With the hustle and bustle of spring in full swing, it s hard to believe it is already May! This month, residents and guests have much to celebrate in the community. We will kick things off with a celebratory Cinco De Mayo Luncheon in Josephine s Kitchen on Saturday, May th. Chef has prepared a Mexican Cuisine inspired menu sure to delight all who attend! Next, we will be celebrating all things Mother s Day! ur first annual Mother s Day Luncheon will occur on Sunday, May th, in Josephine s Kitchen. e sure to RSVP, you won t want to miss it! Finally, we will wrap up the month of May with a big ANK YU to all our residents and families! Celebrate Memorial Day with elmont Village on the courtyard, under the sun for our FIRST Family Appreciation Party. Monday, May th, Chef is breaking out the Q and the music will be lively. May th - May th We take pride in the fact that the public has rated nursing as the most honest and ethical profession for the past years. ur commitment to protecting, promoting, and improving health care for all is well recognized and we serve the public in a wide range of roles and work settings. Therefore, it is only fitting that we take one week each year to celebrate our profession and the vital roles nurses play in health care. National Nurses Week begins on May th and ends on May th, Florence Nightingale s birthday. This week of events across the U.S. honors nurses for the work they do and educates the public about the nurse s role in health care. The first nurse was Florence Nightingale; in 0, she started the first nursing school at St. Thomas hospital in London and laid the foundation for modern nursing. We now have over. million nurses in the U.S., many serving in various different ways: Army nurses that care for our military, Red Cross nurses are called upon during disasters, nurses that choose to serve our elderly population, pediatrics, public health, and let us not forget those working in our hospitals. Nursing is a hour/ day a week job, holidays and weekends are not in a nurse s vocabulary. Nursing for us is not just a job, but a calling, to care for those in need anytime and anywhere.
