The Eagle Chili Fest and Tailgate Party is set for 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, in the Bringle Lake Village parking lot. The women s soccer match begins at 5 p.m. on Saturday at Eagle Field, and the homecoming queen and king will be announced at 6:30 p.m. The men s soccer match will get underway at 7 p.m. Go Eagles!

PLACE event to feature documentary screening Dr. Drew Morton, Assistant Professor of Mass Communication and 2015 Scholar of the Year at Texas A&M University-Texarkana, will screen Marlon Riggs 1992 documentary Color Adjustment on Monday, Oct. 3, at 6 p.m. in University Center 210, as part of the Program for Learning and Community Engagement SuperLecture series. The event is free and open to the public. Narrated by acclaimed actress Ruby Dee ( A Raisin in the Sun, Do the Right Thing ), Color Adjustment analyzes American race relations through an analysis of African-Americans on television from Amos n Andy and The Jeffersons to Roots and The Cosby Show. Featuring interviews with such notable talent as Diahann Carroll ( Julia ) and Norman Lear ( All in the Family ) and scholars like Herman Gray and Henry Louis Gates Jr., this rarely screened documentary won a Peabody Award and was nominated for a Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. Prior to the screening, Dr. Morton will provide a brief lecture entitled Fade to Black Dr. Drew Morton on the contemporary state of racial diversity in Hollywood, the practice of white washing and the #OscarsSoWhite boycott that defined the 2016 Academy Awards. PLACE is a faculty-led program designed to create a community of learners comprising A&M-Texarkana students, faculty, staff and the community at large. PLACE chooses an annual theme around which to organize a lecture series and other activities that provide focal points for learning and discussion. This year s theme is Race and Ethnicity.

3 COLOR ADJUSTMENT SCREENING AND DISCUSSION WITH DR. DREW MORTON MONDAY, OCTOBER 3 6:00-10:00PM UC 210 This screening of Marlon Riggs seminal 1992 documentary COLOR ADJUSTMENT analyzes American race relations through an analysis of African-Americans on television from AMOS N ANDY and THE JEFFERSONS to ROOTS and THE COSBY SHOW. Prior to the screening, Dr. Morton will provide a brief lecture entitled Fade to Black on the contemporary state of racial diversity in Hollywood, the practice of white washing, and the #OscarsSoWhite boycott that defined the 2016 Academy Awards.

4 Eagles for the Cure T-shirts Each year the Staff Council sells Eagles for the Cure T-shirts. All proceeds benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Shirts may be purchased online through pre-sale only. All orders must be placed by midnight on Monday, Oct. 3. Sizes youth small through adult 3X large are available and all shirts are only $15 each. There will not be any extra T-shirts ordered, so if you want one of these shirts, please purchase it during the pre-sale period. Click here to purchase your Eagles for the Cure T-shirt. Call for Proposals 2017 Teaching with Technology Conference Open to the Entire Texas A&M University System 13th Annual 2017 Teaching with Technology Conference Coordinated by Instructional Technology Services at Texas A&M University Wednesday, March 1 & Thursday, March Memorial Student Center (Gates Ballroom) its.tamu.edu/twtc Instructional Technology Services at Texas A&M University is once again pleased to coordinate another A&M System-wide two-day event for sharing the latest trends and topics in instructional technology. Plan to be an integral part of it by submitting a presentation proposal and sharing your knowledge with colleagues. This year s theme is Activating Student Learning, with special emphasis on active, multi-disciplinary learning and inclusive teaching approaches that encourage student motivation.
