1 For Immediate Release: June 3, 2014 Media Contact: Mike Knight CICF Director of Communications ext. 187 MEDIA ONLY: (CELL) Legacy of Awards $160,000+ To Support Range of s Not-For-Profits Grants will address community-wide needs, including hunger, affordable housing, support for the arts, education more. CARMEL, IN (MAY 27, 2014) Legacy of, an affiliate of the Central Indiana Community Foundation, awarded a total of $162,400 in grants as approved by Legacy s Board of Directors at its May 12 th, 2014 board of directors meeting. The grant awards included $137,400 in grants made to 13 not-for-profits serving residents. The LINK Advisory Council, a youth-based philanthropic council created by Legacy, also awarded $10,000 to three other not-for-profit organizations serving residents. An additional matching grant of $15,000 in partnership with the Convention Visitors Bureau was made to help build capacity at county-based arts organizations (both organizations contributed $15,000 each to support the project). The grants were made possible by Legacy s Community, also The Sheridan the City of, which awarded cityspecific grants. The Donald W. Johnson for Shepherd s Center of, which addresses senior-focused issues, made an additional grant. (PLEASE SEE LIST BELOW FOR COMPLETE GRANT ALLOCATION AND DISTRIBUTION.) The Legacy is an unrestricted fund created by donors with an interest in supporting. The City of was created to focus on -specific issues. The Sheridan was created by the Biddle Memorial Foundation JBS United to address issues specific to the town of Sheridan. The Donald W. Johnson for Shepherd s Center of was created in 2012 to better support the s senior-needs. Grant allocations from the Community are approved by Legacy Board of Directors. Created in 2002 by Legacy to give youth an opportunity to be directly involved in their community to inspire leadership in high school

2 students through service, grantmaking educational opportunities, The LINK Advisory Council made grants to support Second Helpings (a food rescue reuse organization); East Public Library Live the Way, Inc., which supports a community garden program in. Fishers Arts Council completed a strategic plan three years ago but lacked the capacity to operationalize it. With the help of this grant the in-kind CPA skills of a volunteer, Fishers Arts Council will be developing an operations plan fiscal model to operationalize the goals objectives of the strategic plan. Long-term goals include hiring an Executive Director approaching the new City of Fishers for funding following the upcoming election season. A recent collaborators meeting had representation from the three entities above as well as churches, arts associations, the library, Westfield-Washington School Corporation. The collaborative -wide Fishers City of Westfield

5 Nickel Plate Arts TOTAL: $15,000 partnership seeks to offer the full Westfield experience to Gr Park visitors by educating tourists on the history, cultural traditions, religious background, arts influences, other factors that make Westfield unique. Bring marketing of the project will begin this summer a strategic plan for the full project will be completed by the end of the year. With consultant guidance, Nickel Plate Arts is working to develop a fundraising plan.
