1 Theta Crescent Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity Fall Noble Ruler Report University of Missouri Greetings everyone! As Noble Ruler, I am thrilled to announce that Theta Chapter is off to a great start to the semester, and even more excited to announce that we brought home the Maynard Coe Award from the National Convention in Vermont. I am also pleased to say we have initiated 28 outstanding new brothers who represent the field of agriculture in all of its broad aspects. As the year progresses we have begun preparing for Homecoming and are working hard for another win in Although we can t wait for the homecoming game on Oct. 27, we may be even more excited for upcoming games within our new conference. We have already welcomed brothers from Georgia, and we would be thrilled to have any other traveling brothers visit. MIZ-SEC! Fraternally, Josh Roling Noble Ruler Ag Rho Jack at Jimmy s Family Steakhouse Next time you re passing through Columbia, be sure to stop by Jimmy s Family Steakhouse on South Providence and try the new Ag Rho Jack! Jimmy s has been (and continues to be!) a hangout for Theta Chapter s undergraduate brothers for years so much so that they decided to name a menu item after us! Jimmy s is a spectacular restaurant with a great family atmosphere, good drinks and great food. Theta Chapter Online Find Theta Chapter on Facebook and strengthen your bond with your brothers. 2 2012 National Convention Brothers from across the nation gathered in Burlington, Vt. July 29 through July 31to celebrate brotherhood in Alpha Gamma Rho. Theta Chapter was represented well in delegates and also achievements. The brothers who attended (and Mom Marty) had a wonderful experience meeting other brothers and exploring Burlington. We are very proud to announce these awards for our Chapter: 1 Maynard Coe Chapter Efficiency Award Gold Chapter Status Highest Honor: Alumni Relations Recruitment Excellence 2 Website Crescent - Single Issue Housemother Management Program (Marty Napier) 3 Photo captions: #1: Undergraduates in attendance (from left) Breck Babbs, Jared Henderson, Britt Kagay, Jon Roling, Austin Smith, and Josh Roling enjoy one of the many attractions in Burlington. #2: All of Theta s representatives (alumni and undergraduates) pose with all the awards received. #3: Noble Ruler Josh Roling poses with AGR executive director Phil Josephson after receiving the Maynard Coe award for top AGR chapter in the nation. Honorable Mention: Housemother Cultural and Social Development (Marty Napier) Outstanding Adviser Award (Ryan Milhollin) A special thanks to everyone who helped us get these awards, and all who attended and enjoyed National Convention.
3 2012 National Convention (Cont.) Charlie Napier Inducted into AGR Hall of Fame On July 31, 2012, Brother Charlie Napier was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Alpha Gamma Rho s 62 nd National Convention in Burlington, Vt. Charlie s many contributions to Theta Chapter and Alpha Gamma Rho earned him this honor. Rather than listing his many accomplishments, we have chosen to share a portion of his acceptance speech. My thanks go out to Gene Swackhamer and his committee for choosing me for this honor. to Ryan Milhollin for nominating me and some nice brothers for saying some flattering things about me. Knowing now for a couple of months that I d be standing here tonight I ve given thought to what I should say. I wanted to say something to our collegiate brothers because you re looking ahead at a lifetime of Alpha Gamma Rho. In a not untypical scenario, I graduated from school and got involved in those typical things building a career building a family building a life. For about 20 years I didn t spend a lot of time with Alpha Gamma Rho. Then a brother called and asked me to get involved with the Theta Chapter Building Association. It was Lowell Newsom, who many of you know. Lowell s exact words were, It will only take about an hour a month. As Peter (Tomlinson) will tell you, we ve gotten in about a decade of one hours per month in just the last week. Lowell was a salesman and could twist the truth just a tad. But you know what that was a case when a lie was justified it re-engaged me in Alpha Gamma Rho. I want you to remember this story, and whether it s right after graduation, or 20 years later, be engaged. Charlie Napier ( 62) gives his AGR Hall of Fame induction speech. The Hall of Fame is AGR s highest honor. I ve been trying to find the right words to describe the great benefit of staying close to AGR. Hundreds of words come to mind but as I ve thought about it, it boils down to this: Be Alpha Gamma Rho Be Alpha Gamma Rho by being all that it stands for Be Alpha Gamma Rho in the way you treat others Be Alpha Gamma Rho in how you revere your wife in the way you love your children Be Alpha Gamma Rho in the way you apply yourself to your work to your church to your community to your nation to your world. Be Alpha Gamma Rho in ways that will help those that will follow you to attain the values and rewards of being in Alpha Gamma Rho In all these things in everything you do Be Alpha Gamma Rho. Thanks again. Congratulations Charlie, and thank you for being Alpha Gamma Rho.

Two members from their initiation class will be named 2012 Popp/McBee Scholarship winners. A big thank you and congratulations go to Brothers Cory Gregg, Shannon Webber, and Jake Kirtley for heading up a very successful Popp/McBee Memorial Golf Tournament! After a rainy start (the Tournament was canceled due to the weather last April), Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012 was the perfect day for golf. Lake of the Woods Golf Course on the eastern edge of Columbia was the setting for the 84 golfers (21 teams) who participated in the tournament. Sponsorships, participation fees, mulligans and a raffle raised more than $4,500 for Theta Scholarships. The scholarships are awarded to a deserving incoming freshman that exemplifies the Fraternity s values of character, integrity, leadership and scholarship. 5 Celebrating a Century of Excellence As Theta Chapter approaches our 100th year, we are adding a new feature to our Crescent. Celebrating a Century of Excellence will include excerpts from previous publications. We think you will find them to be interesting and informative, and in some cases amusing. If you have stories to share, please write them down and send them to VNR Alumni Relations, 602 S College Ave., Columbia, MO We will certainly publish them in future Crescents. March 1936 Nat Davis is expected to do a very acceptable job as representative of the fraternity in the new bridge tournament that is being held on the campus for the first time. Nat has long been considered one of the best bridge players in Howard County. March 1964 From the NR s Desk Our Social life was one to be envied by any Ag Fraternity and I think this in part explains our failure to excel scholastically. Because of rising academic standards our pledge program has been reduced to a bare minimum of time-consuming activities, believe it or not, (most faculty members don t) and yet we were still disappointed with grades. I think this is the area in which we have done the most revising in recent years and still needs much more work and thought put into it... Fraternally, Cecil Keasler, Noble Ruler November 1995 Theta Chapter is very excited about the first annual Alpha Gamma Rho Beef Exposition Nick Hammett, Chairman Save the Date: Celebrating a Century of Success APRIL 24 Mark your calendar and plan to join Theta Chapter on April 24, At approximately 3 p.m. on that day, we will reach the ripe old age of 100 years. What did those original members of The Coleman Club do that day? How do you think they wanted us to celebrate? If you have an opinion you are willing to share as to how you would like to celebrate with your AGR Brothers, please your thoughts to Brother Steve Ellis at agr821@gmail.com.
6 Recruitment Update Tyler Garrett, VNR Recruitment, and his recruitment team have been hard at work all spring semester and summer and have signed a great class of new members for the fall semester. They are currently working with Matt Eisenbath, VNR Membership Development, to learn about Theta and AGR National History. They are all very excited to be here, and look forward to the next four years at their new home. We are incredibly excited to announce our 28 new initiates: John Richard Anderson California, Mo.
