The 2010 Leadership workshop and O+P in San Diego This summer, Beryl Yu, on behalf of our chapter, attended the Leadership workshop and O+P held by SPIE in San Diego, CA with officers from other student chapters, during 1 Auguest to 7 Auguest 2010.

3 2. Voluntary activity During the meeting SPIE Photonics Asia held by SPIE and COS from 18 October to 20 October 2010, many students have submitted papers and gave oral or poster presentation. We also served as the volunteers to help the chairmen of the meeting keep all the related facilities work in good condition together with the members from Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT).

4 3. Designed and made flag of our chapter This year, in order to enlarge the influence of our chapter and to do activities better, we designed and made the flag of our chapter. The following picture shows the logos printed on the flag. 4. New Members Recruitment On 10 October 2010, we have a meeting on recruiting new members. I introduced the SPIE and the Student Chapter in our university o the freshmen, called on them to be a part of the chapter because we can enjoy ourselves a lot to be SPIE student members. After the meeting, more than 30 students chose to join our chapter. 5. The new member welcomes activity On September 27 th 2010, in order to welcome the 30 new chapter members, all the members went for mountaineering.

5 6. Participate in the activities held by other student chapters We went to Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) to the lectures gave by Prof. Xiaoyi Bao and Prof. Brian Culshaw on 23 November 2009 and 29 April 2010, respectively. We also have been to Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) to attend the lecture given by Prof. Brian Culshaw on 21 October 2010.

6 7. Chapter officer meeting: On 13 November 2010, the officers have a meeting on student chapter activities the next year and decide what projects we are going to prepare for the coming month. We also have a discussion on how to improve the working of our Chapter. We decided to hold a meeting in 19 November and the new club Officers will be work on it. 8. The annual symposium with other chapters On 10 December 2010, the SPIE student club held the 2010 academic symposium together with the Beijing Univ. of Posts and Telecommunications Club, Beijing Jiaotong Univ. Club. More than 50 chapter members attended the meeting. We invited 6 reports given by our members and student of the other clubs. All the students enjoyed their time in exchanging updated information of optics and optical engineering.
