2 College Scholarship Programs Since 2010 Karate Five in partnership with Foster Chapel Baptist Church s (FCBC) Education Ministry has contributed to the FCBC College Scholarship Program and/or awarded Karate Five Continuing Education Scholarship awards. Although the Karate Five Continuing Education Scholarships are not awarded on an annual basis due to availability of funds; however, Karate Five has been able to contribute to the FCBC scholarship fund as well as award Continuing Education Scholarships every year since In June 2017 during Foster Chapel s morning service honoring high school and college graduates, scholarships were also awarded to recipients from Foster Chapel Baptist Church and Karate Five. Ayanna Troutman was this year s Karate Five Continuing Education Scholarship recipient. Ayanna is the daughter of Dwayne Troutman, one of Karate Five s staff leadership team. Karate Five is a not-for-profit organization; therefore scholarships are only awarded annually if funds are available in our budget. Below are the names of the recipients since 2010 of Karate Five s Continuing Education Scholarship awards: 2010 Kim Talley first recipient of Foster Chapel Baptist Church (FCBC) Education Ministry and Karate Five s Annual Scholarship Award (in honor of John Roberts, owner of Scruggs Barbeque) 2011 Karate Five donated funds to the FCBC Education Scholarship Fund 2012 Darren Durham recipient of Karate Five Continuing Education Scholarship award 2013 Darren Durham recipient of Karate Five Continuing Education Scholarship award 2014 Kenneth Slim Jenkins recipient of Karate Five Continuing Education Scholarship award 2015 Kayla Torra recipient of Karate Five Continuing Education Scholarship award 2016 Ayanna Troutman recipient of Karate Five Continuing Education Scholarship award 2017 Ayanna Troutman recipient of Karate Five Continuing Education Scholarship award

This scholarship is based on the availability of funds only and is not an annual sponsored scholarship but fortunately for our recipients, Karate Five has been able to award the scholarship for the last two (2) years. In 2010 a scholarships was presented for $600 to recipient and this year another $600 scholarship was awarded in Even though books and tuition are covered by scholarship. Master Mason best described the realities of these real expenses which affect a student financially as he recalled to member of FCBC and K-5 at a scholarship presentation of being in a similar situation back in He explained how being able to go to a movie or visit the local snack bar can makes life much more pleasant for a student facing the harsh demands of class schedules and educational expenses. These small emotional respites can make a big difference in the lives of students, Mason emphasized, there are many other expenses which students encounter while obtaining an education that are not always covered by tuition.

6 On May 9, 2010, Karate 5 in joint sponsor with Foster Chapel Baptist Church's Scholarship program presented the Karate 5 Continuing Education Scholarship to its first recipient, Ms. Kim Talley. (Left) First Annual Scholarship awarded in Honor of John Roberts, Owner of Scruggs Barbeque. The scholarship was awarded in honor of Mr. John Roberts, owner of Scruggs Barbeque on Magnolia Avenue, Knoxville, TN and a long time permanent business man in the East Knoxville community for many years. Mr. Roberts has always been a big supporter, sponsor and patron of Karate Five and its program to help the inner city children. As strong community leaders, Karate Five Association knows firsthand the benefits of a continuing education assistance. Karate Five s scholarship is the only scholarship open to nonmembers. To date, Karate Five has still been able to award its Continuing Education Scholarship.
