2 SKIMMERS- JULIE QUINN, THURSDAY, SEPT 29 8:30AM- 10:30AM Julie Quinn will discuss the threats posed by credit card skimmers on pay-at-the-pump card readers and what you can do to protect yourself and your business. Topics covered include how to deter installation of skimmers at your station; when to look for skimmers and how to recognize them; how the new chip technology can protect your business as well as your customers; and what to do if you find a skimmer. Julie is the Director of the Minnesota Department of Commerce Weights and Measures Division. She developed this material to train Minnesota Department of Commerce investigators. It has been presented to the Minnesota Petroleum Marketers Association, and the Central Weights & Measures Association, as well as to local Minnesota police departments and businesses. Time will be available for questions: Karen Rowely Audit Manager-Motor Fuels (2016) Karen is a CPA and has worked for the Nebraska Department of Revenue since 1989 (27 years), 25 of those years is in the area of Motor Fuel taxation. Steve Drzaic Revenue Educator, Nebraska Department of Revenue (2016) Steve has worked at the Nebraska Department of Revenue since 1984 (32 years). He has gained tremendous tax knowledge in his tenure there, having worked in many divisions and positions in the Omaha office. M A T T J O NES AFTERNOON SEMINAR, THURSDAY, SEPT 29 1:00PM-3:00PM Matt Jones is known as the Seven Continent Marathon Man. He went from being a three-time cancer conqueror to relearning how to walk, to going through a bone marrow transplant, to completing seven marathons on seven continents and yes that includes Antarctica. Matt was diagnosed with cancer on September 11, After spreading to the fluid in his brain doctors did not think he would live. After victoriously conquering cancer he was told that there has never been anybody go through what he went through and be alive one year later. Baseball Hall of Famer George Brett said, Matt is a true champion and his story inspires others to be a true champion. Matt is the author of numerous books and travels around the world sharing his inspiring story and message. CURT TOMASEVICZ DINNER SPEAKER, THURSDAY, SEPT. 29 6:15PM Curt Tomasevicz grew up in Shelby, Nebraska, a small town of nearly 700 people located a few miles southwest of Columbus. While attending the University of Nebraska, Curt played running back and linebacker, earning most of his playing time on special teams. During his senior year in 2003, he earned first-team academic All-Big 12 honors. Curt holds a Bachelor s and Master s degree in electrical engineering with a minor in Astrophysics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. During his first season ( ), Tomasevicz landed on the World Cup circuit, consistently pushing on the USA II sled. He made his Olympic debut in Torino in 2006, sliding to sixth place in the four-man competition. The entire experience was a memorable one for Tomasevicz. He compared walking in the Opening Ceremony to the excitement of going through the tunnel at Memorial Stadium during his college football years. During the next few years, the U.S. bobsled program began to become an international force, winning numerous World Cup and World Championship medals. But his biggest achievement came in February at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, Canada, when he, Steve Holcomb, Justin Olsen, and Steve Mesler raced the Night Train to the first American four-man Olympic title in 62 years. In February of 2014, Curt participated in his 3rd Olympic games in Sochi, Russia. With a more competitive field, the Night Train 2 team of Curt, Holcomb, Steve Langton, and Chris Fogt battled their way to a bronze medal, making Curt one of only six American bobsledders in history to earn multiple Olympic medals.
