2 VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT Mr. Chuck Ardner has been nominated for all the work he does for St. John s Parish. Mr. Ardner has been volunteering at church for over 10 years. He takes an active role in our weekday and weekend Masses. He is an Minister at the Wednesday noon Mass as well as the Saturday morning Mass. Mr. Ardner removes any old flower arrangements around the Altar, cleans out the pews and puts the Hymnals away after masses. He values a clean and neat church for all to enjoy. Mr. Ardner noticed the Holy Water Fonts were looking a little dirty. After discovering they were only being cleaned once a month, he took it upon himself to clean them once a week. He has now been cleaning the Baptismal Font and Holy Water Fonts for the last 10 years. Mr. Ardner said, This is a case of you seeing something that needs done and you just do it. We want to say THANK YOU to Mr. Chuck Ardner for all you do for our church, as you use your Time and Talents to provide Treasures for our St. John s Parish. 5 th Grade Recognition We would like to take time to recognize our 5th grade class for their continued commitment to their Faith, Education and Belief in God s Work. We start off saying Hosanna as Jesus enters Jerusalem and in the Gospel we shout Crucify Him. It s a perfect example of the power of peer pressure and mob mentality. Jesus is hailed as he triumphantly enters Jerusalem with people waving palms, but how fast things turn. Jesus is betrayed, tried, condemned, crucified and buried in the Gospel reading. When do I go with the crowd and give in to peer pressure or what s popular. May you have a blessed Holy Week and enjoy the special services offered as part of the Holy Triduum. EASTER LILY GARDEN It s that time of year. We will have our Easter Lily Garden in the church comprised of flowers purchased in honor of or in memory of a loved one. The cost of each plant is $ Please fill out this form and put it in the collection or return it to the Ministry Center by Monday, March 26, Purchaser s Name: In Memory of / In Honor of:

9 EASTER TRIDUUM TENEBRAE Wednesday, March 28th, :30 p.m. Come to this unforgettable Evening Prayer. Twelve candles will be extinguished, representing the apostles abandoning Our Lord. At the end of the psalms, songs and readings, you will hear the Strepitus. The sound reverberates like the earthquake at the tomb of Jesus. Though he suffers greatly Jesus will rise again. HOLY THURSDAY, March 29th, :30 p.m. This liturgy begins the Sacred Three Days. These three days have three services that are really one liturgy in three parts. The introductory rites begin the Mass on Holy Thursday. The service ends at the Easter Vigil. While Holy Thursday celebrates the institution of the Eucharist, it also reminds us that we must do some service to live the Gospel. Our reminder is the ritual of foot washing. At the end of Mass the altar is stripped and the Blessed Sacrament is presented for adoration. The church will be open until 10 p.m. GOOD FRIDAY, March 30th, :45 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. This is the only day of the year when a Mass is not permitted. Services at 1:45 and 7:30 include the Passion of St. John, collection for the Holy Land, Veneration of the Cross and Holy Communion. In commemoration of the three hours Jesus hung on the cross we begin with Stations of the Cross at 12 Noon presented by the 5th grade. High School students and Alumni will present songs and reflections on the Passion after the Stations. At 1:45 the priest and assembly will begin the traditional service in silence. The readings of prophecy and reflection of Christ s sufferings will bring us to the account of the Passion as St. John writes it. We are invited: Could you not watch with me? EASTER VIGIL March 31st, :30 p.m. LET US CELEBRATE OUR GREAT TESTIMONY TO THE RISEN CHRIST AND THE BAPTISM AND PROFESSION OF FAITH OF THOSE ENTERING OUR CHURCH. THEY ARE THE NEWEST DISCIPLES OF CHRIST RISING FROM THE DEAD. WE JOIN THEM IN BEING BORN AGAIN INTO THIS EASTER SEASON. COME JOYFULLY TO THE FEAST. EASTER SUNDAY April 1st, 2018 MASS AT 7:30, 9:15, 11:30 a.m. When you come to Mass this Sunday you will be renewing YOUR baptismal promises, your love for Jesus Christ, so that you will be united with those baptized Saturday Night. Enter in to the Resurrection of Jesus, his triumph over death and his love.
