1 Mount de Sales Academy Honors Assembly May 24, 2013 Building the Kingdom Award Mr. William H. Howard and Mrs. Linda P. Howard established this award in memory of their daughter, Tara Howard 05. This $1,000 scholarship award is given to a student who exemplifies Christian service. Alexandra Albrecht Julianna Shearer Bernie W. Warthen Memorial Award Bernie Warthen worked at Mount de Sales Academy for almost 20 years in a position that touched the life of our school each day, as he was entrusted with the stewardship of our resources so that we might reach our goal of Academic Excellence in the Catholic Tradition. The award established in his honor is given to a senior who exemplifies the lessons his life taught of true love of God, family, friends and Mount de Sales; integrity and diligence in all things; patience in trying circumstances; the strength of real gentleness and the value of generosity and compassion. Claire Halligan Alumnae Association Scholarship The Alumnae Association Scholarship is a partial scholarship for one year. Recipients must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and be well-rounded individuals who outwardly exemplify the spirit of and love for Mount de Sales. Cassandra George Megan McDermott Alumnae Association Book Scholarship The Alumnae Association Book Scholarship is awarded to a returning student who volunteered at alumnae events in the current school year. Each time a student volunteered her name was added to the pool of eligible girls. Alyssa Berdan Alma Kinlein McCormack 36 and Marion Kaye McCormack 72 Scholarship The recipient of this award is a rising senior who has demonstrated living strong traditional Catholic values through achievement in two areas: Religious activities participation and religion studies. She has participated for at least a year and is currently participating in religious Catholic activities at school and/or at her home parish and/or religious Catholic activities outside of her home parish. Of those who meet this participation criterion she has the highest cumulative grade in religious studies over the first two and one half years. Page 1 of 13

Connelly Magin Margaret Piel Fine Arts Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to an art student who is interested in furthering her studies in the Page 10 of 13
11 arts. This scholarship is based upon financial need and academics. Kaitlyn Gamboa Picco Fine Arts Scholarship This scholarship is awarded in memory of the Picco family to an art student. Rebecca Huber Helen Kirwan Maisel Leadership Award This award is named after Helen Kirwan Maisel 30, who while a student at Mount de Sales Academy served as class president all four years. This award honors a student who is a leader who serves with virtue and character. Kaitlyn Gamboa Randolph College Book Award The Randolph College Book Award is awarded to an outstanding junior who has been selected for her achievements in academic excellence and her leadership potential. In addition to the book being presented, the student will receive a renewable $5000 scholarship to Randolph College. Mary Babcock Fox 45 Champions of Courage Certificates of achievement are awarded to students for their participation in the Black History Month Essay Competition. Megan Tucker David B. Wilkins Courage Award Instituted in 1995, this award is named for Mr. David B. Wilkins, a teacher at Mount de Sales from who overcame adversity. The student is selected by the administration from the entire student body. Christina Topper St. Francis de Sales Spirit Awards Every year the St. Francis de Sales Spirit Award is given to one student from each class who exemplifies strong school spirit and ability to evoke the same spirit and love for Mount de Sales in others. These girls support their classmates both in word and in deed.
