Her volunteer work started in 1992 when she and her husband Ron were asked by Fr. James Peiffer to compile death & cemetery records from It took them over 2 years to compile the list of over 7,000 graves, comparing records from our cemetery books, funeral home records, church records, newspaper obituaries and other listings. After finishing the death & cemetery records, Fr. Thomas Gorman asked Carol and Ron to compile the same kind of list from our wedding & baptism books. Some of the older records are in German, which needed to be translated. And there were countless entries that needed to be verified with other sources. When this was finished, 2 sets of binders were made, 1 for use at St. John s and 1 for the Delphos Public Library. It was during this project that the sign in front of the Church was installed. Again, Carol was asked for her help. Every week since the digital sign was installed Carol has kept us all informed of what s going on in our Parish by inputting all the information. When it was first installed she would have to come to the Rectory every time a change needed to be made. Eventually they came up with a way for her to do it from her home. It takes hours each week for her to type in the daily Focus quotes, meetings, weddings, funerals, 1-year anniversaries of funerals, wedding anniversaries and anything that is going on in our Parish. Carol is the one that comes up with all the cute animation & figures that you see at Christmas & other holidays. Before the Parish purchased Ministry Scheduler Pro, Carol would post the schedules for the Lectors,, etc. on our website as well as the bulletin. For those wishing to get our bulletin by , Carol makes sure that those are sent out. She also keeps cemetery records for our two cemeteries and posts this information to a public website. When the Church celebrated its sesquicentennial, Carol put together the booklet that was distributed. It included information on some of the windows & artifacts in the Church, including when they were installed and where they came from. For over 12 years Carol has helped proof read the bulletin every week. She does more than just check the spelling & grammar, she knows when all the meetings take place, what groups meet, when they meet and compares our information with what she s seen in the newspaper. Carol is so dedicated to helping that even when she was in the hospital she checked the bulletin on her tablet. We want to say THANK YOU Carol Kunz for all you do for our Church, as you use your Time and Talents to provide Treasures for our St. John s Parish.

5 LYNN S MUSIC NOTES John the Baptist tells us to Prepare the way of the Lord! John the Baptist is so relatable to musicians because we both are a voice crying in the wilderness sometimes. John is a bridge between the Old and New Testaments and musicians are a bridge when we preserve the old music and introduce the new. I think an important part to reflect on is that John the Baptist told us to PREPARE the way, not PLAN the way. As a liturgical musician, I do have to plan a lot. I was recently challenged to be a preparer and servant of the liturgy. The Mass is already planned out for us in the Roman Missal but musicians and other liturgical ministers are called to prepare parishioners to receive the plan of God. Prepare the Way! EMBRACE THE ADVENT SEASON WITH VIDEO'S FROM FORMED It s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, or, at least that s the assumption based on that familiar holiday song. But what does that look like at your house? Most of us anticipate the great sales at the mall on the day after Thanksgiving, string lights on the outside of our house, and decorate the inside of our homes. But how exactly are we preparing our hearts for the greatest gift we ve ever been given? Through an exploration of the mystery of the Incarnation, the Virgin Birth, and the events surrounding the arrival of Jesus, this Advent study offers an opportunity to experience the joy of the true meaning of Christmas. There are 4 video sessions, The Advent Series - One for each week of Advent! Last year, 331 children living in the Delphos school district were provided with toys and clothing and 150 fruit plates were delivered to our elderly and shut in residents. Food baskets were also provided for 147 families. The committee begins its work in early November. The names of those in need come in, the families are interviewed, and their needs are established. After this, the shoppers go to work! We deliver the gifts and fruit plates with the help of St. John and Jefferson students. Our delivery day this year will be Thursday, December 21st, The names of children needing clothing and toys, families needing food, and shut-ins to be remembered with a fruit plate, should be sent to: Delphos Community Christmas Project, General Delivery, Delphos, Ohio Monetary donations may also be sent to the same address. Thank you for helping the less fortunate in our community. Any questions or concerns may be directed to Edna Fischer, chairwoman ( ).
