2 Navigating Your Way Through a Jungle of Compliance Codes As you know, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Requirements for Participation were revised to reflect the substantial advances which have been made over the past several years in the theory and practice of service delivery and safety. As a result, long term care professionals are hiking through a jungle of new compliance codes and regulations. Attendees will visit the LNHA Trade Show where our Jungle Rangers will showcase products and services that make providing quality care to nursing facility residents more efficient and effective. This Trade Show is sure to be wild, so swing over and join us for a roaring good time! Louisiana Nursing Home Association represents long term care providers and professionals offering long term health care. LNHA s annual convention combines education for attendees through seminars and the opportunity to view new products and services with networking opportunities, which afford exhibitors the opportunity to market their products and services. The seminars offered to attendees attract owners, administrators, department heads, and other facility personnel. With the new quality initiatives and regulations, all disciplines will need education on these topics. There will be opportunities for attendees to meet with vendors. These opportunities include a Meet & Greet on the first night where vendors and attendees can come together. Exhibits officially open on Thursday, September 8 th at 7:30 a.m. with breakfast in the hall and will close later that evening with a reception in the hall as well. Many of LNHA s exhibitors have been around for years. We thank them for their loyalty and look forward to seeing their familiar faces. All attendees are encouraged to make every effort to visit with exhibitors and thank them for their support of the Association as well as the innovative products they have to offer to our profession. Register each individual attending from your facility. Registrants can now pay online with a credit card. If you wish to pay by check, make your check payable to the Louisiana Nursing Home Association. Mail the check to 7844 Office Park Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA Phone, and fax requests for registration are no longer accepted. You are encouraged to register early in order to expedite your time spent at the registration desk. If you register onsite, you can pay with a check, credit card, money order or cash. Remember, security will not allow you to enter the Trade Show Hall without a name badge. Guest Ticket Only available for nursing facility and nursing facility management company guests. The guest ticket includes admission to all social functions. Refund & Cancellation Policy Registrations will not be accepted after Tuesday, August 28, You will have to register onsite after this date. Any cancellations received ten business days before the event will be entitled to a full refund. Cancellations received after this date will be assessed a fee of half the registration fee. With more than three million people affected annually and more than 60,000 deaths from pressure ulcers or injuries, it is clear why the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) continues to focus on this health outcome. This session will explore how pressure ulcers are included in the quality measures and how they can affect your bottom line. Panelists will include staff from the Office of Behavioral Health, the Office of Aging and Adult Services and LDH legal experts. The opening remarks will reference the Department of Justice Agreement with LDH which has mandated most of the recent changes. They will complete the following tasks: 1. Properly identify and prioritize the need for PIPs 2. Identify and use measurable data to set and assess goals 3. Write, implement, track, wrap-up and end PIPs 4. Administrators and owners will learn what types of expenditures are related to reimbursement and when to spend or when to pass. (Nurses, SSDs and RADs) Knowing your Residents Before you Provide Care Peter Green, RN, CareRise and Jeff DeMars, BSW, MCCS, NFA Properly assessing your residents before admission and after admission can reduce potential problems for your facility. This presentation will discuss the spectrum of information necessary to provide a complete assessment of the resident before and after admission. This session will analyze the similarities and distinctions of advanced directives and LaPost, as well as review a recent Attorney General opinion discussing LaPost. 10:00 a.m. 11:30 a.m. Managing Substance Issues in the Long-Term Care Arena Jeff DeMars, BSW, MCCS, NFA Managing substance abuse issues in the long-term care arena is a creative presentation designed to assist the learner in identifying the increasing prevalence of substance abuse among older & disabled adults who live in the nursing facility.
