1 ROCKFORD SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION Rockford High School 4100 Kroes Street Rockford, MI Rockford Local Scholarship Providers: Blood Drive Scholarship: One $500 award will be given. Seniors who have donated blood or volunteered their service at the RHS Blood Drives are eligible. David Bruce Dykema Memorial: Plan to study pre-med, vet medicine, engineering, or law. GPA 3.0+, positive, constructive attitude; well-rounded, involved, people-oriented; must have overcome adversity. David E. Peck Athletic Scholarship: One $1000 to a senior athlete who demonstrates outstanding sportsmanship, effort, and leadership in athletics. Gateway to Education: Two awards (one male and one female) to seniors that demonstrate kindness to all and solid citizenship in the school and community. Not dependent on academic or athletic successes. $1250 minimum with possible increases tied to community events throughout the year. Glenn Rounds: Seniors in the top 15% after first trimester are selected and notified in February with a letter sent to their homes. Student must demonstrate financial need. A copy of the FAFSA and student aid report may be required to verify need. The number and monetary amount of awards vary. This award may be extended to the second year of college based on academic performance. If eligible, refer to letter for details. Applicant does not need to complete the. Golden R Club (Rockford graduates who have reached their 50th class reunion status): one $1000 award to student demonstrating solid citizenship, service to others, and solid academic record. Hobie Loranger Memorial Scholarship: one award of $500 awarded to a RHS wrestler. James Balk Family: $1000 award to a senior pursuing career in engineering or business administration. Jan Egbert Memorial: One award of $500 to a senior who exemplifies involvement in community service, health/wellness/athletics/spiritual faith and at least a 3.0 GPA. Paula Banfield Memorial Rockford Sports Boosters: Two $500 awards given to one female senior and one male senior. Students must have athletic participation (at least one Varsity letter), team spirit, sportsmanship, citizenship, service to school/community, and academic achievement. Robert Jayson DeGraff Memorial Scholarship: One award at $1500 and one award at $1000 to seniors with a love and passion for architecture and historical buildings whom are seeking a career in architecture and/or business/land development. Preference will be given to seniors that have a solid academic record, are wellrounded with high moral character and faith, are people oriented and exhibit leadership qualities, community involvement and have a positive, constructive attitude. Satisfactory completion of any of the RHS Architectural CAD classes is preferred. Rockford Lions Club: Two $1000 awards will be given to individuals who have exhibited good academic standing while emphasizing exceptional community service(s). 2 Rockford Odyssey of the Mind: A $500 award will be given to an RHS Senior. Student must have participated in OM for at least two years and given back to the program for at least one year. A few examples of giving back would be mentoring, co-coaching, and helping with spontaneous nights. Ruth Streeter Memorial (past RPS teacher and principal): One award of $500 given to academically solid student of high moral character. Future teaching career preferred. Work experience is preferred. Service to society and how student has impacted others is important. SCOR (Soccer Club of Rockford): Two awards of $1000 each to one male and one female athlete who played for SCOR for at least one full season. Spectrum Health United and Kelsey Hospitals: One $1000 award to an RHS senior who plans to attend college in a health science profession. Spectrum application will be available in the counseling office very soon. Stephen May Humanitarian Award: Offered in memory of Stephen May, who lived by the words Everybody Love Everybody by extending love, compassion, kindness, and unconditional caring to all. Award will be given to a senior who possesses the virtues and values consistent with the Everybody Love Everybody philosophy. StoryPoint of Rockford Award: One $1000 to a graduating senior that has a relationship or connection to StoryPoint, whether that be grandparents that may live there or the student or student s parent(s) work there. Virginia-Lou Mills Scholarship: $2000 to a deserving senior. Mrs. Mills taught high school for fifteen years and inspired many to reach for the stars. She wants to make a significant difference in the life of one deserving student each year. Money will be paid directly to the institution of high learning in which the recipient will be enrolling in the fall. 10 FINAL APPLICATION SUBMISSION Please provide two letters of recommendation with your application. These must not be from a relative. At least one should be from a high school teacher. The other could be from a teacher, coach, employer, youth group leader, or professional with knowledge of your community service efforts. It is the student s responsibility to ensure that all components of the application are including prior to submission. Your application will be disqualified otherwise. Please include a copy of your transcript by accessing your account at and requesting an unofficial self-view copy. This must include first trimester grades from the senior year. Create a file titled with your first and last name. Drop all components of your application into this single file. Attach that file to your when you submit your completed application.
