1 NEWMAN CENTRAL CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP INSTRUCTIONS Newman Central Catholic High School offers scholarships through the funding of its benefactors. The benefactors of Newman are greatly appreciated as they assist with the funding of students tuition and overall expenses of the school. Prior to submission of your scholarship essay, you must have registered for next school year. You must also have submitted your tuition and educational Investment contract. Scholarship applications not meeting these criteria will not be considered. All papers must be submitted by March Scholarship applicants need to a one-page essay answering questions on the following two subjects unless otherwise stated in the Scholarships listed below; 1. Why receiving a Catholic education is important to you? 2. How will you benefit from this scholarship? Please include the following information in the introductory paragraph of your essay: Name, Address, Present Grade, Present School, Father and Mother Name along with their occupation, list any siblings, and anyone else that lives in your household. Also include, a list of activities you participate in, in and outside of school. Criteria for each scholarship may differ. Please read the criteria carefully, as some scholarships require additional information and/or require an extra essay. The scholarship essay deadline is March 9, 2018 at 3:00 PM. EVERY scholarship for which you are applying MUST be submitted in a.pdf format and sent via to scholarships@newmancchs.org. Scholarships should be saved individually (even though the content may be the same) and titled in the following manner: your last name, first name and scholarship name Example: Doe John Bittorf.pdf. Bartel graduated from Community Catholic High School in He was ordained a priest in Although Fr. Bartel resided in many different areas, he was always involved in his community. This scholarship is for a Newman who student is who is involved in many activities in and outside of school and takes pleasure in serving mankind. BITTORF SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship is rewarded to a deserving student who is in good academic standing and has an interest in athletics. HELEN LONG BLOMBERG SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship is in memory of Helen Long Blomberg Class of 1952, who has a love and passion for education. Students applying for this scholarship should demonstrate a great financial MSGR. BURNS SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship is for a Newman student who needs extra assistance in the academic area, but works diligently to meet his/her academic goals.
2 CHESHIER FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship is open to a current Newman student who instills the importance of a Catholic education and is involved in school activities. This student must maintain a 2.5 GPA. The family requests a separate essay to be written on, Please tell us about yourself, your extra-curricular activities and what it means to attend Newman. CLASS OF 47 - SR. ROSEMARY KEEGAN SL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: The Class of 1947, in memory of Sr. Rosemary Keegan SL, has established this memorial scholarship. This memorial scholarship is available to any Newman student who desires to apply his/her talents in the nurturing and Christ centered environment offered by Newman Central Catholic High School. Special consideration will be given to a student who has an interest in the educational field. CLASS OF 1952 SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship is given and funded by the generous financial support of the Class of Incoming freshman or existing students may apply. CLASS OF 1960 SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship is given and funded by the generous financial support of the Class of Incoming freshman or existing students may apply. CLASS OF 1964 SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship is given and funded by the generous financial support of the Class of The students applying for this scholarship must have at least a 2.8 GPA and must be in good standing all around. CLASS of 1971 SCHOLARSHIP/SISTER SILVER FOX CRITERIA: The Class of 1971 has established this scholarship in memory and in honor of all of the Sisters of Loretto that taught at Newman. Students applying for this scholarship should show deep devotion to our Catholic faith and be an honorable student CLASS of MARGARET FLYNN FELTHAM MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship is in memory of Margaret Flynn Feltham 76. This scholarship is for a deserving student who has good moral character, in good academic standing and shows some financial CLASS OF 1982 PETER SAUCEDO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship is in memory of Peter Saucedo 82 and is funded by his Class of 1982 peers. This scholarship will be awarded to an upperclassman, which has a 3.0 average GPA and shows some financial CLASS OF 1985 SISTER CLARICE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship is in memory of longtime teacher Sister Clarice. Scholarship will be based on student in good academic standing who is taking 4 years of a foreign language. ROBERT CORWELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to a student who demonstrates an interest in learning and will attend Newman Central Catholic High School in the fall. This scholarship in memory of Robert Corwell, proud father of six Newman graduates.

DELHOTAL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This memorial scholarship is awarded to a student who participates in multiple sports, has at least a B average and demonstrates the spirit of sportsmanship both on and off the field. This applicant must submit a separate essay that discusses the role sports has played in their life. DEPASQUALE FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship is for an incoming freshman student. This student must strive to reach their academic potential and demonstrates faith in their community. Consideration will be given to students with financial WILLIAM E. AND PATRICIA EBERLEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship is in memory of William E. and Patricia C. Eberley and is available to any Newman student who desires to apply his/her talents in the nurturing and Christ centered environment offered by Newman Central Catholic High School. DR. JOHN FERRIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This memorial scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman student who attended St. Mary s School in Sterling. URBAN (BEN) AND MARY FRANCQUE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This memorial scholarship is presented to a current freshman student, to be a sophomore, who is a member of St. Mary s Parish in Sterling or surrounding parish member and is in good academic standing. EDWARD W. GRENNAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship was established in memory of Mr. Grennan who instilled the importance of Catholic education to his family. This scholarship is open for all Newman students MATTHEW E. AND HELEN E. GRENNAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship is for a student who has more than one sibling also enrolled in Catholic Education. Please include in your essay how you serve others. MARY G. HAENNI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship is for a Newman student who has the love of the arts and the love of animals. Along with your essay, please submit your favorite recipe along with an experience of baking/cooking with your favorite someone. ANN HERMES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to a student who demonstrates self-worth and will attend Newman Central Catholic High School in the fall. MATTHEW HOFFMILLER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship is in memory of Matt Hoffmiller, class of 1995, who held his faith, family, Newman and friends in high esteem. He was involved in many school activities including athletics, musicals, choir and extra-curricular clubs. He worked hard academically to achieve the goals he set and always was the unsung hero in the hallways protecting and defending the less fortunate in life. In your essay, please describe how some of Matt s above listed characteristics are similar to yours.
4 RICHARD LONG MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This memorial scholarship will be awarded to a Dixon or Harmon student that demonstrates a great financial The student may be either an incoming freshman or an existing student at Newman Central Catholic High School. MCDONNELL FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This memorial/honorary scholarship will be awarded annually to an incoming student from St. Mary s School in Sterling or St. Andrew s School in Rock Falls. Since reading has been a lifelong passion of Patrick, Thomas, John and Francis McDonnell, applicants should submit a short essay which discusses My Favorite Book. JERRY MCGINN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This memorial scholarship will be awarded to a current Newman student who is service oriented. This applicant must submit a separate essay on past service work for school parish and/or community THOMAS A. MCGINN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship is for an incoming sophomore student from either Newman or transferring to Newman, who should write a separate essay on mind, body and spirit, and how those three assets have affected or made a difference in his/her life. This scholarship is perpetual, meaning if the student continues to meet the criteria requirements, may be offered the same scholarship throughout your high school enrollment at Newman. NELSON FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship is for a student wishing to attend Newman and is involved in extracurricular activities and in good academic standing. Preference will be given to a St Andrew s Student with financial ROBERT A. PROPHETER SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship is awarded to a student attending Newman Central Catholic High School who applies him or herself academically. SCHMITT SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This annual scholarship is awarded to any Newman student that shows a significant financial HUGHIE SITTER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship is for an incoming freshman student who attends St. Mary Sterling. Preference will be given to a student who comes from a big family. THERESA SMITH SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This honorary scholarship is awarded to a Newman student who works hard academically and represents Newman Central Catholic High School with pride and loyalty in the tradition of the school ST. ANDREW KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COUNCIL #11874 SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: Recipient of this scholarship must be an active member of St. Andrew s Parish, and be ranked in the top half of their class. Extra considerations will be given to a student that is involved in extra-
5 curricular activities including religious and community service. Also, please list any relations you may have with a K of C member of Council # REVEREND MATTHEW ALLEN VANDERBLEEK SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA: This scholarship is in memory of Fr. Those applying for this scholarship should indicate in their essay a whole person concept to include involvement in school, community, church, and volunteer/athletic activities. The applicant should have a strong work ethic/high expectations when it comes to academics and giving back to their community.
