1 Community Weekly August 4, 2017 We had our Collette Travels meeting and have chosen for June 2020 the Classic Danube River Cruise with Oberammergau s passion play featuring Budapest, Vienna, Wachau Valley, Linz and Passau. Pricing will be available this coming September. Please let Sharon know if you are interested by calling Ext It will be a trip of a lifetime! Join us on August 9th for our Corn Roast! This year we are trying something different. We will have the Roast during lunch time starting at 11:30 a.m. in the Kresge Dining Room. Cottagers can purchase their meal tickets at the Reception Desk and join us at this new time. We will have entertainment, a great menu, and, of course, all the Indiana roasted corn you can eat -- mark your calendars!: BBQ Chicken or Cold Cut Sandwiches Corn on the Cob Candied Butternut Squash Apple Crisp with Ice Cream Franklin Community Band performs on August 10 th at 7:15 p.m. in the Community Center! Don t miss them! Mark your calendars! Lew White will be here for sure August 24 th at 2:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall to present two trips for us. The first trip is our Staycation next January to Ft. Myers Beach. Those of you who have traveled with us before know what a wonderful trip that is, and it is always the last week of January, a great time to get away! The next trip he will present is the long awaited Canadian Rockies trip next September. Please come for all information and bring your questions. Be a part of our STITCH-IN workshop making clothing protectors, walker bags, and lap robes for Health Center residents on August 11th from 9:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. in the Art Studio. Refreshments will be available. Come for a short time or all day. Bring your scissors. All sewing supplies are provided. FUMC will host a furniture sale Friday, August 18th from 7:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. AUGUST ADVENTURES August Joyrides are on Mondays: the 7th at 1:45 p.m. and the 21st at 1:15 p.m. Our August Day Trip is to the Indiana State Fair. We depart at 11:30 a.m. if we get ten fairgoers to sign up on Tuesday, August 15th. Cost for the bus is $15.00 and the Fair tickets are $2.00. Please note this change! Fair food is on your own there with $2.00 specials. Enjoy a few hours at the Fair! August s Luncheon Trip is the 23rd at MCL Cafeteria on Route. 31. Transportation will cost $7.00 with lunch on your own there. We need ten to adventure! Red Hat Society enjoys McAlister s on State Road 135 on august 18th. We depart at 11:15 a.m. ROMEOs, Juliet had to make a decision as the restaurant you gentlemen chose does not serve breakfast so on August 21st we re off to Flap Jack s on State Road 135 at 7:30 a.m. Transportation will cost $5.00 with breakfast on your own there! August concerts include the wonderful Franklin Community Band performing on the 10th at 7:15 p.m.in our Community Center, then on the 14th at 6:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall the Summer Singers are here. Tom Wright returns on the 25th for another wonderful performance so mark these dates on your calendar and don t miss all the beautiful music! August 16th is the Birthday Luncheon. If you have an August Birthday and did not receive an invitation, please call Sharon at Ext Hard to believe but the Labor Day Cookout will be on Thursday, August 31st at 4:30 p.m. on the Veranda if weather permits or in the Community Center if not. We will have the same wonderful menu we had at the Memorial Day Cookout. Those of you who missed it ( and there were a lot of you), we had delicious hamburgers, brats, cheeseburgers, bake beans, potato salad, and cookies and brownies. The food was delicious and plenty of it, so please mark your calendars for a wonderful cookout to end summer! Sign up for these excursions and pay trip fees at our Concierge Desk!
4 COMMUNITY WELCOMES NEW RESIDENT Elizabeth Beckman is the new resident at 1130 Wren Drive (phone ext. 1549). She recently moved to Franklin United Methodist Community from Morgantown, Indiana. Betsy enjoys biking, cooking, walking, reading and her grand and great grandchildren. She formerly was a school teacher and respiratory therapist. Betsy says she is happy to be here; everyone is so friendly. Greet her, welcome her to the community and add her to your directory. FUMC s next Game Night will be Thursday, August 17th, in the Club House beginning at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome. Also we welcome games you would like to play, so find the old or new favorite and bring it along, and we will select from those. If you have questions call Paul Nugent or Alice Christopher at Ext Have fun and get acquainted with some new members of the Community. PRAYER GATHERING Grace United Methodist Church will sponsor a prayer gathering on Tuesday, August 8th in the Fireside Lounge at 12:30 p.m.. The meeting is open to all interested persons. If you cannot come and have a prayer concern please give it to Sherrill Clark or Paul Nugent. SEPTEMBER SOJOURNS Joyrides in September are Mondays: the 11 th at 1:45 p.m. ( to make up for Labor Day) and September 18 th at 1:15 p.m. on the Silver Belle bus. September s day trip will be on the 7 th to the Artcraft Theater. The Swartz Family Community Mortuary has generously supplied us with free tickets to the movie North by Northwest. We will depart at 1:15 p.m. Cost for the bus is $1.00 but popcorn is on your own there! We only have so many free tickets so sign up now! Wednesday, September 13 th at 11:00 a.m. will find us heading to the Brown County Inn in Nashville if we get ten hungry people for lunch there. Cost for the bus is $9.00 with lunch on your own there. Sign up for these excursions and pay trip fees at our Concierge Desk in Wesley Center Lobby ACTTIVITY FUN AT FUMC Red Hat Society meets Thursday, September 14 th at noon with ROMEOs gathering on the 18 th at 8:00 a.m. Both groups will dine in our Kresge Dining Room for September! 5 FUMC will participate in Fast Track: a program offered by United Way of Johnson County which outfits children with school supplies through August 18th. The following will be collected: Back Packs Markers Eraser Folders Three-ring Binders Spiral Notebooks Scissors Rulers Loose Leaf Paper Dry Erase Markers Highlighters Pencils Ear Buds Color Pencils Pens: Blue, Black and Red Ink Calculators All donations can be dropped off at the Concierge Desk where baskets will be placed to accept these needed items! UNUSED SEWING MACHINES Is your sewing machine gathering dust or filling space in your closet? Put it to use by donating it to the Stitchers group that make items for the Health Center. We can put your machine to use at our workshops and make it available to you and others by keeping it in the Wesley Center Laundry Room. If you have a machine to donate, call Grace at Building Services, Ext. 1115, and she will arrange to have it picked up and delivered. Cottagers can use this service also. If the machine is in a cabinet, we can accept the cabinet also. Karen Vaughn, Stitchers Organizer August is heating up -- with activities, that is! Check out this summer fun: Volunteers are needed to work the desk at FUMC s Library any day of the week, but especially Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays. We also need helpers to transport books from the French Café to the Franklin- Johnson County Public Library. Contact Ext if you can help. Summer Singers all fifty-five of them perform a concert Monday, August 14th at 6:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Don t miss this one! Our Watermelon Feast will be Friday, August 18 th from 2:00-3:00 p.m. in the Community Center. Come and eat some watermelon!
