Wouldn t it be fun for all of us to combine the great outdoors with physical activity? Our beautiful grounds offer many paths to follow while breathing in fresh air. Weather permitting, let s begin to go outside for some short movement sessions. The pond offers sights and sounds of Spring and is surrounded with a great walking path and benches. The gazebo is a short trek and a quiet place to sit and view nature. Our walks can start out short and sweet, but still be very effective for mood enhancement and change of routine. Meet on April 10:30 a.m. in the Library. National Volunteer Week April 10-16, 2016 This week is about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to seek out imaginative ways to engage in their communities. It is about demonstrating to the nation that by working together, we have the fortitude to meet and accomplish our goals. Through their services, volunteers make an extraordinary impact offering hope, making sacrifices to lift up the people around them as well as those they have never met. As they do, volunteers give new life to the values that bind us together as Americans. Volunteer recognition is a way to say thank you to those who make a difference in our community. Our community is a better place because of the efforts of volunteers. Heartfelt appreciation goes out to the generous people among us who give from their hearts. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Tim Wilsey Presents: Friday, April 8, 10:30 a.m. in the Community Room Princess Diana- Tim will present a look at a woman who captivated the world by her marriage, actions, dedication and grace and the tragic accident that shocked the world and changed the future. Beautiful Spring Blossoms Freshly blooming flowers are one of the sure signs of spring. Breathe in the beauty of these seasonal favorites: Tulip. A classic symbol of spring, tulips are native to Central Asia but are now commonly associated with the Netherlands. Tulips are available in nearly every color of the rainbow. Daffodil. Commonly called narcissus, which is the botanical genus that also includes jonquils and paperwhites, the trumpet-shaped daffodil is most popularly available in yellow shades, but they can also be white, orange, pink or two-toned. Crocus. In some parts of the country, certain varieties of crocus peek up out of the snow to signal the arrival of spring. Their cup-shaped blossoms are typically yellow, white or purple. Pansy. This annual is one of the best flowers to plant in early spring containers, since they bloom best in cooler weather. Common colors include yellow, purple and blue, and the smiling centers of two-toned varieties are cheerful choices for the changing seasons. Hyacinth. There s no mistaking the intense, sweet fragrance of this flower, which has tiny star-shaped blooms that grow in a bell-shaped cluster along a single stem. Colors range from white and pale pink to deep indigo. Chris Colletti Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. in the Community Room The energetic, versatile, powerful singer and entertainer, Chris Colletti will be here again. Since he broke into the entertainment scene more than twenty years ago, the Chicago native has done it all! From musical theatre productions to restaurants and lounges, from intimate concerts to outdoor festivals, from conventions and trade shows to corporate and charity events, he has brought his love of music to audiences everywhere. His fresh approach to the music of the Big Band Era leaves his audience in awe. Whether he croons Time After Time, or belts out New York, New York, he offers that elusive quality of class. Chris has appeared on major cruise lines and has been featured in musical theatre productions. He will take you on a journey back to a sweeter time, a simpler time...a time when a song and its lyrics really meant something. Come and hear for yourself!

6 7 Green Thumb Garden Club Tomatoes, peas, and peppers, pumpkins, squash, and corn...can you envision the colors of your garden? Our Green Thumb Club is meeting on Tuesday, April 19th, at 2:30 p.m. in the Arts and Crafts Room. All residents who enjoy playing in the dirt should attend! We will talk about the Cedarlake gardens, we will be identifying some plants, and choosing plots for the season. Please bring your ideas and gardening tips. Red Hat Ladies Meeting All ladies are welcome! Our Red Hat Ladies meeting will be on Tuesday, April 26th, at 2:30 p.m. in the Community Room. Wear your purple and red and you will be in the raffle drawing! Games, crafts, and refreshments are always a part of our get-togethers! Ballpark Highlights They have been called shrines, cathedrals, temples and monuments. Some Major League Baseball stadiums are as iconic as the sport itself, and each one has its unique features. Here are some that make game days even more memorable. Wrigley Field. The Chicago Cubs century-old home is full of nostalgic features, and one of the most famous is the ivy that covers the brick walls of the outfield. It was planted in 1937 and grows so thick, baseballs get lost in it. Fenway Park. Standing 37 feet high and stretching across the left field of the nation s oldest MLB stadium is the fabled Green Monster, a fence that got its name when it was painted in Boston Red Sox fans can now watch the game from seats atop it. AT&T Park. The Giants ballpark sports views of the San Francisco Bay. The water is so close that fans can boat and kayak in a cove just off right field in hopes of catching home runs, or splash hits. Chase Field. The Arizona Diamondbacks make their home in the desert city of Phoenix, so it s fitting their stadium has a seating section with a swimming pool and a lifeguard. Tropicana Field. A first for a sports venue, the Tampa Bay Rays have their namesake mascot swimming alongside them in a 10,000-gallon tank in right field. Fans can even touch and feed the 30 cownose rays. Safeco Field. Because of the city s rainy weather, Seattle Mariners fans are used to umbrellas, and its ballfield is outfitted with one, too a retractable roof. 7 April 2016 Let s Welcome Alice Holm! Alice was born in Kankakee, Illinois to Toni and Oliver Duval. She grew up and attended school in Herscher, Illinois, about twenty minutes from Kankakee. Alice has two brothers, an older brother, Bob, and a younger brother, George. As they say, she is the rose between two thorns! After graduating from high school, her advisors recommended that she work at the local bank. She was eighteen years old when she learned the bookkeeping position there. Alice worked with a cashier and another bookkeeper at this bank for twenty years! Alice met her husband of twenty years on a blind date! They had three children, Michael, Jim, and Mary Beth. Alice met her second husband, Charles, and celebrated over twenty years of marriage. She has twin step-daughters, Cindy and Alicia, and a step-son named, Jim. Alice also has many grandchildren in her life. She is grandmother to four granddaughters and three grandsons. Alice has traveled to Hawaii and loved seeing many of the islands in Paradise. She has made trips to Ireland and enjoyed the beauty and fun of the music and dancing! Her favorite words of wisdom are, Go with the flow and, Don t sweat the small stuff. Alice moved to American House Cedarlake last December. She is still getting settled in but says she likes living here. Take time to enjoy all the changes in our terrific community.
