Allain Franklin Library October 27th, 2018 Saturday, 10:00 A.M. 12:00 P.M. The American Advocacy Program will assist veterans and their families in understanding their rights. Learn more about receiving the benefits you were promised without having to wait for an appointment. Become educated on PTSD and other diseases associated with Agent Orange as well as many other topics of interest. This program is open to the public. For more information please contact Johnny Smith at or the Franklin Library at LIBRARY CLOSING All branches of the St. Mary Parish Library System will be closed on Friday, October 19th for Staff Training Day. Regular hours will resume on Saturday, October 20th.
2 AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES: AMELIA BRANCH *Do you have a child 9-24 months? Do they enjoy making new friends, exploring, and creating through play? Then our mommy and me exploration program is for you. Join us on Thursday, October 18th at 10:00 A.M. Develop better motor skills using your senses. *Do you want to learn to make slime? Join our Slime Lab on Tuesday, October 23rd at 4:00 P.M. and learn to make our featured GLOW in the Dark slime. We will be featuring a new slime next month so be on the lookout! BAYOU VISTA BRANCH *Bedtime Story Hour is back! When: The first Monday of each month. October 1st will be the first one! Time: 6:00 P.M. Calling all littles to come wearing your jammies and slippers with your blanket and favorite stuffed animal. Join us for bedtime stories, songs, and participate in making a fun take-home craft. A sleepy time snack (milk & cookies) will be furnished. Although this hour is geared to entertain the littles, all ages are welcome. A separate story hour area will be provided, for BIG sister or brother, in order to make this a family event. *What's ooey and gooey? Sticky and icky? You ll have to come to the gross games on Friday, October 26th at 4:00 P.M. to find out! *Come one, come all! Its time to make some crafts for fall! What better way to start fall off than making a corn cob wreath with us on Monday, October 29th at 4:00 P.M. BERWICK BRANCH *Come make crazy, spooky, box spiders! Don t be square, be there on Tuesday, October 16th at 3:30 P.M. *Come let your crafty light shine on Friday, October 26th at 3:30 P.M. Sixth grade and up are invited to create a fall lantern from recycled bottles. *Calling all Ghouls, Ghosts, and Goblins! Got a little extra blood on your fangs? Looking more glamorous and gruesome this fall season? Shake off those spider webs and come on down for our Halloween costume contest! When: Tuesday, October 23rd, 2018 Time: 4:00 P.M. CENTERVILLE BRANCH *Fire Safety can save a life, even yours! Participate in our Fire Safety Program with our local Fire Department on Friday, October 12, 2018 at 3:15 P.M. They will be presenting various techniques to prevent fires and to safely navigate from them, join us for an educational yet fun program! Don t forget, Fire Safety starts with you! *Area Nutrition Agent - Jessica Randazzo of the LSU Ag Center returns on Wednesday, October 17, at 3:15 P.M. for one peacefully invigorating All Age presentation. There's no need for YOGA mats- all you'll need is your body! For those growling stomachs, don't worry! This Nutrition Agent comes prepared with healthy, tasty treats! *Hallow's Eve cackles at your door! Ghouls and Bogeymen are ready to find out what's in store. Our trick or treats will drive you batty at our Spooktackular Pumpkin Decoration Party on Wednesday, October 24 at 3:30 P.M. Participants are required to bring their own pumpkins to this fangtastic Halloween event. Page 2 Registration is preferred due to limited space and supplies. 3 AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES: FRANKLIN BRANCH *Stop, Drop, and Roll to the Franklin Library! Join us on Thursday, October 4th at 4:30 P.M. All ages are invited to attend. The Franklin Fire Department will present the importance of fire safety in your home. The fire truck will be on hand. Chili Fritos will be served. *Come and see us for a spooky crafternoon of fun! We will create puffy ghosts, a spider craft, and paper plate pumpkins. All ages are invited to join us on Tuesday, October 16th at 4:30 P.M. PATTERSON BRANCH *These little pumpkins can t be pulled from the pumpkin patch, but you can join us to make your own using brightly colored pony beads! These pumpkins are the perfect size to add to any Fall decorations. The program will be held at the Patterson Branch on Thursday, October 4th at 4:00 P.M. Participation is free of charge and open to those in 1st grade and up. *Join us for a spooktacular Halloween party on Tuesday, October 30th at 4:30 P.M. All ages are invited to wear costumes. There will be spooky snacks and prizes to be won. WEST END BRANCH *Join us on Thursday, October 11th at 4:30 P.M. and make some super cool Halloween decorations and drawstring bags! *Join us for our 1st Annual Halloween Costume Contest! Show us your scariest, funniest or craziest costume on Tuesday, October 23rd at 4:30 P.M. Prizes will be awarded! *Come & visit our Haunted Alley on Wednesday, October 31st from 4:30 to 6:00 P.M. Stop by for some candy and some fun! Haunting provided by our Teen Advisory Board. Don t miss it! Any child who can read a bingo card, or who has help, is invited to attend. Participation in Word Bingo is free and open to the public. All winners will receive a prize. Amelia Branch: Friday, October 5th at 2:00 P.M. Bayou Vista Branch: Thursday, October 11th at 3:30 P.M. 4 ADULT PROGRAMS: AMELIA BRANCH BREAST CANCER AWARENESS Jessica Randazzo from the LSU Ag Center will be hosting a program for Adults on Friday, October 12th at 4:00 P.M. Breast Cancer Awareness. The program will be centered on the importance of early detection, proper nutrition, and the importance of a good support system. WEST END BRANCH ALCOHOL INK TILE PAINTING Join us on Monday, October 8th at 10:00 A.M. for another round of fascinating ink painting! Create beautiful tiles for gifts or for yourself! This is an adult only program and you are required to sign up. Please call or stop by the library to attend. TODDLER TIME Are you looking for something educational and fun for your month old? Parents, Grandparents, and caregivers are invited to bring your little ones to your local library for Toddler Time. They will be exposed to different topics by story, interactive songs, crafts, and sometimes even a tasty snack!
