2 ABOUT THE CONFERENCE Please join us for our first conference on Evidence-Based Care of Traumatic Spinal Cord Injuries. Spine trauma and spinal cord injury (SCI) are unexpected and life-altering events. This program will provide an update on the state of the art of trauma care for all areas of the spinal column, from the cranio-cervical junction to lumbar-pelvic region. This course will enhance the recognition of key injury variables and also provide updates on spinal cord injury management and rehabilitation and latest techniques in spine fracture treatment. This course will include lectures from a faculty of experts, including nationally recognized surgeons, Alex Vaccaro, MD, PhD from the Rothman Institute and James Harrop, MD, both with Thomas Jefferson University. This health care provider driven conference is designed to empower the learner to incorporate evidence-based practice while providing excellence in care for spine trauma and SCI patients. This full-day course is designed for all disciplines and clinicians involved in spine trauma and SCI including physicians, nurses, physical, speech, and occupational therapists, social workers, and emergency medical personnel interested in the latest advances and trends in spine trauma and spinal cord injury treatment and rehabilitation. Discuss evidence-based practices in treatment and management of spine trauma and SCI, including: The polytrauma patient Surgical intervention, timing and use of clinical pathways Medical treatment options 3. Identify major potential complications of acute SCI, including post-traumatic spinal deformities, and formulate a plan to manage complications 4. Discuss prognosis for recovery and rehabilitation goals based on the ASIA (American Spinal Injury Association) impairment scale and level of injury 5. Describe the clinical decision-making of rehabilitation plan of care while managing active medical conditions and complications associated with SCI
