The piano was donated in honor and memory of Hazel Kelley Wilson by her daughter Texas A&M University System Regent Judy Morgan of Texarkana, Texas, and in honor and memory of Florence and George Crank by their daughters Remica Crank Gray and Camille Crank McGinnis, both of Texarkana, Arkansas. We are honored to receive the gift of this beautiful instrument in honor and memory of Mrs. Wilson and the Cranks and appreciate Regent Morgan and Remica and Camille for their generosity, said Dr. Emily Cutrer, President of A&M-Texarkana. It is very fitting to celebrate their donation with a concert featuring Texarkana musicians Mary Scott Goode and Brett Andrews. It will be a very special day Mary Scott Goode on our campus as we enjoy their superb musical talents and pay tribute to our donors who are such wonderful friends of our university. The concert will feature selections by German composers and pianists Ludwig van Beethoven and Johannes Brahms and Argentine tango composer Astor Piazzolla. The event is open to the public. Goode is in frequent demand as both a soloist and an accompanist. She is a professor of music at Texarkana College where she teaches piano and music appreciation, and accompanies the Texarkana Regional Chorale. As founder of the Texarkana College Music Series, she plays regularly on campus concerts with Texarkana College students and faculty, as well as guest artists. She was the Texarkana College Endowed Faculty Chair Winner for 2009 and has served as president of the Faculty Association. Continued on page 3

Does my costume make fun of a race, ethnic, or cultural group? Would I be uncomfortable for someone of another race, ethnic, or cultural group to see my costume? While wearing this costume, will I change my accent when speaking to others? If your costume is meant to be funny, why is it funny? If your costume is meant to be sexy, why is it sexy? 8 A message from Student Life: Candy needed for Trunk-N-Treat Dear Faculty and Staff: Our Texas A&M University-Texarkana tradition, Trunk-N-Treat, is quickly approaching. Trunk-N-Treat is an event on Halloween night that we ve hosted every year for 10+ years. Each year we continue to grow and last year we had over 600 children from the community come trick or treat on our campus. This is appealing to a lot of families because it is a safe environment for their children. Our student organizations do a great job at providing candy to give out, but it s our biggest expense and we need a lot of it. We would like to encourage faculty Race for the Cure is Saturday at the Four States Fairgrounds! and staff to bring candy to campus to be used for this event. It s a great idea to have your entire department participate as well! There is a donation box near the Student Life office so you can drop it off. We would also like to invite you to participate and volunteer at this event. For more information on getting involved, please contact Michael Stephenson in Student Life. Staff Council sets Halloween costume contest The Texas A&M University-Texarkana Staff Council and Office of Student Life will host a Halloween costume and departmental and office decorating contest on Monday, Oct. 31. Judging will take place at noon in the University Center lobby. First-place winners in the individual and group categories for faculty and staff costumes and departmental and office decorating will receive a jeans day of their choice. A student organization will judge the faculty and staff entries. First, second and third place winners in the student competition will receive gift certificates. The Staff Council will judge the student entries.
