Here at Hospice at Home we understand the importance of creating a safe environment for you and your employees. All the courses in this brochure are fully certifi ed and successful delegates will receive a nationally recognised qualifi cation upon completion. These courses aim to provide affordable, accredited training for private, public and third sector organisations in Cumbria. If you or your employees choose to partake in any of the courses listed in this brochure a minimum of 60% of the course fee will be donated to Hospice at Home West Cumbria allowing you to receive the training you need while supporting your local hospice charity. Hospice at Home West Cumbria exists to ensure that the people of West Cumbria receive the best possible palliative and end of life care. It aims to be a hospice without walls providing all the services found in a traditional hospice building but delivering those services in people s homes and in community locations. 4 NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health The NEBOSH National General Certificate covers the main legal requirements for health and safety in the UK, identification and control of workplace hazards, and the practical application of this knowledge. Who should attend: Managers, supervisors and staff from all types of organisations who need a broad understanding of health and safety issues. Course Content - The NEBOSH National General Certificate covers the main legal requirements for health and safety in the UK, identification and control of workplace hazards, and the practical application of this knowledge. The syllabus is mapped to the National Occupational Standards for Health and Safety owned by ENTO. No previous health and safety knowledge is required but candidates should note the assessment includes a requirement to write a short report. 5 IOSH Managing Safely IOSH Managing Safely [4 days] course is designed for people in supervisory or management positions in all types of organisations, who need a broad understanding of health and safety at work. The aim is to give these managers a knowledge to help implement good practice for health and safety in the workplace. Who should attend: Any person who has any responsibility for supervising or managing people in the workplace or managers/mds of small enterprises. Course Content - The subjects for the IOSH Managing Safely course are: Reactive Monitoring / Display Screen Equipment / Risk Assessment / Noise Health and Safety Legislation / Chemical Safety / Electricity / Active Monitoring Work Equipment / Safety Management Systems / Housekeeping / Manual Handling There are two parts to the assessment for this course. The first part is a written question paper which covers the whole range of the course subjects and the second part is a written project which the delegate completes in their workplace. IOSH Certificate will be awarded to successful candidates. 6 IOSH Health & Safety for Supervisors IOSH Health and Safety for Supervisors [2 day] course is designed for people in supervisory, team leader, chargehand, leading hand, etc. positions in all types of organisations, who need an understanding of health and safety at work. The aim is to give these supervisors a knowledge to help implement good practice for health and safety in the workplace whilst supervising their team and ensuring that their workplace remains safe and their team members are not harmed. Who should attend: Any person who has any responsibility for supervising others in the workplace. Course Content - The subjects for the IOSH Health and Safety for Supervisors course are: Reactive Monitoring / Health and Safety Legislation / Hazard Identification / Risk Assessment / Active Monitoring / Designing for Safety / Human Behaviour / A focus on two specific areas of legisation The assessment for this course is in two parts. 7 IOSH Working Safely IOSH Working Safely [1 day] course is designed for all types of people in the full range of business organisations. The personnel to attend this course are process workers, office workers, support staff, administration staff and any employee in all types of organisations, who need a basic understanding of health and safety at work. Who should attend: Any person who works in any commercial workplace. The content of the course and the discussion of hazards apply to all workplaces. Course Content - The subjects for the IOSH Working Safely course are: Hazard, risk and risk control / Work equipment / Safety management systems Chemicals and substances / Display Screen Equipment / Vehicle Movement General housekeeping / Electrical Safety / Noise / Fire Prevention / Manual Handling The assessment for this course is in two parts. 8 Hospice at Home West Cumbria Hospice at Home West Cumbria exists to ensure that the people of West Cumbria receive the best possible palliative and end of life care. It aims to be a hospice without walls providing all the services found in a traditional hospice building but delivering those services in people s homes and in community locations. Services comprise home nursing, lymphoedema treatment and hospice family and bereavement support. Last year: HHWC nurses provided over 11,500 hours of day and night care to those in need. We were the sole provider of Lymphoedema care in West Cumbria. Our family and bereavement staff and volunteers provided over 2200 support sessions for people caring for someone with a life limiting illness. This support continues for as long as needed and can last several years. Hospice at Home West Cumbria must raise over 1 million each year to maintain and develop its services.
