A Message from the Executive Director The Arizona Transportation Builders Association (ATB) is a nonprofit organization consisting of more than 100 individual businesses in Southern Arizona. ATB represents both residential and commercial general contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers, architects, engineers, construction industry service providers and public agencies. We organized in 1984 to positively impact issues facing our membership. Our non-profit association encompasses the full range of stakeholders in the construction industry while working together to provide high-quality products and services that enhance the region s planning, growth and development. Southern Arizona is one of the fastest growing places in America, and with the growth, comes the need to build infrastructure. Being an ATB Member is a terrific choice if you are in search of: Government Affairs/Legislative report Industry Networking Safety Training Promoting your business Education opportunities We maintain a close working relationship with elected officials to further share the concerns of our industry. In addition, we continue to be a strong proponent of local, state, and federal legislation that brings funding to the infrastructure construction industry. We also encourage your participation in our various committees and fundraising events. We feel that with your involvement in ATB, we WILL provide you and your company with excellent business resources. Very truly yours, B.J. Cordova Executive Director 2

TESTIMONIALS I want to personally express my gratitude to ATB, its leadership, and membership, for being an early supporter of Proposition 409, which is allowing the City, to provide $100 million of major arterial and street improvements to the citizens of Tucson. When others doubted, the leadership of ATB stood up, did the right thing, helped formulate some of the significant strategies that led to the Proposition's success, like the creation of the Citizen Oversight Committee, and changed the dialogue in our City. The vote was close and without ATB's support, I do not know that we would have crossed the finish line. Again, thank you." - Mayor Jonathan Rothschild, Tucson ATB has a long running history of building relationships between the public/private sectors throughout its history and continues to be a pillar in our community. The success of the association is really driven by the leadership and continuity of the organization since it is comprised of volunteers from great companies that understand the industry. One way to identify ATB as a leader in Tucson is that municipal leaders will regularly reach out to the Executive Director and request information on proposed changes; whether they are technical or political. Although the association has been around for 30+ years, the success is the ability to maintain relevance within the community and industry to be a sounding board for contractors, associates and municipal members to learn and succeed together. - Fred Narcaroti, Ninyo & Moore I greatly appreciate the role ATB plays in regional transportation issues. A safe, efficient and costeffective transportation network is essential to our region s growth and prosperity. ATB s leadership and members are actively engaged in the issues that affect both our industry, and the regional economy. ATB is continuing advocacy for the RTA, and its efforts to increase awareness of the growing transportation-funding gap are particularly valuable. ATB and its members can always be counted on to assist us in our mutual efforts to improve the quality and cost effectiveness of the infrastructure improvements our community depends upon. Jim DeGrood, Regional Transportation Authority 6
HISTORY Arizona Transportation Builders Association was founded in 1984, originally known as Tucson Underground Contractors Association. The organization represented local contractors only and was started by Ed Snell at Tricon, Ben Luster at Luster Contracting, Gordon Nelson at Nelson Pipeline, and Lucky Hurford at SAECO. Years following, the association changed its name to Tucson Utility Contractors Association in the mid-1990s to reflect and expand service offerings. Originally, a provider for underground contractors and their suppliers, then the association expanded when it began providing and promoting the general interest of utility companies. As the association expertise grew in both the underground and supplier industries, attention grew more common with utility businesses, thus the membership roster grew. TUCA made it possible to review problems in the industry. The assistance of not just the contractors was the driving force to keep the association going. I often tell people that we were part of a great association, and I got to work with many other like-minded professionals of our industry. It s very gratifying to help our industry succeed and to play a role in their growth and development, said founder Lucky Hurford. Since then, TUCA was involved in many various beneficial accomplishments for both the industry and community. In 2006, TUCA worked to help pass the Regional Transportation Authority and led to secure the funding for the modern streetcar. Recently, in 2012 the association also assisted in the passage for Proposition 409. Both these milestones will generate over one billion dollars for expanding and maintaining our roads. Through the support of the membership, TUCA had streamlined procurement processes and continue to work closely with local agencies on the topic. Our success had largely been the by-product of our ability to bring added value to our members, Chris Rogers, past President, an employee of Granite. Our motto has always been we can assist with that. Moreover, Rogers added that the attitude coupled with continuous investments in membership and the industry has allowed us to build a rather unique association that others have not been able to emulate. In 2014, TUCA amended its name to be the Arizona Transportation Builders Association (ATB) and is still a nonprofit organization consisting of more than 100 individual businesses serving the transportation and utility construction and maintenance sector in Southern Arizona. ATB represents both residential and commercial general contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers, architects, engineers, construction industry service providers and public agencies. The association maintains the structure from 1984 and celebrates more than three decades of service to its membership and the greater region. 7

ANNUAL EVENTS Auction The Auction is ATB s biggest and brightest event. This is when members come together to celebrate and kick off the holidays. Taking place mid-fall, the Auction offers a wonderful dinner followed by a live and silent auction. ATB s Auction is also the biggest fundraiser that supports the programs of ATB for the following year. Golf Tournament In sunny Tucson, golf tournaments are as common as mesquite trees. However, the meal, raffles, awards and festivities are what makes the ATB Golf Tournament unique. This event takes place every late spring and some of the proceeds assist our ATB Scholarship Foundation. Installation Dinner Each year ATB recognizes and celebrates the success and contributions of our membership and leaders that have made a difference in our community. The categories honored are Ditch Digger of the Year, Associate Member of the Year, Agency Member of the Year, and Ben Patton Luster Safety Award. It is held each January. Membership Dinners The incredible growth and development in Tucson has seen during the last ten years has created a viable environment for construction while increasing the quality of life for its residents. This event provides an opportunity for ATB membership to continue to communicate with one another while educating them on key issues facing our industry. This great event is held three or four times each year. 13
Networking Mixers Networking Mixers occur on approximately a quarterly basis and is sponsored by a member company, hosted at a local establishment chosen by the sponsor. More than 70 attendees participated at each mixer in This is a great way to meet our members. Scholarship Foundation The ATB Educational Foundation Committee awards scholarships each year; and depending on the year, it can be awarded to four different students. ATB values education and the future of our children. The ATB Educational Scholarship Foundation was formed to encourage and support graduating high school students and individuals seeking continuing education. Events sponsored by ATB help expand the Foundation's endowment fund. For more information about this specific award, visit the ATB website. Southern Arizona Construction Career Days Students in Southern Arizona will have the opportunity to explore careers in the construction industry firsthand! They will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on demonstrations with local construction trades people, learn about heavy equipment, and visit with local construction industry professionals at the career and college booths. This event started as an ATB program, and has since been founded as its own nonprofit organization with ATB and many others continuing to partner. 14
Trap Shoot This is a new event to ATB and it was well attended. This is a great event for the avid shooter or hunter, but so easy to learn if you are a rookie. This event helps the cost associates for our annual volunteer day. This is a half a day event held here locally. Volunteer Day/Community Each year, ATB selects a local organization or community site needing services provided by its Membership. ATB members then provide labor and materials for an area clean up, small paving project, or landscaping upgrades, at no cost to area residents and government agencies.
