2 Information on the Workplace Wellbeing Charter Background is a registered independent charity offering a wide range of safety, health and wellbeing related products and services either through funded programmes or commercial work. health@work was established in 1990 and is recognised both locally and nationally as being at the cutting edge of workplace health, working with over 200 organisations every year. Contents The Workplace Wellbeing Charter...page 3 Charter accreditation process...page 4 Charter support available...page 4 Costs for accreditation...page 5 Contact...page Page 2
3 The Workplace Wellbeing Charter is a national award endorsed by Public Health England and is an opportunity for employers to demonstrate their commitment to the health and well-being of their workforce, which provides benefits for both employers and employees. health@work played a key role in developing and recently updating the Charter and manage the National Charter programme including delivering training for assessors across the country, in partnership with Public Health England. We also deliver Wellbeing Charter programmes in Liverpool and Southampton supporting and accrediting over 175 businesses per year. The Workplace Wellbeing Charter provides organisations with an easy and clear guide on how to make workplaces a supportive and productive environment in which employees can flourish. The charter provides a benchmarking tool together with advice, guidance and resources to make improvements. There are eight key areas of the Charter which include: Leadership Absence Management Health and Safety Mental Health and Wellbeing Smoking Physical Activity Healthy Eating Alcohol and Substance Misuse Each area is assessed against a clear set of standards and awarded either a commitment, achievement or excellence level. Further information and a self assessment tool is available at Page 3
4 Accreditation Process The accreditation process for the Charter involves visiting the workplace to: Review the evidence portfolio. Conduct interviews or small focus groups with staff from different departments and job roles about their experience of health, safety and wellbeing. Tour the site to see further evidence of the implementation of health, safety and wellbeing activity. Document the evidence compiled against the standards of the Workplace Wellbeing Charter, record this appropriately. Following accreditation an organisation will receive: Post-assessment report Issue of certificate valid for two years Use of the Workplace Wellbeing Charter logo for two years Listing on the national website Support to work towards Charter accreditation will provide support for those organisations wishing to be accredited with the Workplace Wellbeing Charter Introductory meeting; self assessment and action planning. Detailed action plan based on existing provision and any gaps, to make it simple for an organisation to work towards accreditation. Electronic copies of any resources required including policy templates, health and wellbeing information sheets, signposting information etc. Meeting to review progress mid-way through the process Updated action plan to prepare the organisation for accreditation Remote support via phone and to answer questions, provide resources and review evidence throughout the process. In addition to the above are able to offer consultancy work on new and existing policies or procedures, a range of training sessions on mental health, diet and exercise, alcohol and absence management and an electronic staff survey platform focusing on health and wellbeing Page 4
5 Delivery and costs for accreditation Accreditation is fully funded in over 40 areas of the country, including Liverpool, through local authorities. To check your local area s provision please visit and search for a provider. In non-funded areas accreditation is subject to the nationally agreed price of 750 ex VAT. If additional days are required for accreditation due to visits to multiple sites or large numbers of staff interviews, each additional day is charged at 500 ex VAT. The length of time accreditation takes will be discussed before booking accreditation. This price includes all the elements detailed in the Accreditation Process on page 4 Costs for optional support to work towards accreditation Please contact funded providers in your local area, if applicable, to discuss the support on offer as part of your local funded programme. health@work offer the package of support on page 4 at no cost to businesses in Liverpool. In non-funded areas, the package of support detailed on page 4, not including optional consultancy and staff training sessions, is usually priced at 500 ex VAT This package and price is an example based on a day s work for a health@work Consultant and can be delivered face to face or remotely via phone and .
