Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest invites high school students from across the nation to write an original essay about an elected official who has demonstrated political courage. The contest is companion program of the Profile in Courage Award, named for President Kennedy s 1957 Pulitzer Prize-winning book, Profiles in Courage, which recounts the stories of eight senators, the obstacles they faced, and the special valor they demonstrated despite the risks. Winning essayists will receive awards totaling up to $13,500. The first-place winner will be invited to accept the award at the Profile in Courage Award Ceremony hosted each May at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston. To encourage student leadership and civic engagement, the nominating teacher of the first-place winner will receive a John F. Former Commissioner Louis Stout of the KHSAA memorial fund awards two one-time scholarships in the amount of $2000 payable to an institution of higher learning. Deadline: February 1, 2016 Commissary Scholarship: Commissaries are an integral part of the quality of life offered to service members and their families. The Scholarships for

4 Military Children Program was created in recognition of the contributions of military families to the readiness of the fighting force and to celebrate the role of the commissary in the military family community. It is the intent of the program that a scholarship funded through contributions be awarded annually for each commissary operated by the Defense Commissary Agency worldwide. Any minority (African-American, Hispanic) seniors in high school who has excelled in academics, leadership, and service, may apply for the Jackie Robinson Foundation scholarship award, a four-year scholarship that pays up to $7,500 per year for students to attend a four year college or university of their choice. Each student selected for a scholarship receives financial grants and internships, along with job placement, mentoring and leadership development services. Army Engineer Spouse's Club- two awards are available. Scholarships are open and available to any graduating high school senior who is a citizen of the United States and whose sponsor, parent, or legal guardian is an U.S. Army Engineer (active duty, retired, or deceased), National Guard U.S. Army Engineer, Reserve U.S. Army Engineer, or current Department of the Army employee of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and a current member in good standing of the Army Engineer Spouses Club (AESC). The Major Samuel Woodfill Chapter announces its 2015 Scholarship Program for Children and Spouses of U.S. Army Soldiers in the Global War on Terrorism, Army Soldiers and Army Veterans who are currently serving or have served in the Global War on Terrorism, and Family Members of AUSA Members who belong to the Major Samuel Woodfill Chapter in that priority. Also priority is given to residents of Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio. $1,000 scholarships will be awarded for the academic year. The Kentucky Federation of Republican Women is offering a $1000 scholarship to a college-bound high school senior girl. The Fort Knox Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is now accepting applications for the Blondell E. Williams annual scholarship. This scholarship will be awarded to an African American high school student who has demonstrated excellence academically and in the community. The Xi Xi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc Scholarship is open to local male and female African American High school seniors who plan on attending a college or university. Winn Companies Winning Edge Scholarship Program offers financial support to high school seniors who reside at an apartment community or military base which is professionally managed by WinnCompanies (WC) or its affiliates. The Fort Knox Chapter of The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) is offering one $1500 scholarship and ten $1,000 scholarships to area students. See your guidance counselor for an application. Deadline: April 1. SGT Audie Murphy Club (SAMC) Scholarship is offering a scholarship to a Fort Knox, Hardin Co., or Meade Co. senior. The BlueStar Scholarships program was established specifically for the sons and daughters of Service Members who live in a Lend Lease privatized military community and attend Fort Knox High School. Four different Fort Knox High School seniors will receive a one-time $5000 scholarship if selected. Seniors must reside in a Lend Lease home and have at least a 2.0 GPA. 8 Hardin Co Bar Association is offering (2) $1000 scholarships to a local senior from Fort Knox, Hardin Co, or Elizabethtown. One will be a senior; one will be to a senior involved in teen court. Applicants should have a Grade point average between 2.5 and 3.5; those who do not otherwise qualify for significant aid or scholarships; and have shown an interest in some aspect of the law. DID NOT HAPPEN IN 2016 Central Kentucky Community Action Council will award a scholarship of $500 to seniors who plan to enter the fields of Social Services, Business, Agriculture, Education, or Medicine. The News-Enterprise Scholarship has a $1000 scholarship awarded to 1 senior at Fort Knox High school who plans on majoring in Journalism or Communication in college. DID NOT HAPPEN IN 2016 The American Legion Hardin Post 113 Ladies Auxiliary will offer a $750 scholarship to area seniors who plan on attending a college, university, or vocational school. The Local Scholarship Committee sponsored by the Armor Center Civic League will be offering a scholarship to a senior who plans to continue his or her education at a college, university, or vocational school.
