This month s issue highlights some of those merchants. During your next shopping trip or dining outing, please stop by the customer service desk and ask if they give out scholarships or visit the websites of your favorite stores and/or restaurants. Below is a list of merchants that are not listed in this issue but who have been known to give out scholarships in the past. 2 Merchant Scholarships Burger King Scholars Program Award Amount: $1,000 - $50,000 Deadline: December 15, 2016 Website: Description: Created in memory of BURGER KING Co-founder James Jim W. McLamore, the BURGER KING Scholars program has awarded $28.3 million in scholarships to more than 26,800 high school students, BK employees and their families across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico since In 2016 alone, the Foundation awarded $3 million to more than 2,800 students in North America. Scholarship grants range from $1,000 to $50,000 and are intended to help students offset the cost of attending college or post-secondary vocational/technical school. Recipients are selected based on their grade point average (GPA), work experience, extracurricular activities and community service. Primarily funded by the BURGER KING system and guests through annual fundraising activities, scholarships are awarded in the spring of each year. Our ultimate goal? To provide one $1,000 scholarship for every BURGER KING restaurant in North America that s more than $7 million each year! 3 Foot Locker Scholar Athletes Program Award Amount: $20,000 Deadline: December 16, 2016 Website: Description: Foot Locker will be awarding $20,000 college scholarships to outstanding student athletes who demonstrate exceptional academic ability and strong leadership skills in sports, school and within their communities. Be a current high school senior entering a four year, accredited US college or university in the fall of 2017 Be currently a member (in good standing) of a high school sports team or be involved in after-school sports Have maintained an unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher from 9th grade to the first semester of 12th grade Be a U.S. citizen or U.S. Permanent Legal Resident Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) U.S. Scholarship Program Award Amount: TBA Deadline: January 18, 2017 Website: Description: Students across the country work hard to earn top marks, dreaming of the college they'll attend and the education they'll receive. Unfortunately, many of these students won t be able to afford it. We want these students to reach their full potential. To help them accomplish this, our network of U.S. Chapters, along with the global office of RMHC, offer scholarships to students in financial need who have demonstrated academic achievement, leadership and community involvement. Since 1985, more than $60 million in scholarships have been awarded. 4 College Based Scholarships Molloy College Freshman Scholarships Molloy Scholars Program Award Amount: Full Tuition Deadline: December 15, 2016 Website: Description: A limited number of full tuition scholarships are available for entering first semester full-time freshman. Awards are based on academic achievement and college aptitude tests scores. These awards are competitive. Scholarships are renewable annually. Molloy College Humanities Scholarship Award Amount: up to $5,000 Deadline: February 8, 2017 Website: Description: The aim of this scholarship is to offer financial support to incoming freshmen and to encourage dedicated and deserving students to further their studies in other cultures and languages and/or in the Humanities in general. Must be a senior in high school Have at least two years of language other than English at the high school level Be a humanities major entering Molloy College in Fall 2017 Molloy College Community Service Award Award Amount: Partial Tuition Deadline: March 1, 2017 Website: Description: Partial tuition awards ranging from $500 to $5,000 per year awarded to entering full-time freshmen who demonstrate a commitment to their community and school. Interested students must file a community service scholarship application, which is available in the Office of Admissions and on our website. Scholarships are renewable annually. Molloy Dominican Academic Scholarships Award Amount: Partial Tuition Deadline: March 1, 2017 Website: Description: These partial tuition scholarships, ranging from $4,000 to $20,000 are based on academic achievement. 5 Molloy Fine Arts Scholarships Award Amount: Partial to Full Tuition Website: Description: Awards ranging from partial to full tuition scholarships for entering full-time freshmen who are adjudged to have exceptional talent, or have achieved proficiency in art or music. Qualifications are demonstrated through audition, the submission of a portfolio, or other documented experience. Recipients must major in the areas for which the scholarships are awarded. Scholarships are renewable annually. Molloy Funded Scholarships Award Amount: Partial Tuition Website: Description: A large number of funded partial tuition scholarships are available for entering freshmen. Eligible candidates will be identified by the Office of Admissions. Wesleyan University The Wesleyan University Hamilton Prize for Creativity Award Amount: Full Tuition Deadline: January 1, 2017 Website: Description: All incoming first-year students are eligible to apply for the prize, which will be awarded to the student whose work of creative written expression is judged to best reflect the originality, artistry, and dynamism embodied in Broadway s Hamilton. To qualify for the prize, the recipient must be accepted to and enroll full-time at Wesleyan University for the school year. Interested students can apply online at wesleyan.edu/admission. 6 Stony Brook University The Japan Center at Stony Brook Essay Competition Award Amount: up to $3,000 Deadline: January 8, 2017 Website: Description: The Japan Center at Stony Brook (JCSB) is delighted to announce their 12 th Annual JCSB Essay Competition at Stony Brook University, sponsored by Canon U.S.A. The aim of this essay competition is to promote awareness and understanding of Japan in the United States and to help young Americans broaden their international horizons. There will be three Best Essay Awards ($3,000 for the first place) and multiple additional awards. This competition is open to all high school students in the New York Metropolitan areas. 8 Island Drafting & Technical Institute Island Drafting & Technical Institute Scholarship Program for High School Seniors Award Amount: $2,500 Deadline: September 2017 Website: Description: Each high school may select three students for scholarships at Island Drafting & Technical Institute. This scholarship provides a $2,500 award to each student, which can be applied toward the daytime session Associate Degree program in Computer Aided Drafting and Design or Electronic and Computer Service Technology. 9 Scholarships Due in December 2017 National Space Club and Foundation Keynote Scholarship Award Amount: $10,000 Deadline: December 2, 2016 Website: Description: Since 2013, The National Space Club and Foundation has offered the opportunity for a student to give the keynote address at the National Space Club and Foundation s annual Goddard Memorial Dinner, one of the space industry s most prestigious gatherings. The student must intend to pursue a career in the Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) fields, be academically strong and excel in public speaking. In addition to speaking at the Goddard Memorial Dinner, the individual selected will also receive a scholarship, in the amount of $10,000. The applicant must be a U.S. citizen The scholarship is open to seniors in high school through graduate students The applicant must have the intention of pursuing a career in the STEM fields and plan to attend an accredited U.S. college or university to follow a course of study to pursue a career in the STEM field, with a preference for those with space related interests The applicant can only use the $10,000 scholarship towards tuition for the academic year The applicant must not have previously spoken at the Dr. Robert H. Goddard Memorial Dinner The applicant may apply for any of the scholarships offered by the National Space Club and Foundation (Robert H. Goddard Memorial Scholarship, Olin E. 10 The Solutionreach Scholarship Award Amount: $2,000 Deadline: December 4, 2016 Website: Description: In 2000, Solutionreach introduced the world of healthcare to revolutionary tools which would help healthcare providers across a broad spectrum of specialties to communicate more conveniently and effectively with all their patients. We believe in the ripple effect: that by helping the right person, we can extend the reach to many others in the community. Our goals for improving health care involve increasing patient education through technology. The Solutionreach scholarship gives students the opportunity to benefit their education while helping us to share the message of the value of patient relationship management. Complete a copy of the Content Contribution Agreement Provide a brief bio introducing the applicant and including the name of the applicant s school and expected graduation date. This bio may include any additional information the applicant wishes to share such as why they are applying for the scholarship, their major, etc. Send the essay, completed Content Contribution Agreement, and brief bio in.docx or PDF format to scholarship@solutionreach.com Students under the age of 17 must have a parent or guardian sign the Content Contribution Agreement Failure to abide by these guidelines or to provide all the requested materials will result in the essay being disqualified The Solutionreach scholarship is awarded only to one winner. Past scholarship recipients are not eligible to enter in the future QuitDay Scholarship Award Amount: up to $2,000 Deadline: December 9, 2016 Website: Description: With the QuitDay.org Scholarship, we want to challenge current and prospective college students to share their story on how we can make the world smoke-free. Every year, we select three winners in the essay contest. The winners will receive awards toward their tuition at their respective colleges and universities. The winning applicants for first, second and third place receive scholarships in the amounts of $2,000, $700 and $300, respectively. The scholarship awards may only be used to pay for college tuition and/or education-related expenses. There are no costs associated with submitting an application for this scholarship. 11 AXA Achievement Scholarship Award Amount: $2,500, $10,000 or $25,000 Deadline: December 15, 2016 Website: Description: The AXA Achievement Scholarship provides over $1.4 million in scholarships to young people throughout the nation representing all 50 states, Washington, DC and Puerto Rico. Students have the opportunity to receive a $2,500, $10,000 or $25,000 scholarship. In addition, for every student who wins a scholarship, a grant in the amount of $1,000 will be made to the winner s school. United States citizens or legal residents Current High School Seniors who plan to enroll full-time in an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the United States for the entire academic year Demonstrate ambition and self-drive as evidenced by outstanding achievement in school, community or work-related activities Green Home Improvement Scholarship Award Amount: $1,000 Deadline: December 15, 2016 Website: Description: HomeAdvisor s green home improvement scholarship challenges students to come up with innovative ideas and thoughts towards green homes and energy-efficient improvements. Our goal is to hopefully help future students make changes and innovations in the green home improvement industry. This scholarship intends to serve as the first step towards those changes. These awards encourage and recognize our youth as the next generation of family historians. High school students in grades or between the ages of NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award Award Amount: TBA Deadline: December 18, 2016 Website: Description: Are you a young entrepreneur? Graduating high school seniors who operate their own small business are eligible to receive a 2017 NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award from the NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation. Walsh WE CARE Scholarship Award Amount: at least $1,000 Deadline: January 15, 2017 Description: The WE CARE Fund annually awards scholarships in varying amounts from at least $1,000 each to high school seniors who reside and attend school in Nassau County. Through the scholarship, the Nassau County Bar Association WE CARE Fund seeks to reward deserving students who, by way of charitable service to their school and their community, exemplify the spirit of WE CARE. U.S. Citizen and Nassau County resident Full-Time secondary school senior currently enrolled in a Nassau County high school; and Planning to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution National Beta Scholarship Program Award Amount: up to $15,000 Deadline: January 26, 2017 Website: Description: Even for students as accomplished as our members, paying for college likely won t be an easy task. But Beta could be a huge help. Website: Description: This year, through the National Co-op Scholarship Program, we will award 175 merit scholarships totaling $4.5 million. Students who are applying to one of the ten institutions listed in the scholarship brochure (Clarkson University, Drexel University, Johnson & Wales University, Merrimack College, Rochester Institute of Technology, State University of New York Oswego, The University of Toledo, University of Cincinnati and University of Massachusetts Lowell) can apply for one of these scholarships simply by visiting our website, and completing an online version of the form or by completing and mailing the form included in the scholarship brochure (available in the Guidance Department). 16 Scholarships Due in March Island Christian Church Award Amount: Two $2,000 scholarships and up to four $750 High Honorable Mention scholarships Deadline: March 3, 2017 Website: Description: Island Christian Church wishes to promote genuine character development in the youth of our community. While the church has a very active youth ministry and outreach, it is our desire to reach beyond the confines of our church community, to the community-at-large, in order to recognize and reward young people of proven and genuine character. The American Heritage Scholarship is awarded to two graduating seniors, one male and one female, for Long Island students whose lives exemplify genuine character and promote the Scriptural values upon which our country was founded. Nearly $200,000 in scholarships has been awarded since The LI2Day Scholarship is designed to provide a one-time award of $2,500 to a high school senior who resides with a parent or guardian who is a survivor of breast cancer and/or other women s cancer or resided with a parent or guardian who has passed from breast cancer and/or other women s cancer. A resident of Nassau or Suffolk County, New York A graduating senior, and Have applied and received acceptance to either a two- or four-year College or University, and Reside with a parent or guardian who is a survivor of breast cancer and/or other women s cancer or resided with a parent or guardian who passed from breast cancer and/or other women s cancer The Maria A. Sciara Scholarship Award Amount: $2,000 Deadline: April 1, 2017 Website: Description: The Maria A. Sciara Scholarship, administered by the LI2Day Walk, is designed to provide a one-time award of $2,000 to a high school senior who resides with a parent or guardian who is a survivor of cancer or has resided with a parent or guardian who has passed from cancer (other than breast cancer or other women s cancer). Aspiring teachers will be given extra consideration, but it is no longer the criteria to apply for the scholarship.
