1 Pi fall 2006 Oklahoma State University Crescent Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity Pi Chapter Receives Accolades at OSU Greek Banquet The undergrads at Pi Chapter have once again been named the outstanding fraternity on Oklahoma State University s campus by the Inter Fraternity Council (IFC). Agribusiness Junior and past House Manager Mason Bolay of Perry, OK summed it up best with his statement We did it again! This was the second consecutive year that Pi Chapter waas named the outstanding fraternity chapter at OSU. In route to taking home the Dean Troxel Memorial Trophy this year, the undergrads also placed first in Campus Involvement and Community Service totaling more than 6000 community service hours for the 2005 calendar year. Pi also was named First Runner Up in the Campus Relations division. To be commended as well was Noble Ruler Blake Bixler and Landscape Architecture Senior Mike Albert. Bixler of Waynoka was named Outstanding Junior Greek Man and Albert was a top three finalist in the Top Senior Greek Man division. Thanks to all the hard work of the undergraduate brothers, Pi Chapter has held the top spot on campus for two consecutive years. Congratulations to these brothers; as well to Bixler and Albert for their service to AGR and OSU. AGR Puts their Best Foot Forward in Varsity Revue Alpha Gamma Rho and the women of Kappa Kappa Gamma put on a great show in the 2006 Varsity Revue. AGR and KKG teamed up to bring the Stillwater Campus a show stopping performance entitled: This is the Time to Get Wild! AGR placed second in the university wide song and dance style performance with their story set in the African Savanna. The production was a culmination of many hours put in by performers and directors alike. Directors for AGR were Rob Pricket, Tyler Smith, Cale Walker and Clayton Smith. The show was a ten minute production that followed a peaceful group of animals dealing with a rouge band of hyenas that moved into their territory. Clay Hutson was quoted as saying, It s been a struggle to balance VR, school, AGR and, social activities, but you bet it s been worth it! The directors made it so much easier. Pi Chapter is very excited about the chemistry that they found with Kappa Kappa Gamma and are looking forward to the opportunity to participate in the 2006 Homecoming with these hardworking, talented young women. Formal Was a Big Hit On the weekend of March 26 through March 28, Alpha Gamma Rho had its annual Formal Weekend. Formal is a time for the members and their chosen dates to get away from Stillwater and the books for a weekend. This year undergrads made the trip to Kansas City, Missouri. The transportation consisted of two charter buses. The first night of their weekend they ate at a formal restaurant, The Copa Room, which was located in downtown Kansas City. All day Saturday young men and their dates all toured downtown and visited shopping malls and museums. Saturday night was a hit as brothers attended the Kansas City dog races. Everyone enjoyed this night; having formal dinner and betting on the races. Thanks to the alums that chaperoned and made this great weekend possible. 2 In Memory The undergraduates of Pi Chapter take time to honor a brother that has come before them, Brother Verne Lorenz. Brother Lorenz was initiated in On December 12, 2005, he passed away at 81 years old. We are very sorry to hear of this and our prayers are with the family, Noble Ruler Blake Bixler was quoted as saying. The members of Pi all feel the same. Please send condolences to 105 North Elm Street, Okeene, Oklahoma Alpha Gamma Rho calf fry The Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity held their annual Calf Fry on April 13, The event consisted of the freshmen pledge class collecting calf fries to cook from local ranchers and family members. There was a great turnout of hungry calf fry eaters from Stillwater and other students at Oklahoma State University. The dinner consisted of approximately 250 pounds of calf fries, along with beans, cornbread, and relish dishes. Alpha Gamma Rho collected 200 dollars in profit and the proceeds were given to the Wheelchair Olympics. Pi Chapter would like to give a big thanks to their fellow brothers, Allen Kinzie and A.L. Hutson, for their time and support. The dinner was a fun and successful event! New Cushions for our tushions! The Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity would like to thank Brother Joe Stewart for purchasing the Pi new chairs. The chairs have been needed throughout the house, and they will be greatly appreciated and taken care of. Thank you Joe Stewart for your donation! This fall the undergrads were in for a huge treat. 3 Pi continues strong ties to osu Retiring CASNR Student Council President and Top Graduating Senior, Jordan Russell of Freedom, Oklahoma was all smiles after turning over his position to Agriculture Education Sophomore Cale Walker, CASNR Student Council President for It s been fun and I love the people at OSU, but it s time to turn over the reins and focus on the next step for my life, Russell said at the conclusion of the CASNR banquet. He plans to attend law school this fall at either the University of Oklahoma or the University of Arkansas. Russell was not the only brother that was spotlighted at the banquet. Mike Albert from Beaver, Oklahoma and Jess Waddell of Sutton, Nebraska were selected as Top Five Graduating Seniors. Pi is proud to boast five of the seven CASNR Student Council executive positions for the school year: Cale Walker President Tyler Castonguay Vice President of Business Affairs Tyler Smith Vice President of Student Affairs Austin Horn Secretary Clayton Smith Assistant Treasurer Travis Wolff Student Spokesman As well Landon Vilhauer was selected to represent the College of Agriculture Sciences and Natural Resources in the university wide Student Senate. More than 20 undergraduate brothers were selected to receive more than 50,000 dollars in scholarship for the school year. Weston Dehart, a student in the College of Engineering Architecture and Technology was recently named outstanding graduate for his college. Jordan Russell and Weston Dehart make up 40 percent of the outstanding graduates in the Oklahoma State University system. noble Ruler s Report The fall semester is in full swing as the Men of Alpha Gamma Rho continue their academic endeavors while working to put together a first class Homecoming house decoration and Freshmen Follies show. As always, the talents of many bright and ambitious men are collaborating to keep Pi Chapter flourishing this semester. It is also important to reflect back on some of the great achievements of the Spring and Summer. While the undergraduates have worked to perform at the apex of excellence, the contributions of alumni have been equally impressive and crucial to the success of those currently enrolled at Oklahoma State University. Every semester it becomes more apparent to me what an honor it is to be connected by bonds of brotherhood to such outstanding men. The Dean Troxel award returned to South Washington Street for the second consecutive year. Even more impressive, Pi Chapter blew away the competition in the community service area by performing over 6,000 hours of community service during the 2005 calendar year which equates to about 75 hours per person. Numbers such as these are very rare according to the Interfraternity Council. Spring also featured an outstanding Varsity Revue and Spring Sing performances by Alpha Gamma Rho s most musically gifted. Successful summer recruitment played a vital role in the Pi Chapter s ability to maintain a full Chapter house. Older members are honored to have thirty new brothers to share in the bonds of Alpha Gamma Rho this semester. Recruitment featured a revamped Greek Discovery Day as well as many committed undergraduates and alumni which helped make our summer rush a comprehensive recruitment of the best incoming students at Oklahoma State University. As mentioned earlier, alumni have been very instrumental in undergraduate success. Formal Dinners last spring twice featured Career Day alumni speakers discussing their career paths and their time as OSU. Undergraduates have provided a lot of positive feedback about the events and we look to continue the program this fall. If you are interested in being a Career Day speaker please contact Clayton Smith at clayrsmith@gmail.com. Even more impressive were the alumni contributions to the Chapter house in the form of new mattresses as well as the tables and chairs which were listed on the Pi Chapter Wish List. The undergraduates would like to extend their utmost gratitude to all of those who helped make these additions possible. August provide a special moment to be a member of Pi Chapter. The National Alpha Gamma Rho Convention was held in Breckinridge, with the theme being, Journey Higher. Long time Chapter Advisor, Dr. Oehrtman, was honored as one of four inductees into the National Alpha Gamma Rho Hall of Fame. He is one of only forty-nine Alpha Gamma Rho members nationally to be given this prestigious recognition. The convention additionally provided outstanding opportunities to gain insight into successful practices of other chapters as well as network with alumni. Fall semester will again provide new opportunities for Pi Chapter members to Make Better Men. It is in this endeavor that we constantly challenge ourselves to reach the pinnacle of moral, social, physical, and academic development. We will continue to work towards providing an atmosphere that is conducive to both academic and career success while building the bonds of brotherhood-which is no doubt the greatest part of being a member of Alpha Gamma Rho. Best wishes to all brothers and families. Fraternally, Blake Bixler

4 Dr. O...National Hall of Fame! On April 22, 2006 moms from all across the state came to Stillwater to enjoy fellowship with other moms, good food and of course, bonding time with their sons! More than 70 moms came to the AGR house and met with Moms Club President, Rodeana Bixler, and agreed to purchase their sons formal flatware for the dining room. To cap off a great evening, the moms were treated to the annual Spring Sing performance in Gallagher-Ibo Arena entitled, Hey Mom Let s play Monopoly! This was the show that the undergraduates along with the women of Kappa Delta, put on for their mothers and guests. For all the hard work over the semester, they were awarded 4th place. Wow, I am pumped that my mom could be here on Moms Day and see us place. It was great working with the KD s for Spring Sing as well. National Convention 2006 During the month of August, a few members of Alpha Gamma Rho Pi Chapter traveled to Colorado for the National Convention. Blake Bixler, Lance Shaw, Cale Leeper, House Mom Debbie Strickland, and Dr. Oerthman made the trip. The Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity succeeded in receiving rewards at the convention as well. Pi Chapter received the highest honor for Alumni Corporation. Pi also received Highest Honor for Chapter Website, and Scholarship Excellence Award. The Fraternity s Noble Ruler, Blake Bixler, was awarded the Undergraduate Achievement Scholarship Award. Mom Strickland was awarded the Marie Coe Memorial House Mother Award for best management program. The Fraternity is very proud for all the achievements that have been awarded this year and plan on keeping up the hard work and dedication. Crescent Publishing Services This issue of the Epsilon Crescent was published through the Crescent Publishing Service (CPS). This is a special project of the AGR Home Office to assist chapters in improving communications with alumni. Chapters pay a small fee for the service, below the actual production cost, to encourage regular contact. This project is made possible from alumni like you.
