To enroll online, go to: Paper enrollment forms are available at the Extension Office. If you have any questions about enrollment, please call the Extension Office or or ACHIEVEMENT BANQUET If you received an invitation to the Achievement Banquet and were unable to attend or pick up your award, the Extension Office may still have it. You may wish to call before you come to make sure your club leader hasn t already picked it up. Thank -you notes can be sent to the Extension Office, (13301 Darmstadt Road, Evansville 47725) and we will send them to the respective sponsors. FESTIVAL OF TREES Thanks to all the 4-H clubs and Extension Homemaker clubs for participating in the 4-H Center Winter Carnival s Festival of Trees. There were 24 beautiful trees adorning the SIAM building during the holiday season. A total of $ was collected for the 4-H Center. 1st place People s Choice 4-H: Green River Greenies 4-H club $11.52 Other participating 4-H clubs: St Wendel All-Star Clovers, Jr Leaders, Livestock club, Perry M&M s, Energetics, Centerrific, Dog, Tech, Scott Achievers, Star, Armstrong Hi-Lighters, and German Gems 1st place People s Choice Extension Homemaker: Inglefield Extension Homemakers club $51.39 CANCELLATI ON POLICY It is the policy of the 4-H program that if school has been cancelled or released early, all 4-H events are also cancelled. County activity cancellations will be posted on the Vanderburgh County 4-H Program Facebook page. PROJECT CHANGES The following projects have requirement changes that will be listed in the H Handbook. The Handbook will be available online soon. State Level Changes: Aerospacre, Arts,and Crafts, Electric, Computer, Genealogy, Shooting Sports, Small Engines, Models and Wildlife. County Level Changes: Collections, Corn Science, Creating with a Mix, Pets, and Veterinary Science.

2 REQUIRED LIVESTOCK WORKSHOPS In order to participate in the Livestock Auction at the Vanderburgh County Fair, members MUST attend 2 Livestock Workshops prior to the fair. Information will be ed regarding upcoming workshops pertaining to your species. They are also listed on the 4-H Calendar. Attending a workshop on any species will be counted. Please call Randy Brown at the Extension office, , with any questions you may have. JUDGING CONTESTS Congratulations to the following 4-H ers who participated in the Area Entomology Judging Contest. CLUB NEWS German Gems met on October 11, Elizabeth Shinabarger called the meeting to order at 5:26 p.m. The meeting was suspended at 5:45 p.m. and resumed at 6:00 p.m. Alena Martin gave roll call and 14 members were present. We also had two visitors. Alena Martin gave the Secretary s report. Mary Bender made a motion and Jonathan Temme seconded it. There was no Treasurer s report or Health and Safety report. For old business, the current value of the Gala Basket is $140. Silas Temme made a motion and Mary Bender seconded it that the club provide the $60 to make the basket worth $200. For new business, Madelyn Derringe made a motion and Silas Temme seconded it that the club donate $55 to Goebel Farms for the use of their facilities October s meeting. Mary Bender made a motion and Madelyn Derringe seconded it that the club donate $115 to the 4-H Center for the use of their facilities for the club s monthly meeting. Club members discussed ideas for the Club Christmas Tree. Mrs. Weinzapfel will send the various ideas out in an for a vote. For Announcements, those who obtained a donation for the Gala basket are asked to bring a Thank You note to November s meeting for all the members to sign. 4-H sign-up opened October 1st and will close January 15th. The Achievement Banquet will be held on Friday, November 18th. The 4-H Gala is on November 5th. The club Christmas tree set up will be the Saturday after Thanksgiving and takedown is January 7th. Those who have unused project manuals are asked to return them to the Extension Office. Those nominated for an office were: Lois Temme- Treasurer, Silas Temme- Vice President, Alena Martin- Secretary, and Alaina & Brady Andrecht- Recreation. Elections will be held at the November meeting. There were no demonstrations or project awareness speeches. 4 The last German Gems meeting was on November 8, Elizabeth Shinabarger called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. Alaina Andrecht led the American pledge and Brady Andrecht led the 4-H pledge. Sixteen members and one new member were present. Alena Martin gave the Secretary s Report. Haley Dilger made a motion and Luke Dilger seconded it and the minutes were approved as read. Stephanie Sleziak gave the Treasurer s Report with a balance of $ Dawson Maurer made a motion and Mary Bender seconded it and the report was approved as read. New business was elections. German Gem s new officers are: Photographer- Madelyn Derringe Historian- Tierney Maurer Recreation- Dawson Maurer & Jude Bender/ Alaina & Brady Andrecht/ and Haley & Luke Dilger Secretary- Alena Martin Vice- President- Silas Temme Treasurer- Lois Temme For project awareness: Mary Bender told about her photography poster. Jude Bender told about his photography poster. Alaina Andrecht explained her Child Development poster. For demonstrations: Mary Bender told members how to edit pictures. Jude Bender informed members of basic gun safety. Alaina Andrechet showed how to make coasters our of popsicle sticks. Sarah Sleziak adjourned the meeting at 6:15 p.m. Members enjoyed pizza and cookies for refreshment. Submitted by Alena Martin On December 11th, 2016 the Scott Achievers had a family dinner and everybody brought food and we had a huge feast. We played Christmas bingo and people got fun prizes if they won the Bingo game. We brought gifts and supplies for the family we adopted and wrapped them. We also exchanged ornaments as a story was being told. And then when the story was over the person got the ornament they were holding. It can be found also be found on 4hOnline and will be found in the Handbook FAIR DATES Vanderburgh County Fair July 24 - July 29, 2017 Indiana State Fair August 4 - August 20, H COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT 2017 Summer Staff We are now taking applications for the 2017 Summer Staff. Applicants must be out of 4-H and be available from May 22-August 4. If you know of anyone that might be interested please let them know about this opportunity. If you have any questions don't hesitate to call the Extension office. Applications can be found on our website under the youth tab under forms. USE OF T HE 4 -H CL OVE R Supper with Santa Activities. Did you know that the 4-H clover is a federally protected symbol? It has the same level of protection as the Presidential Seal! If your club is planning on creating a Tee shirt, sign, or any other 4-H promotional materials, you must have the design approved by Randy Brown, 4-H Youth Development Extension Educator. Some items have to be approved by the State 4-H office. Did you know that 4-H is only one aspect of Purdue Extension? The mission of the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service is the education of Indiana citizens through application of the land-grant university research and knowledge base for the benefit of agriculture, youth, families, and communities. Purdue Extension program are Agriculture and Natural Resources, Health and Human Sciences, Economic and Community Development, and 4-H Youth Development. These program areas include the categories of environmental stewardship, competitive and sustainable agriculture, consumer and professional horticulture, strong families and communities, food safety, nutrition, economic and community development and youth among others. In Vanderburgh County, we currently have two Extension Educators: Randy Brown, 4-H Youth Development; and Larry Caplan, Horticulture. Our Educators spend their time working with the citizens of Vanderburgh County to improve lives, families, and the community as a whole. They teach classes, give workshops and presentations, visit homes, and much more. In addition to the 4-H Program, Vanderburgh County also has an Extension Homemaker program and a Master Gardener program. The Extension Homemakers purpose is to strengthen families through continuing education, leadership development, and volunteer community support.
