2 Description According to NC DHHS, more than 12,000 North Carolinians died from opioid-related overdoses from 1999 through The opioid epidemic is devastating to families and to communities. This learning activity examines the magnitude of the epidemic, the unique challenges it brings eastern North Carolina communities and the new level of community partnerships and collaboration necessary to fight this crisis. Who Should Attend? This conference is specifically designed for physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, law enforcement, judiciary, public health, school personnel, care coordinators, pastoral care, mental health professionals including psychologists, social workers, marriage and family therapists, licensed professional counselors and others touched by the opioid crisis. Course Objectives Upon completion of this knowledge-based program the participant should be able to integrate into practice new developments in the following areas: Describe the magnitude of the opioid crisis in eastern North Carolina. Discuss the opioid crisis especially in the rural communities. Discuss acute pain and the NC STOP ACT. Discuss new thinking around Chronic Pain Treatment. Identify strategies used in communities to address the opioid crisis. Describe three innovative harm reduction initiatives. Discuss the role of mobile crisis management for people with substance abuse issues who are in crisis. Substance Abuse Counselor Certification (SAC) Application has been made to the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board for 6.0 hours of Substance Abuse Specific hours. Category A-NC Psychology Credit This program will provide 6.0 contact hours of (Category A) continuing education for North Carolina psychologists. No partial credit will be given. Other Professionals EAHEC Contact Hours: Certificates reflecting 6.0 contact hours of education will be awarded upon completion of the evaluation. 5 Cancellation Policy To be eligible for a refund, cancellations MUST be ed to easternahec@ecu.edu at least one week in advance of the activity. No refunds will be given for cancellations less than one week prior to activity. For continuing professional development activities canceled more than one week prior to continuing professional development activity, o A $35.00 cancellation fee will be deducted from the refund, OR o The registrant may elect to apply the full amount toward a future Eastern AHEC continuing professional development activity being held within one year, OR Substitutions are welcome; advance notification encouraged.
