PICKING THE RIGHT ELECTRONIC CHARTING SYSTEM FOR YOUR FACILITY Presented by Nancy Annegers Facility staff working with electronic documentation systems may feel they are getting everything they need from the system or they may feel they have gaps that need to be filled. Almost all systems can be adapted to meet the requirements and demands of the provider. The problem is that many providers may not have the knowledge or understanding of the systems they have in place. From a user s perspective, this session will help you learn what to look for, what to ask for, and how to have your system adapt as regulatory requirements continue to change. Nancy Annegers, BSN, Heritage Enterprises PHARMACOGENETICS Presented by Andre Johnson Pharmacogenetics (PGX) is the study of genetic differences or variations in metabolic pathways which can affect individual responses to drugs, both in terms of therapeutic effect as well as adverse effects. This session will show how PGX testing enhances a physician s ability to provide appropriate treatment plans while also reducing clinical liability and providing numerous patient benefits. What is staff supposed to do if they find themselves in this situation since protecting staff and residents is the provider s responsibility? This session will review steps that providers can take to lessen the risk and control these situations. Tom Smith, Retired EMA CHUG Associate WOUND CARE COMPLIANCE Presented by Jennifer Anderson This program will review practices for preventing wound infections, discuss the levels of bioburden presence from contamination to infection, identify the pervasiveness of infections from local to systemic, and associate the importance of correct identification of bacteria for antibiotic stewardship in relation to wound infections, as required by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. This program will support components of your Infection Prevention and Control Program in your facility. Federal Regulations and reporting requirements from the State Operations Manual, the Federal Register (October 2016), the Resident Assessment Instrument and the standards of care for best clinical practices will inform this presentation. Jennifer Anderson, AMT Wound Care DIFFICULT BEHAVIOR IN THE LTC SETTING Presented by Steve Greenwald Difficult behaviors are one of the most challenging aspects of LTC. Providers struggle with how to handle situation between residents and assessing incidents for possible abuse. This session will cover behavioral causal factors (assessment) including forms of psychopathology. Attendees will get a better understanding of dementia, dementia care principles and challenges related to dementia, e.g., communication. Non-pharmacological interventions and regulatory changes addressing Behavioral Health Services will also be addressed. Bill Bell is the regulatory director for the Illinois Health Care Association and was Deputy Associate Director of the Illinois Department of Public Health for nearly three decades. Matt Hartman is the VP of Public Policy for the Illinois Health Care Association. DHS/IDPH DD FACILITY UPDATE Presented by Michael Bibo This session provides an overview of the primary IDPH survey, DHS reimbursement, marketplace and legal developments and trends in facilities serving clients with developmental disabilities. Mike Bibo is the President of the Center for Developmental Disabilities Advocacy and Community Supports. HOT TOPICS AND TRENDS IN ALF/SLF Presented by Neville Bilimoria This session will provide the latest information on Assisted Living and Supportive Living Facilities in Illinois. The latest trends in litigation, including federal and state public policy trends, and regulatory developments. Neville Bilimoria is a partner with Duane Morris, LLP, and was named one of the top 40 attorneys in Illinois under 40 in And a Leading Lawyer in healthcare law. 10:00 11:30 am: General Session THE SWEEPING CMS PROPOSED RULE Presented by Nicholas Lynn J.D.,R.Ph. CMS new Rules of Participation are the most sweeping rule changes for long term care certification in more than twenty years, affecting abuse reporting, QAPI, care planning, ethics, staffing, discharge procedures, infection control, physician services and more. There were 10,000 comments filed in opposition to the rule but it is now in effect. This session will review these new regulations affecting every aspect of LTC operations. Nick Lynn R.Ph, J.D., Vice Chair of Duane Morris, LLP former IDPH division chief, and General Counsel to IHCA and INHAA. 11:30 pm 1:30 pm: Trade Show and Lunch with 75 Exhibitors 1:30 3:30 pm: Closing Session FORENSIC WOUND ASSESSMENT Presented by Daniel Sheridan One of the most important responsibilities of nursing home staff is protecting residents from abuse and neglect. When faced with an allegation of abuse, an immediate investigation must be started. Do providers have the knowledge to determine if bruises have been caused by abuse or are they the result of medications the resident is taking? What is their knowledge of defensive wound patterns? A forensic nurse expert will educate providers on what to look for when assessing residents for abuse; how to determine the nature and cause of injuries; and how to conduct a thorough investigation. CONTINUING EDUCATION The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation has approved INHAA as a sponsor of continuing education for Illinois Nursing Home Administrators (License # ) and Nurses (License # ). This conference offers Administrators and Nurses 6 CEUs on Thursday and 5 CEUs on Friday REGISTRATION FEES INHAA members and others from their staff pay the member fee of $125. Non-members pay $225. Registrations made after November 1 and at the door must include a late fee of $50 per person. Registrations can not be guaranteed without a payment. CANCELLATION POLICY A full credit voucher toward a future INHAA conference will be issued (upon written request to the Association Office) for cancellation for any reason 14 or more days prior to the conference (by October 25). For cancellations 13 or fewer days prior to the conference, a non-refundable fee of $25 will be assessed for each reservation and a credit voucher will be issued for the remaining balance.
