Junior Parents: Sign Up for Senior Year Excited students in the Class of 2017 are eager to embark on their senior year, and we need lots of enthusiastic parents to join in the fun to help make it a great year. Please drop a note to this year's Grad Night and senior events coordinator Paula Parisi at paula.parisi5@gmail.com to let her know you'd like to help with senior year events. She will keep a list, then you'll hear from the lucky person who agrees to lead the 2017 committee. There are tons of fun tasks, so you're bound to find something to fit your particular skills and interests. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join in the fun. Juniors: Get Ready for Senior Portraits Senior year is almost here, and it all starts with senior portraits. The company that takes the official Foothill senior portraits, Studio One Photography, will be on campus Thursday, June 2 to schedule senior portrait appointments. Juniors can make appointments when they pick up their yearbooks that day. Check your schedules so that you can make an appointment that's convenient for you. Click here for the Studio One website if you prefer to call to make an appointment. All senior photos for the yearbook must be taken by Studio One. There is a roughly $28 fee for yearbook photos. Extra fees apply for extra poses and photo orders. The deadline to get senior pictures is in the fall, so don't delay getting yearbook photos. It's easiest to get senior pictures out of the way in the summer, so please plan ahead. Library Books: Turn 'Em in Now
It's time to check cluttered backpacks and messy bedrooms for any books that belong to the Foothill library. ALL books and media devices must be returned to the library no later than Friday, May 27. If your student has lost a library book, please have them check in the library to see how much is owed to clear any debt. Diplomas and next year's class schedules will be held if library materials are not returned and debts are not paid. Krispy Kreme Home Delivery: Order Now Celebrate the impending end of the school year with fresh Krispy Kreme Doughnuts delivered right to your home the morning of Saturday, June 4. It's a mere $10 to have a dozen glazed doughnuts delivered to your doorstep early the morning of June 4. Order a few dozen for yourself and more to be delivered to your favorite students, teachers and friends. It's a sweet way to celebrate. The cool part is that Foothill's award-winning cheer squads get $5 of every purchase made. Click here for the order form. Fill it out and give the form with payment to any cheerleader or drop orders and payments with teacher Trish Fenton in room D-2. All orders must be paid in advance. Checks should be made to Foothill High School. Cash is also accepted. The last day to order is Thursday, May 26. No late orders will be accepted. Questions? Contact Dana Tolari at dtolari@comcast.net or Danette Ondi at danette.o@comcast.net. Please note that all deliveries are limited to Pleasanton. Thank you for your support. Thank You for Supporting Teacher Luncheon A huge THANK YOU to the dozens of dedicated Foothill parents who took time out of their busy schedules to prepare delicious meals or volunteer their precious time to help with this year's teacher appreciation luncheon on Friday, May 6. Our incredibly appreciative teachers were treated to dozens upon dozens of delectable dishes including scrumptious salads, hearty entrees and delectable desserts. We served more than 110 grateful teachers and staff. There are too many volunteers to list, but you know who you are. Please know that your delicious foods and hard work are greatly appreciated. Special thanks to the PTSA hospitality
greatly appreciated. Special thanks to the PTSA hospitality committee members for their hard work and positive attitude in organizing this year's successful luncheon. Lunch Organizer Needed for Next Year We need at least one eager volunteer to be in charge of next year's teacher appreciation luncheon in May It's an easy job to tackle and quite gratifying because it makes so many people happy. If you'd like to take on this important and simple job, please drop a note to Kathy Soldati at soldati5@comcast.net. This is a great job to share with one or more friends, so grab someone to help. School Starts August 15: Plan Ahead for First Week The revised calendar for the Pleasanton school district has the school year starting on Monday, August 15. As with previous years, you must notify Foothill if your student will miss any days the first week of school. Please notify the Foothill office as soon as possible. AP Scores Online in July Students who took AP exams will be able to access their scores online in July. Please note that scores are no longer being mailed. Scores are available online only. Please click here for info about how to access scores online. There are steps that must be taken before you go online to access scores, so log in now to get that work out of the way. California scores will be posted at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5. Assessment Tests Next Week Juniors will take assessment tests this spring as part of the new California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress. Juniors will take English-language arts and math assessment tests May Sophomores have already taken their assessment tests. Click here for more info, including a link to online practice tests. 6 Royale, the annual fall gala fundraiser that benefits all programs at Foothill -- academics, athletics and band. We especially need at least one dedicated band parent to be in charge of the band's portion of the event. The job would include procuring items for the silent and live auctions. Grab a friend or two to share the duties and make the work more fun. We also need someone to be in charge of the online auction. Don't worry -- we'll show you how it's done. It's relatively easy. If you'd like to help, please drop a note to Falcon Royale coordinator Brenda McFarlane at brendamcfarlane@att.net. Band Notes: Spring Concerts & Freshmen Info Foothill's award-winning bands will be featured at several upcoming concerts in May: May Jazzin' for a Cure, 6 p.m., Dublin High School. Concert and symphonic bands and wind ensemble. Admission is $15. June 3 -- Marching band/senior recognition banquet, 6:30 p.m., MPR. Students free, adults $20. Incoming Freshmen Info Meetings Incoming freshman students and parents are invited to an informational meeting Tuesday, May 17 or Wednesday, May 18 at 7 p.m. in the Foothill band room. Families need to attend only one meeting, whichever is most convenient. The meeting will include info about marching band, color guard, percussion, concert band, jazz band, winter guard/percussion, concerts, fundraisers and volunteer opportunities. You'll get great info about events in the upcoming school year and how the Foothill band is organized and run. The meeting will be led by Foothill's band directors. 7 This is a fun job because students are all incredibly excited to be new graduates and heading out to an exciting weekend at Disneyland. If you'd like to help, please drop a note to Paula Parisi at paula.parisi5@gmail.com. She'll provide you with details on when and where to show up. The time commitment is minimal, but the help will be tremendously appreciated. Non-Senior Volunteers Needed for Graduation We need lots of enthusiastic non-senior parents to help at this year's graduation ceremony on Friday, June 10. Volunteering at graduation is a great way to get a sneak peek at what you can expect when your students are seniors. We have plenty of jobs before, during and after graduation: Monitor parking lot gates from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Take tickets at graduation entry points from 4:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Drive golf carts for handicapped attendees from 4:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Decorations (stage, tent, chairs, fencing) Please drop a note to Cheryl Mattingly at cmattingly@pleasantonusd.net to get your favorite volunteer job. Recruit your friends to volunteer with you. Sign Up for Talon Talk Senior News Graduation is just around the corner, which means we're now sending targeted s to senior families. It's super easy to sign up for the senior Talon Talk. Look at the bottom of this for Update Profile/ Address and click on that link. You'll get an that will give you prompts for updating your preferences. You're already on the Talon Talk list, so all you need to do is make sure you've also checked the box for the 2016 graduation year list -- and any other grad year lists for your younger kids. Be sure to save your changes. The Talon Talk senior s will go out on the first of each month with a special senior the week of graduation. Click here for the May 1 issue. Students: Apply to Be On School Board Sophomores and juniors are encouraged to apply for the open Foothill student position on the district board of education.
Student board members must attend every third school board meeting, study the issues in advance and serve as the student voice for the district. Student board members also meet once monthly with the superintendent. Students must turn in an application, resume and letters of recommendation from a teacher and administrator. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience in local government, represent all students and meet monthly with the superintendent to share idea and discuss student outreach. Click here for a flier with more info and the application form. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, May 24. Pick Up Meds from Health Office If your student has any medications or medical supplies in the health office, these items must be picked up by a parent or other designated adult before the last day of school on Friday, June 10. Students will not be allowed to take home their medications. A parent or other adult must do this. Any medication left after the last day of school will be taken to the district office for safe disposal. Medical Forms for Next Year New forms must be turned in each school year to allow students to have medications or medical supplies on campus. Click here to download the medication forms. Questions? Contact health clerk Chris Faubion at cfaubion@pleasantonusd.net. Summer School: Enrollment Now Open Students who need to make up courses required for high school graduation or college entry may sign up for summer school through June 3. Summer school is only for students who must retake classes in which they made a D or F. Click here for general info about summer school and the registration form. High school summer school will be held at Amador June 20 through July 28. Classes are held Monday through Thursday with two periods offered daily. Students must have their counselor's approval before enrolling in any summer classes, including college and online courses. Students who qualify will receive a written notification by mail.
notification by mail. Walk-Thru Volunteers Needed Get back into the groove for the new school year by helping out at walk-thru registration on Monday, August 8 and Tuesday, August 9. There are two-hour shifts available from noon to 6 p.m. both days. Pick your favorite shift or several shifts. Recruit friends to help to make the day more fun. We need adult volunteers only, please. No students. Click here for our handy online sign-up page to choose your favorite volunteer shifts. Walk-Thru Registration Be sure to mark your calendars for Monday, August 8 and Tuesday, August 9 for walk-thru registration for the school year. Registration starts in the small gym and ends in the multipurpose room. Monday, August 8 -- A-K A-B -- Noon to 1:30 p.m. C-D -- 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. E-H -- 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. I-K -- 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, August 9 -- L-Z L-M -- Noon to 1:30 p.m. N-R -- 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. S-T -- 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. U-Z -- 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Makeup registration will be Friday, August 12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the front office. School starts Monday, August 15. PPIE Giving Fund: Donate Early This year's PPIE Giving Fund, which actually collects money for next school year, was a rousing success, bringing in more than $470,000 for all schools in the district. Pleasanton Partnerships in Education (PPIE) is already accepting donations for next year's giving fund, which will benefit the school year. It's a bit confusing, but PPIE must work a year in advance to collect funds for the upcoming school year. Pleasanton's generous families donated $470,223 with only 16 percent participation. Imagine how the fund would grow if everyone donates just a little bit -- or a lot.
everyone donates just a little bit -- or a lot. Your donations helped save four instructional coaching positions, supported the 5th-grade band and strings programs and returned funds to the middle and high schools for technology. Click here to donate to the Giving Fund. Look for the green "donate now" link. Deadlines for Talon Talk article submissions are the 10th and 22nd of each month. Please include all pertinent info -- who, what, where, when, why and, if applicable, how much does it cost. Talon Talk is a twice monthly online publication brought to you the 1st and 15th of each month by the Foothill Parent- Teacher-Student Organization (PTSA) in cooperation with school administration.
