She was Director of Boston University Shanghai Center. As director she was responsible for all academic, administrative, and financial responsibilities for the planning and operation of Boston University s Shanghai Center in China. She worked in cooperation with Boston University s academic and administrative offices in the United States and with Fudan University in Shanghai to ensure that students studying abroad had a successful academic, social, and cultural experience in China. Her research interests are Revolution in China, Gender and Chinese Society, History and Memory, Chinese Urban History, Chinese Civilization and East Asian History. Eriberto P. Lozada Jr. (Ph.D. in Social Anthropology, Harvard University) is Associate Professor of Anthropology and Director of East Asian Studies at Davidson College. He is also the President of the Society for East Asian Anthropology (USA, 0-0). Prof. Lozada's research topics include contemporary issues in Chinese society ranging from: religion and politics; food, popular culture and globalization; sports and society issues; and the cultural impact of science and technology. His current research is in coastal and marine environmental studies and sustainable aquaculture. He has written many articles, and has also written God Aboveground: Catholic Church, Postsocialist State, and Transnational Processes in a Chinese Village (Stanford University Press, 00). Benoit Vermander Edward O. Laumann Benoit Vermander holds a doctorate in political science from Institut d Etudes Politique and a doctorate in theology from the Jesuit faculties of Paris. He is now a Research Fellow and Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy, Fudan University. He is also an Associate Researcher at Asia Centre, sciences-po Paris. Dr. Vermander s research has been focused on religious studies. He has published extensively on Chinese religions and interreligious encounters in East Asia, as well as on sustainable development and cultural diversity in the Chinese world. Cai Yong Cai Yong (Ph.D. in Sociology, University of Washington) is Assistant, and Faculty Fellow of Carolina Population Center, at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. His research interest ranges from social demography, to comparative sociology, and to sociology of health with a theme on the interplay of social forces and demographic variables. His publications appear on American Sociological Review, Demography, Population and Development Review, and American Journal of Preventive Medicine Chen Xiangming Chen Xiangming (Ph.D. Duke) is founding Dean and Director of the Center for Urban and Global Studies and Paul E. Raether Distinguished Professor of Global Urban Studies and Sociology at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, as well as Honorary Research Fellow at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences and the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences. His articles have appeared in major urban studies and international social science journals and two dozen edited books. Chen has served on the board of trustees of the Alfred Herrhausen Society, the International Forum of Deutsche Bank, and the advisory board of the Urban Age project based at the London School of Economics. He has served as President of the North American Chinese Sociologists Association and on the Council for the Community and Urban Sociology Section of the American Sociological Association. Edward O. Laumann received his Ph.D. in Sociology from Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass. Prof. Laumann is George Herbert Mead Distinguished Service, University of Chicago. He has acted as the editor of the American Journal of Sociology, chair of the department of sociology, dean of the division of social sciences, provost of the University of Chicago, Referee of European Research Council, and is currently the director of the Ogburn Stouffer Center for Population and Social Organization. Prof. Laumann's many research interests include research on human sexuality among older Americans, cross-nationally (in countries and in China), sexuality in urban places, the spread of sexually transmitted infections vis sexual networks, subjective well-being, quality of life, and health status, social networks in various social contexts, and the urban legal profession. Laumann's current research projects include the National Survey of Sexual Practices in China (Co-Principle Investigator); the National Social Health and Aging Project, which surveys 000 men and women aged to in the U.S. (Co-Principle Investigator); analyst for the Global Study of Sexual Attitudes and Behavior, a survey of,00 men and women 0 to 0 years of age in countries around the world; and a 0 year followup study of the legal profession in Chicago (Co-Principle Investigator). Kjell Nilsson Kjell Nilsson is a PhD in (Social Work and Social Policy. Currently he is a senior lecturer at the Department of Sociology at Lund University. His main fields of research and teaching are: social policy, knowledge utilisation, economic sociology, sociology of organisations, evaluation research, globalisation and social transformation, and internationalisation of higher education. His PhD dissertation was a comparative study of the utilisation of social scientific research by policymakers and practitioners in the fields of social welfare, housing policy and labour market. He has held a number of management positions at Lund University and coordinated a number of international projects. He is currently Director of the European University Centre at Peking University

She is Professor of Anthropology at the University of Virginia and Davidson College, Davidson, N.C. Since she has directed Davidson s summer academic program in the West African nation of Ghana. She received a Fulbright Fellowship in -000 to study African Americans who recently repatriated to that country. Prof. Fairley s research interests are Atlantic African cultures and civilizations, gender gap and family, Diaspora Africans (North and South America, Caribbean). Wang Feng (Ph.D. in Sociology, University of Michigan) is the Director of Brookings-Tsinghua Center, and a Senior Fellow of Foreign Policy, Global Economy and Development of John L. Thornton China Center. He is also a at the University of California, Irvine (on leave). Professor Wang s main research areas include population and economics, social inequality, and historical comparative demography. He has conducted research at the East West Center and taught at the University of Hawaii. Professor Wang s main publications include One Quarter of Humanity, Malthusian Mythology and Chinese Realities, (Harvard University Press ) and Boundaries and Categories, Rising Inequality in Post-Socialist Urban China (Stanford University Press, 00). Naran Bilik Zhu Jianxin Naran Bilik reveived his Ph.D. in Literature from Minzu University of China. His research areas are linguistic anthropology, ethnicity and race, culture change; minority education, Inner Asia study, and East Asia study. Professor. Bilik was the Bernstein Chair of Asian Studies and Anthropology, Carleton College in the United States from 00 to 00. He was the Head of Department of Sociocultural Anthropology of Institute of Ethnology & Anthropology, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (-00). He is currently Distinguished Professor of Fudan University, Associate Dean of Fudan Institute for Advanced Study in Social Sciences, and China Ministry of Education Changjiang Chair Professor at Guizhou Normal College. Qian Zhengchao Dr. Zhu Jianxin graduated from Fudan University, China in, majoring in English and American Literature.
