Thank you for an outstanding year of engagement with the Emory Scholars Program! We are grateful for your time, effort, and mentorship as we endeavored to expand our alumni programming this year. We can boast a strong increase in alumni involvement, all thanks to you. This involvement enriches the experiences of current Scholars, and hopefully, enriches your post-emory experience as well. Check out the honor roll of alumni who have been involved this semester. It has been my pleasure to serve as the external relations fellow this past year, working with many of you to implement new programs and create deeper connections. This position has grown my love for Emory and my appreciation for the character of our community. As I finish my time working with the ESP, I am excited to join you all as an active alum. I will be continuing my studies at the New York University School of Law this August and sincerely hope to stay connected to many of you as we continue to support Emory and the Scholars together. Scholars Finalists Week Thank you to the more than 50 Emory Scholar alumni who helped with recruitment this year, from calling awarded students to reviewing applications and interviewing Finalists in Atlanta! Scholar Finalists Week 2017 was a great success, and we couldn t have done it without you. In particular, we would like to thank the alumni who traveled to Atlanta to participate in the interview process, giving

2 Atlanta to participate in the interview process, giving significant time and investing personal resources to maintain the high quality of the Program by helping us select the next class of Emory Scholars. This coming fall, 16 new Woodruff Scholars will join the Emory Scholars Program. They are accomplished, talented, and most importantly, have the potential to do incredible work at Emory and beyond. To learn more about them and the other Scholars in the class of 2021, read their profiles here. Scholars in San Francisco This past February, the Emory Scholars Program traveled to San Francisco. We had a great time catching up with alumni and visiting the Bay Area. Iliana De Santis, a Scholar who went on the trip, said This experience was a highlight of my senior year! The trip was a great way to meet alumni, bond with peers, eat amazing food, jump in the Google ball-pit, and explore a variety of career options in the Bay Area! We would especially like to thank Kelley Friedgen 99C 03L 03PH for being the catalyst that prompted us to travel west and for helping us plan the entire trip. Special thanks also to Ernest Brown 13C, Tom Cassaro 15C, and Nicolai Lundy 09C, for hosting us at your companies. Alumni Visits The spring semester brought two exciting alumni visits to campus. Tom Cassaro 15C stopped by the brand new Emory Scholars Lounge and went to lunch with current scholars. Tom is completing a year as a fellow with the City of San Francisco. Jon Goldman 14B, a business analyst at Deloitte, also took current scholars to lunch, sharing knowledge and advice about social enterprise. We can plan lunches, other events, or simply set aside some time for you to visit with students in the Scholars Lounge. We d love to see you soon! Award Winning Emory Scholars Spring 2017 was an exciting time for Emory Scholars, many of whom won prestigious awards. Mallory Carnes 18C, a Woodruff Dean s

3 Caroline Holmes 17C, a Woodruff Research Scholar majoring in physics and biology, was awarded the Lucius Lamar McMullan Award for her contributions in research, mentorship, and community service. Mallory Carnes 18C, a Woodruff Dean s Achievement Scholar majoring in Chinese and music, was awarded the prestigious Beinecke Scholarship, which she will use to pursue a PhD in ethnomusicology. Julianna Joss 17C, a Woodruff Scholar majoring in political science and dance, was awarded one of the four prestigious Bobby Jones Scholarships to study at the University of St. Andrews. Lamija Grbic 17C, a Woodruff Dean s Achievement Scholar majoring in philosophy, will also study at the University of St. Andrews as the Bobby Jones Fellow, completing a MLitt in Moral, Political, and Legal Philosophy. Emma Reidy 17C, a Dean s Achievement Scholar majoring in linguistics and Spanish, will complete a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant program in Argentina. Read more about Emma s research here. Isabelle Saldana 17C, a Woodruff Scholar majoring in interdisciplinary studies, will complete a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant program in India. Congrats to the Class of 2017! We would also like to extend a special thank you to Doug Shipman 95C for inspiring our graduates at this year s Scholars Senior Lunch as our alumni New Alumni Spotlight Jonathan Broniec 15OX 17B An Oxford Dean s Scholar, Jonathan majored in chemistry in the college and information systems and operations management at Goizueta Business School. He served as the Student Admissions Association Coordinator at Oxford College. Jonathan will join Accenture as a Business Analyst in Chicago, IL. Jason Friedman 17C A Woodruff Scholar, Jason majored in mathematics. He served as Chair of the Honor Council and helped recruit our newest class of Scholars as a senior interviewer. Jason will be staying here in Atlanta, GA, working as a Strategy Analyst at Delta Airlines. Caiwei Huang 17C 17G A Dean s Achievement Scholar, Caiwei majored in political science and interdisciplinary studies at Emory, completing her BA and MA in political science. She served as President of the East Asia Collective and served as a member of Emory s delegation to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. A recipient of the Schwarzman Scholarship, Caiwei will complete a Masters in global affairs at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China in the fall. Sasicha Manupipatpong 17C A Woodruff Research Scholar, Sasicha majored in biology. She was a leader of Emory s chapter of GlobeMed and Volunteer Emory, as well as participating in multiple research opportunities. Sasicha will attend medical school at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD in the fall.
