The contestants then went through five rounds of interviews, workshop facilitation Riley Pagett and speeches. Each person was evaluated for good morals, leadership, proficiency, integrity and intelligence. Riley has been actively involved in FFA since He held the state office of Northwest District Vice President for Oklahoma in Some of his activities through FFA involved Prepared Speaking, Extemporaneous Speaking, Beef, Swine and Goat Production, and Lawn Production. Additionally, I have learned the value of being a part of something greater than myself. 3 Homecoming 2010 For this year s homecoming, Alpha Gamma Rho was paired with the sorority Kappa Alpha Theta. The directors for Alpha Gamma Rho were Grant Detten, Dane Caldwell and Matt Kubik. Kappa Alpha Theta s directors consisted of Kendall Turpin, Olivia Gutierrez, Kayla Heim, Carrie Johnson and Haley Key. Both houses put in many man hours and a ton of hard work. Late night thunderstorms and a continuous rain throughout the day were just a few of the hardships that the men of Pi chapter had to overcome this year in order to help provide America s Greatest Homecoming Celebration. The result was placement in every category judged for homecoming sweepstakes. Alpha Gamma Rho and Kappa Alpha Theta placed fifth in Football Frenzies, third in the Library Lawn Sign competition, third in Harvest Carnival, second in House Deck Design, first in House Deck Engineering and second in Homecoming Sweepstakes. Aside from the multiple Homecoming awards, Brother Wyatt Swinford received special recognition as Oklahoma State University s Homecoming King. This means the last three out of four Homecoming Kings members of Pi chapter Alpha Gamma Rho, an honor that is held very dear to us. Everyone here at Pi chapter hopes our continued efforts through homecoming can help show a small part of our appreciation to those brothers who came before us. The 2010 Homecoming House Decoration this year brought together many aspects of both Alpha Gamma Rho and Kappa Alpha Theta. Both Alpha Gamma Rho and Kappa Alpha Theta found themselves in the unique position of having a recent marriage between the two houses. With this in mind, the directors designed a deck depicting a young boy and girl s journey through life. Different objects, such as Lincoln Logs, Legos and a barn for the men and nail House Decorations polish, lipstick and a baby blue Ford Mustang for the women were used to show how each grew up as they traveled down life s road to finally meet in the middle of the decoration at Oklahoma State University. This gave new meaning to decoration s theme Life Is a Highway That Leads to the Cowboy Nation. The decoration also had a three-dimensional aspect to it the pomped Mustang, Mrs. Potato Head, nail polish, Legos and Lincoln Logs were all three-dimensional. The reasoning behind this was to show how life has to be viewed from different angles at all times; it is not a planar piece of paper. Judging for the house decorations takes into consideration theme, engineering, creativity and general appearance. The Engineering aspect is judged in its own category whereas the rest are lumped together under Design. For this year s 2010 decoration Alpha Gamma Rho/ Kappa Alpha Theta placed first in Engineering and second in Design.
4 1. Alumni Awards Many awards were given out to alumni this year before the annual Homecoming Walkarounds. These awards recognized continued efforts toward Alpha Gamma Rho, something that can often go overlooked. Everyone at Pi chapter appreciates what our alumni do, and we would like to thank any and all that have given back to the brothers after them. Brother E. Edd Pritchett received his 50-year initiate award. He was initiate number 744 and now resides in Cashion. Brother Dr. Mike Hardin received the Leo P. Strickland Outstanding Alumni Award. Mike has served both Pi chapter and the Alumni Board as Financial Advisor for over 10 years. Brothers John Cothren, Brian Vowell, and Doug Jackson received their Outgoing Alumni Board Member award. Each has served more than one term on the board, and Brian served as Secretary during his tenure. Brother Weston Dehart received the Virgil Stratton Outstanding Alumni Award. Cecil D. Maynard was recently inducted into the Pi Chapter Hall of Fame and was also recognized at this meeting. 2. The following brothers were present to receive their awards during homecoming (name and initiation year printed): 1. E. Edd Pritchett, 1960; 2. Mike Hardin, 1968; 3. John Cothren, 1994; 4. Brian Vowell, 1994; 5. Doug Jackson, Letter from our House Mom It s my third year with the AGRs, and it still remains one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I really must have done something good in my childhood! Our alumni came through (once again!) and had our Virgil Stratton OSU room painted and also installed new flooring to match what is in our living area. Our west-facing windows and door in the same room are now tinted, thanks to a generous Don Evans. Our front garden area is now completed thanks to the Mom s Club. Everything looks more than terrific, and we appreciate you all. The AGR moms are returning this month to decorate for Christmas and to make a final decision on the new furniture allocated for the Dr. O room. They didn t want it before Homecoming for obvious reasons. If everything goes right, hopefully we will be able to finish painting over the holidays. All in all, we re off to a great start in Your group of guys is wonderful; I can t say enough except thank you for such great parenting and teaching. It is still a pleasure to be a part of their lives, and I m enjoying every minute. Sincerely, Mom Walker Pi Chapter Social Networks Search for Oklahoma Alumni Association of Alpha Gamma Rho and reconnect today! Get the news as it happens. Follow us on Twitter at
5 Alpha Gamma Rho Winter Bonanza Each year the men of Alpha Gamma Rho produce a calf show for 4-H and FFA members as an annual philanthropy. The men of AGR seek to give back to the organizations that helped to instill in them the values of hard work, sportsmanship and responsibility. Winter Bonanza gives youth the opportunity to compete with their livestock evaluation skills, as well as exhibit their SAE projects. These projects require hundreds of hours of manual labor each year, in which total responsibility of an animal is given to the student. Prize money from the show allows the students to continue to finance their project and to judge their progress There are currently 66 brothers who are lost. Please help us find them.
