The Delta Chi Fraternity Potential New Member Packet
THE DELTA CHI FRATERNITY UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI CHAPTER Dear Potential Member, Thank you for taking interest in the Missouri Chapter of The Delta Chi Fraternity. Involvement in the University s Greek system offers opportunities that promote an enhanced college experience. Our members are exposed to an environment of increased leadership opportunities, academic success, campus involvement, and exclusive membership into the brotherhood of a lifetime. Founded in 1890, Delta Chi has continually grown into an international organization, shaped by a history rich in tradition. As a fraternity established on the principles of promoting friendship, developing character, advancing justice, and acquiring a sound education, our chapter continues to progress while maintaining these beliefs as our fundamental standards. We have set ourselves apart as leaders on this campus through our extensive involvement and abilities as fraternity men. Delta Chi is looking for those who will contribute to our organization and continue under these values with the devotion of their time and talents to our brotherhood. I invite you to explore the many prospects available in our organization and I encourage you to see how they can apply to your personal growth and development. We are excited to have you as our guest, and I hope that you enjoy the time that you spend with our chapter. Sincerely, Jake Myers President The Delta Chi Fraternity 501 Turner Avenue, Columbia, MO MissouriDeltaChi.com
New Member Value-Based Recruiting Potential members must posess at least 3 of the 9 strengths to be considered by the Delta Chi FraternityNew members are expected to interview one-on-one with either of the Recruitment Chairs, Bryndon Minter and Tristan Welsh.
+ Year in Review: The Delta Chi Fraternity The Missouri Chapter has had one of the best overall years in the history of our Fraternity s tenure at Mizzou. From a couple of great Associate Member classes to winning performances on the field and on the stage, from successful programming across the board to recognition from the University and Delta Chi Nationals, 2013 has been a year to remember. Excellence The Missouri Chapter was awarded University of Missouri s IFC Chapter of Excellence award this past year, for the best overall Greek Chapter. The Chapter has also brought in numerous awards from the Delta Chi National Headquarters for recruitment, philanthropy and overall excellence in Region IV. Academically, our chapter is consistently above the All-University average and has been awarded the Chancellor s Award for Academic Excellence the past two semesters. (Brothers pictured to the left: Brock Scoville, Alex Dyer, Javier Fernandez-De la Torre and Ethan Colbert, members of our 2013 Executive Board) Social The social calendar for The Delta Chi Fraternity is covered with numerous events throughout the year. The most anticipated date party for the spring semester, however, is the annual White Carnation Formal, which will be held in Louisville, Kentucky. Brothers in our chapter, with their accompanying dates will have the opportunity to attend The Kentucky Derby at historic Churchill Downs, as well as peruse the downtown Louisville scene right outside of our hotel. White Carnation formal will be May 2nd through the 4th. Formals of past years have been held in Memphis, New Orleans, KC and the Lake of the Ozarks. The spring semester is also host to numerous other Delta Chi functions, date parties, and pairing events with some of the best sororities that Greek Life has to offer. As we relax during the holidays, our chapter social chair, Ethan Colbert, is busy booking venues for socials with the women of Kappa Kappa Gamma and the women of Delta Gamma. Delta Chi values leadership and academic success as its top priority, but its members also know how to reward the product of countless hours of effort, hence the commonly used phrase, "Work hard, play hard." (Pictured to left, above, Churchill Downs, the site of the Kentucky Derby. Below, the banner for one of our Fall socials, Chi-Ribbean, with the women of Chi Omega) Athletics Brothers excelled this year in intramurals and sorority philanthropies. Delta Chi took first place in Kappa Alpha Theta s football tournament for the second year in a row, Alpha Chi Omega s dodgeball tournament, Pi Beta Phi s basketball tournament and second place in Gamma Phi Beta s soccer tournament. Delta Chi also made championship runs in intramural soccer, football and indoor volleyball in Fall We look forward to another great spring semester in athletics. (Pictured to left, The Delta Chi team for Delta Delta Delta s Triple Play philanthropy) 7
The Delta Chi Fraternity Spring Programming Greek Week & R.A.M.S. Philanthropy Mom s Weekend As one of the prominent Talent Houses in Greek town, Delta Chi thrives in spring competitions like Greek Week and Rockin Against Multiple Sclerosis (RAMS). Viewed as two of the most contested events of the year, Greek Week and RAMS take up a fair portion of our chapter s time and efforts in the semester. Although both contain elements of stage performance, Greek Week is especially competitive because of its athletic events. Greek pairings will be clashing in co-ed soccer, basketball, flag football, volleyball and one miscellaneous sport (past sports have been teeball, capture the bacon, etc). (Pictured above is Delta Chi s Spring 2013 RAMS Rock it performance) Our annual Delta Chi For the Cure Week philanthropy occurs during Spring semester, typically in mid-march. The Internal Philanthropy committee heads plan all year to raise money for our national philanthropy organization, The V Foundation for Cancer Research. Last year, Delta Chi raised close to $5,000 for The V Foundation. During FTC Week, we camp out on Lowry Mall in the center of campus and hold a variety of fundraising events like daily barbecues, penny wars and raffles. Past FTC Weeks have concluded with basketball tournaments, where Delta Chi hosted a bracket of sorority competition. The competition for this Spring is yet to be decided. Traditionally, Mom s Weekend is a highlight for the special women that are mothers of Delta Chi men. This is a chance for a mother and her son to bond over that son s unique collegiate fraternity experience, whether her son is spending his first semester in college or her son is in the home stretch of his college endeavors at Mizzou. Past itineraries included a visit to a Columbia winery, cosmic bowling and a Sunday morning brunch downtown.
Associate Membership Program The Delta Chi Fraternity seeks to achieve two goals: to make each new member Socially Competent and Mentally Cognizant. Socially Competent... Among Brothers The Associate Member Class will hold an event for the active members of The Delta Chi Fraternity. The event should be an opportunity for the Associate Members to get to know every single brother in the fraternity in a casual setting. Chapter Point System All active and associate members are enrolled into a point system used to track involvement within and outside the chapter. This system encourages members to get involved with their brothers through community service, philanthropy, serenades, study hours, and much more. Even a part time job earns points! Maintaining a certain number of points is required to be in good standing. Gentlemen of Respect The Associate Member class will have a good reputation with the women on campus because they will show initiative in creating and performing serenades for the various philanthropies hosted by different organizations, including sororities. Both Associate Members and active Delta Chis are diligent to always be respectful gentlemen, especially in the presence of women. Mentally Cognizant... Built to Promote Success From the beginning of the Associate Membership program, there is strong structure to the process. This allows The Delta Chi Fraternity to attract leaders around campus because there is no guessing about requirements to become an active member following the completion of Associate Membership. Associate Member Classes The required Associate Member classes, held every week and proctored by the Associate Member Counselors, will educate each new member in the history and values of the fraternity, information on Greek life at MU, and how to be a better fraternity man. Weekly Study Hours Multiple times throughout the week, the Academics Committee Chairman hosts study hours at various libraries throughout campus. Both active members and associate members are encouraged to attend. These occasions provide a great opportunity for members to receive assistance from other members within the chapter. The Test Library The Associate Member class, along with the entire fraternity, have access to a library of previous tests and study materials for many courses at MU. This library is hosted online, making access to its contents accessible virtually anywhere.
