Cedarlake s rummage sale is about to take place and everyone can spring into action in cleaning up for the warmer months ahead. Study results demonstrate that drumming is a valuable treatment for fatigue, anxiety and asthma. Drumming promotes the production of endorphins which can help in the control of chronic pain. Richard was born in Chicago to Richard and Elsie. He is one of five children, having three brothers and one sister. Richard lived in Chicago until 1945 where, at the age of 18, he was drafted and served in WWII until He married his high school sweetheart, Betty Jane Pedeny, when he returned. They celebrated fifty-five years of marriage and raised a son and a daughter. Richard was a brick-layer for twelve years then decided to return to school at Purdue College to learn metallurgy. Hired by Inland Steel, he had a thirty year career, retiring in Richard s favorite thing to work on was stone work for fireplaces and walls. He states, You can t make a picture without a frame. Richard and Betty Jane moved to Florida and built a home that was thirty feet from the water where he was able to fish every day! He also enjoyed hunting and golf. His love of train travel took him and his wife across Canada through the Canadian Rockies. One of his favorite trips was their 25th wedding anniversary celebration in Hawaii. They enjoyed the islands so much that they visited Paradise two more times. Richard moved to Cedarlake last September from Florida to be close to family. (Three granddaughters and two great-granddaughters!) He enjoys living here because the staff and residents are so friendly.
