1 Annual Special Chapter and Individual Greek Awards Packet Enclosed in this packet are copies of the award applications for all of the special awards given to chapters, and the individual awards presented to members of the fraternity and sorority community at Elon University. Every chapter is encouraged to submit applications for these awards. All applications will be judged blindly by a committee comprised of faculty and staff, and presented at the Annual Greek Awards Ceremony in May. The following is a list of the awards available: SPECIAL CHAPTER AWARDS (No application required) Outstanding Philanthropy Award (no application required) o Awarded to one chapter, regardless of council o Given to the chapter with the highest amount of dollars per member (average) raised for philanthropic efforts during the Academic Year. o Chosen based on reports turned in to the Greek Life office. Outstanding Community Service Award (no application required) o Awarded to one chapter, regardless of council o Given to the chapter with the highest amount of hours per member (average) for community service efforts during the Academic Year. o Chosen based on reports turned in to the Greek Life office. Facility of the Year (no application required) o Granted to one men s (IFC and NPHC), and one women s (PHC and NPHC) chapter house or suite. o Chosen by a committee of House Managers, the Assistant Director of Greek Life, and Environmental Services staff members.
2 INDIVIDUAL GREEK MEMBER AWARDS Greek Man or Woman of the Year o Must be a graduating Senior o Awarded to: Greek Man IFC & NPHC, and Greek Woman PHC & NPHC o The Panhellenic Greek Woman of the year award is named the Elizabeth E. Fleuren Panhellenic Greek Woman of the Year o 2 applications per chapter Outstanding Chapter President o Awarded to one person per council o Must have served as President in Academic Year o 1 application per chapter Greek Emerging Leader o Awarded to one person per council o Cannot be a graduating senior o Up to 3 applications per chapter Outstanding Chapter and Faculty/Staff Advisor o Awarded to one Chapter Advisor and one Faculty/Staff Advisor o Must have served as an advisor in Academic Year o 1 application per chapter for each award Greek Life Hall of Fame Induction o Awarded to fraternity/sorority members that have represented the values and upstanding morals of their affiliation in other aspects of their life and/or career. o All chapters may submit up to 5 names for consideration. o Eligible inductees include Graduating Seniors, Chapter Alumni, Elon Faculty or Staff members. Office of Greek Life FIRE Award (no application required) o Fraternal Ideals Represented Everyday o Chosen by the Office of Greek Life staff o Awarded to a maximum of three fraternity or sorority members who have made a significant contribution to the Greek Life office and/or community during their time as an Elon Greek student. These recipients lead by example in how to represent their ritual and values in everyday life. All applications and recommendations are due May 1, 2013 by 5:00 p.m. to the Office of Greek Life in Moseley 209.
3 Greek Man and Greek Woman of the Year Application Information This award was designed to recognize Greek leaders who have made a significant contribution to Elon University and the Greek community. The criteria for this award are as follows: Must be a graduating senior in good standing with his/her fraternity/sorority Must exemplify the ideals that are the basis of fraternal values (scholarship, service, brotherhood/sisterhood, and interfraternalism) Must show a commitment to improving the Greek community at Elon University, including but not limited to improvement of his/her own organization Must promote a positive image of Greek Life Must have attained a good balance of participation in all aspects of student life Must have demonstrated leadership ability Must be well respected by students, faculty, and staff Must have demonstrated a high level of integrity Each chapter may nominate two (2) seniors for this award, and complete the two-part application. 9 Greek Emerging Leader Application Information This award was designed to recognize emerging leadership potential from a fraternity and sorority member. The recipient of this award should show a strong interest in holding leadership positions within the chapter and in campus organizations. The criteria for this award are as follows: This award is open to all non-graduating members that will be active in their chapter in the academic year. Must exemplify the ideals that are the basis of fraternal values (scholarship, service, brotherhood/sisterhood, and interfraternalism) Must show a commitment to improving the Greek community at Elon University, through active participation in and out of the fraternity/sorority Must promote a positive image of Greek Life Must have attained a good balance of participation in all aspects of student life Must have demonstrated leadership ability Must be well respected by students, faculty, and staff Must have demonstrated a high level of integrity Each chapter may nominate three (3) members for this award. The criteria for this award are as follows: Must have served as a chapter or faculty advisor during the academic year Must exemplify the ideals that are the basis of fraternal values (scholarship, service, brotherhood/sisterhood, and interfraternalism) Must show a commitment to the undergraduate chapter through their involvement Must believe in the power of the fraternity and sorority experience Each chapter may nominate their chapter and/or faculty/staff advisor for this award. There is a section for the chapter to complete. Only one chapter and one faculty/staff advisor will be recognized at the Greek Awards Ceremony not one men s and women s advisor. 13 Greek Life Hall of Fame Induction Application Information This award is given to fraternity/sorority members that have represented the values and upstanding morals of their affiliation in other aspects of their life and/or career. All chapters may submit up to 5 names for consideration. Eligible inductees include: o Graduating Seniors who have made significant achievements in academics or co-curricular areas that are not fraternity or sorority-related. o Chapter Alumni who have made significant career or community achievements, and have shown great support and advocacy for Greek Life after graduation. o Faculty and Staff members who have made significant achievements in their career or community, and openly express their Greek affiliation.
