goal is to bring awareness of potential technical careers to students. Since we are in a rural region, it is most beneficial if we are able to bring the Stimulation Lab to our area schools. The mobile lab will include multiple stimulations such as welding, automotive body repair, electrical circuitry, carpentry, and automotive technology. This project will ultimately increase interest in technical career fields for our 17 county service area in Kansas. Timetable for the Project* When is the project projected to begin and end? For ongoing projects, when will the Dane G. Hansen funds be utilized? The project will begin in the Spring. The simulated-based learning stations will be ordered as soon as possible. The trailer construction and installation of the simulated-based learning stations will be completed by May Additional Support Describe additional sources of support (if any) that have been secured or that will be pursued for this project. A majority of the Mobile Technical Education Lab will be constructed by Northwest Tech students. Evaluation* How will you evaluate the success of the project/program? Be specific. (If funded, this will be helpful when completing the final grant report.) The success of the Mobile Technical Education Lab will be determined by how many people in Northwest Kansas that it reaches. Students and adult learners will be required to sign-in before entering the Mobile Technical Education Lab. Northwest Tech will be able to track how many people have entered the Mobile Technical Education Lab to try the simulated-based learning stations. Box 187 Logan, KS To Whom It May Concern: On behalf of the Kansas State Department of Education, I am excited to see this proposal and would like to recommend for Northwest Kansas Technical College to be awarded grant funds in pursuit of a Mobile Technical Education Lab. This project will use simulation stations to allow middle school to adult learners the opportunity to experience hands-on participation in in-demand technical fields as identified by the Kansas Department of Commerce. The ultimate goal will bring awareness of potential technical careers to students. Since Northwest Tech is located in a rural region, it is most beneficial if they are able to bring the Mobile Technical Education Lab to area schools. Simulation is often used when the real world conditions cannot be easily created, or is too costly. The equipment that will be purchased with the grant funds is designed to introduce technical careers that might not otherwise be familiarized with at such an early age. Students and adult learners will be able to experience real-world scenarios that will better prepare them for choosing a career. The Mobile Simulation Lab operated by the Northwest Kansas Technical College will shed light on the opportunities relevant to the future of children in the 17 county region of northwest Kansas and create relevance for the learning paths in which those students choose as our schools prepare them for a future of innovation. Box 187 Logan, KS To Whom It May Concern: I would like to make a recommendation for Northwest Kansas Technical College to be awarded grant funds in pursuit of a Mobile Technical Education Lab. I believe this project is very important for our rural community and surrounding areas. This will give our students the opportunity to explore and discover new potential careers that they may not have considered before. We encourage our students to tour multiple colleges before they decide on where they want to continue their education and it should be the same ideology for the careers they wish to pursue. We encourage students to consider many careers, but they are limited to reading or watching videos. The Mobile Technical Education Lab will feature different career options that students will be able to experience. Since they are simulations, students will be more likely to try something they have never had experience with or are otherwise uninterested in. This could potentially change their minds and set them on a new path. I am personally excited for this project and what it will offer for our students. It fits perfectly for what we are trying to do with College and Career Readiness and Career Exploration.
